Using Player's Guide to Faerūn in a 3.0 game [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-10-05, 10:57 AM I am a Dungeon Master starting a campaign in the Forgotten Realms using the 3.0 ruleset. If my group were to purchase Player's Guide to Faerūn, how much would it affect the campaign in the way of rules? For example, are certain prestige classes too powerful together with core classes from 3.0, and have the method of creating magic items changed to make the magic items in Player's Guide to Faerūn either worse or better?

By the way, I'm not going to upgrade the campaign to 3.5, regardless, so you don't need to suggest that.

04-10-05, 12:46 PM Playing a 3.0 game, only the timeline chapters will interest you.
This book actually brings FR up to 3.5, converting most stuff.
I don't see how it can be useful to a 3.0 game.

04-10-05, 02:10 PM Can use the new material as is for the most part, and anything that has been revised just use the old material, unless you like the revised material better.

04-11-05, 11:44 AM I would forget about all the added rules, feats, prestige classes, est. You can use all the planner maps and the time lines to keep the continuity of the realms, but thats about it.

Feats changed alot in 3.5 and like wise with Prestige classes. best examples would be power attack and spell power (archmage and Red Wizard).

Spells are the same way. Heal and Harm are totally diffrent.

I would just stick to any 3.0 material and keep it that way. I tried mixing the two systems back when 3.5 just came out and it was a dissaster. Mainly because nobody could agree on what the compleat rules were. Not to say anything bad about you group, but if you allow material from one 3.5 book why not material from other books? Just agree on rule set adn stick with it completly. It just becomes too complicated to worry about what rules to use, when a DM should be working on a good gamming experience for the players in story, plot, and encounters.
