| Diffan01-10-07, 09:55 PM | Ok, so my friends and I are trying this new concept we've been thinking about for a while. The premise is that we play ourselves as characters who are then teleported into the Realms via an actual spell book bought at a local pawn shop. The person buys the book because it looks cool and can add some flavor to role playing when the spell casters cast their spells. Hence, when the DM is using the book to cast a spell, one is actually released. The spell takes hold of the DM and bascially casts itself using him as it's focus. As the portal is opened up, we're sucked in and transported to Aber-Toril. I know this has probably been done millions of times before but the unique thing is that our characters are created with the help of everyone else in the party. We get a consensus as to what our race, class, and abilities are. From there we're allowed to build our character as we see fit. The question is where in Faerun are we teleported? Most of the people I game with don't know a WHOLE lot about forgotten Realms. A few of us have read the books, but the rest know only what video games have put out. I want to keep it some what basic for the first couple of adventures and need some input. Thanks! |
| MerrikCale01-10-07, 10:01 PM | wouldn't you all be humans? |
| GothicDan01-10-07, 10:07 PM | Waterdeep would be cool. Or Shadowdale. :) |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-11-07, 12:31 AM | Calimshan, exotic :) |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-11-07, 12:45 AM | Love laughter and adventure await you in the b-e-a-U-tiful city of splendors(Waterdeep) where the men are men and the women are women. A dang fine arrangement. Be sure to stop in at the Frosted Veil for a complimentary tankard of ale from the local provisioner Emmlak Adipocere...:pint: :tiphat: |
| ZolDarklock01-11-07, 01:33 AM | your party would be all humans, and they would wet there pants the first time they see even a kobold coming at them :D |
| theAlastorian01-11-07, 10:41 AM | You're talking about an Avatar game. They can be a whole lot of fun but beware the communal statting. It can get pretty ugly. As to where to end up, it all depends on how evil you want to be as DM. Do you want the slightest chance of doing anything at all? Or would it be more fun to put you and your firends in a horrible, deadly situation. If the former is your flavor, then anywhere on the Sword Coast is wonderful as there's no end of 'hives of scum and villainy'. If you're more sadistic :evillaugh then drop yourselves in a place like Thay or Icewind Dale. Either way, enjoy! Avatar games are great!:cheer: :ayyyy!: :cheer: |
| MerrikCale01-11-07, 01:07 PM | your party would be all humans, and they would wet there pants the first time they see even a kobold coming at them :D my 8th level ranger did that once. How embarassing |
| Diffan01-11-07, 01:57 PM | wouldn't you all be humans? Actually, out of the 7 of us, 4 are human. The other 3 express very strong characteristics of other races. One is a shield dwarf fighter, the other a half-elf rogue, and the last is a sun elf wizard. Of course we could all be human, but where's the fun in that? your party would be all humans, and they would wet there pants the first time they see even a kobold coming at them That is a good possibility. But keep in mind that it is a game, and as all of us being heros, might fight fear a little better than in real life. You're talking about an Avatar game. They can be a whole lot of fun but beware the communal statting. It can get pretty ugly. As to where to end up, it all depends on how evil you want to be as DM... The communal statting was done so that none of us get an oversized image of ones self. And we used 30 pts using the point buy system so that everything was fair. The great thing about this adventure is that it's everyone's idea. We, at one point or another, will all be DM'ing this campaign at some point. I'm just somewhat kicking it off and getting it started. Love laughter and adventure await you in the b-e-a-U-tiful city of splendors(Waterdeep) where the men are men and the women are women. A dang fine arrangement. Be sure to stop in at the Frosted Veil for a complimentary tankard of ale from the local provisioner Emmlak Adipocere... I was actually thinking that myself. I saw Waterdeep: City of Splendors source book at the mall the other day, but was hesitant to buy it. (My wife keeps me on a short leash when it comes to money) so I'll have to take it up with her, but very good decision. Thanks to all! :) |
| MerrikCale01-11-07, 04:35 PM | Actually, out of the 7 of us, 4 are human. the other three must be red sox fans. |
| Diffan01-12-07, 09:28 PM | ......i guess. I'm guessing you to be a Yankee fan? |
| theAlastorian01-13-07, 03:19 PM | The communal statting was done so that none of us get an oversized image of ones self. And we used 30 pts using the point buy system so that everything was fair. Awesome, the point buy system is a really good idea for that. I was just remembering a few horrible gaming sessions where we tried communal statting and it wasn't pretty. :hides: Glad it worked out for you. :cheer: |
| Diffan01-13-07, 04:38 PM | Thanks. We all figured that even though our actual stats would all be somwhere around 10 to 11, so called average, but who's actually average all across the scale? To do an 'avatar' campaign, if we all had basic stats, we'd probably all die in the 1st encounter with 2 Kobolds. |
| The ShapeLess One01-13-07, 04:46 PM | Waterdeep would be cool. Or Shadowdale. :) Dan is right Waterdeep would be the place to go. |
| Diffan01-14-07, 03:32 AM | Dan is right Waterdeep would be the place to go. Definitly. I just bought the Waterdeep source book. Hopefully we'll all come out alive in the 1st campaign. |
