| Dargoth07-22-03, 05:20 AM | I was just looking at magic items in the 3.5 SRD and noticed this. "Vicious: When a vicious weapon strikes an opponent, it creates a flash of disruptive energy that resonates between the opponent and the wielder. This energy deals an extra 2d6 points of damage to the opponent and 1d6 points of damage to the wielder. Only melee weapons can be vicious." is that really right? or should it be this "Vicious: When a vicious weapon strikes an opponent, it creates a flash of disruptive energy that resonates between the opponent and the wielder. This energy deals an extra 2d6 points of damage to the opponent and 1d6 points of HEALING to the wielder. Only melee weapons can be vicious." An item that hurts the wielder strikes me as abit silly... or its vicious meant to be a cursed weapon like a Backbiter? |

They call it vicious for a reason. |

"You want to do more damage to your foes? Fine! But this comes at a price. It is up to you if you want to pay it ..." = vicious |
| Dargoth07-22-03, 08:48 AM | Sounds like a weapon Clerics of Loviator would use |
| Tempus66507-22-03, 10:23 AM | Or Ilmater... |

| djinni07-22-03, 04:20 PM | I usually combine it with the Sadism/Masochism spells, and have a weapon with "Wrathful healing" or else just hand the weapon to a troll... |
| cwslyclgh07-22-03, 06:43 PM | it is in the 3.5 DMG too. (at least in the SRD for 3.5 so I assume its in the DMG). |
| Nei07-23-03, 07:43 AM | Originally posted by Dargoth but if thats the case the ability seems to be quite pointless, unless your going to make a cursed weapon You have to remember that it's only a +1 modifier, right on par with abilities such as 'flaming' and 'shock'. These abilities only do +1d6 damage, and a vicious weapon would therefore be overpowered if it simply dealt +2d6 damage. (Yes, I know 'flaming' and 'shock' deal energy damage, but I don't consider this on par with +1d6 extra damage, considering how many monsters have energy resistance.) The damage to the wielder is added in to balance it a bit against other +1 abilities. Nei |
