Was just wondering if anybody heard anything regarding upcoming Forgotten Realms video games, other than Neverwinter Nights 2 and the rumour of a Baldur's Gate III.

I believe the focus will be on Eberron for a while; I'm afraid there won't be any new FR games in the near future.

funny we're got NWN2 and possiably BG3 coming out, I'd say FR will still be heavily focused computer games wise. the thing is ebberon just ain't as big a amrket. FR has a lot of NON-D&D fans.

True. Still, that is what WotC said somewhere.

The issue of PC gaming monthly that celebrated the 30th aniversary said that Baludur's Gate 3 will actually be some kind of prequel, having to do with the founding of Baldurs gate.
That's all I know, however.

I can't imagine that WotC would be working on more than one Eberron game at the moment, considering how much bigger the Forgotten Realms license is. That being said, I haven't heard of any other FR games besides the ones mentioned.

Hmm.. I haven't even looked into Eberron stuff before.. it took long enough to learn about Faerun lol
So what Eberron games are coming out then? Any developers made known yet?
And as for BG3, yea I also heard it may be a pre-Baldur's Gate 1 sort of game.. but of course thats all just a rumour, and there are tons of them over at the bioware forums if you are interested (under the baldur's gate 2 forum.)

Frankly, I'd just like to have another good CRPG, running on perhaps an advanced version of the Infinity Engine... boy those were good games.

2 Ebberon based games in production right now:
Dragon Shard, the DnD based RTS set in that setting
DnD online, the MMORPG also set there

They are making the first D&D MMORPG in Eberron?!?!?! Why in the blue hell wouldn't they make it in the Forgotten Realms? This is single handedly the biggest upset in computer game history...

It's a blessing that it's not going to take place in the Forgotten Realms. Imagine camping Elminster for his eversmoking pipe. It might be humorous at first, but when these poor people are sitting in front of their computers for the better part of a day waiting for the mob to pop it just becomes sad.

That can easily be solved by either not having "famous" NPCs, or having the game take place at a different time period.
It's not because of Drizzt or Alustriel or whoever that I think Forgotten Realms should be the place for the MMORPG, but because of the fact that people are familiar with the lands of Faerun through other games and the descriptions we read in books. Getting to see that entire world would be amazing.
If I wanted to explore some new world that I knew nothing about I'd play WoW or Everquest. Geez, ya think they'd take advantage of the popularity they already have in the Forgotten Realms franchise.

Although I've had dreams of this kind as well, it would take away a little bit of the shine of the FR, since, and even though visual aids are required at times, people's imaginations still contain the best FR pictures/places/scenery, IMO.

Yea that can be very true.
I just think that big video gaming projects for D&D should have Forgotten Realms leading the way. I don't want to see this "Eberron" become the new center of attention. I guess I'm just saying it would just be a shame if Forgotten Realms becomes forgotten- pun intended.

I am fairly sure that that particular project died with Interplay. It was codenamed "Jefferson" (with a possible real name of The Black Hound) and set in the Dalelands, and dealt with the events prior to the other games (though still involved perhaps with Bhaal, not the founding of Baldur's Gate).

I heard a rumour more recently that another company was to take up production of BG3, but I am sure of neither if that was true nor, if it is, it would be related in any way to the cancelled Black Isle/Interplay project Jefferson.

Yea, "that" BG3 from black isle was canned, but Atari said that they plan on making it some day still.
