Was Daggerdale attacked, razed and/or occupied during the events of Shadowdale: The Scouring of the Land module?

Not that I know of, but if it helps, Daggerdale WAS in fact attacked by Vlaakith, githyanki Lich Queen, and her armies in Flamerule 1372 DR. Dagger Falls was brought under her control and Randal Morn was sent with hundreds to work the mines of Tethyamir. Castle Daggerdale was taken and occupied by one of Vlaakith's most ambitious captains, Skeelthraki.

Dagger Falls was soon infiltrated by a brave party of adventurers known as The Company of Grimstead:

Monstrous Allies (Most are direct allies of Kalex and his Spellswords, and through them The Company of Grimstead finds sound allies.)
-Pidderton: LG male silver dragon Wizard 12 (apprentice to Kalex)
-Frevenstronodom: LG female ancient silver dragon

-Garthrond Ironhelm: CG male cloud giant Fighter 6

Their actions led to the liberation of Dagger Falls and the location of Randal Morn. In Eleasias 1372, forces of Shadowdale, Cormyr, and elves of Cormanthor beseiged Castle Daggerdale and retook it, driving Vlaakith back to her home on the Astral Plane. Her forces scattered and destroyed in Faerun, she would later face an assault on her own capital city lead by The Company of Grimstead.

In my campaign, that is... ;)

I haven't read the adventure, but I seriously doubt it. If any Dale is prepared to resist or repel Zhents it is Daggerdale. Daggerdalesmen have learned to stash supplies, when to fight and when to hide, who's likely to inform, how to fight a military and magically superior enemy, and so forth. These are likely to be some of the most militant, untrusting, violent, and savvy dales folk around.

If it works in your game, have them strike at Dagger Dale because their ego/reputation is damaged, but it should be one heck of a bloody choice.

IIRC (it's been a while), we don't say one way or the other. The adventure is focused on Shadowdale, with brief discussions of ongoing events (off-stage) in Mistledale and Myth Drannor.

Given the way the plot was described I would assume that Daggerdale remains free.

I would explain to my players that:

In both invasions of Shadowdale (i.e. the first in Last Mythal, and the Second in Shadowdale:Scouring), Zhentish actions in Daggerdale were designed to pin down whatever troops Daggerdale could muster to aid Shadowdale but no more.

In the first invasion the Zhents goal was to hook up with the armies from Hillsfar and Sembia as quickly as possible. They probably knew that any of the three armies could be defeated by the elven army if they fought in pieces, but that once the army was together that they would outnumber the elves. After the elves were defeated Daggerdale would be isolated and quickly fold.

In the end the Zhents were right, they didn't manage to hook up with the other 3 armies and were defeated.

Scouring of the Land: My assumption is that both Shadowdale and Daggerdale are secondary targets to the elves in Myth Drannor. Probably the Zhents would not have even invaded Shadowdale had it not been for the promise of Sharran help. After that it was a cake walk to teach the pesky Shadowdales folk a final lesson. The Zhents don't invade Daggerdale here because the Sharrans don't offer it up on a silver platter, and they realize they need every soldier to beat the elves, and 3 if they beat the elves they will get Daggerdale anyways, and if they don't beat the elves they will not be able to hold Daggerdale no matter what.

So in both cases Zhent forces are to harry Daggerdale to prevent it from helping its enemies, but not strong enough to take over and occupy the Dale itself.

My actual problem with that scenario is this. Why are the Zhents not beheading every non banite cleric within walking distance and allowing them to survive?

If you look at the situation, realistically, the Zhents should WHACK every other person and put their heads on pikes, and then say "Who dares to speak out against us? We have killed your children, and now we will TAKE your women! Your marriages are annulled by the church of Bane. We will select soldiers to marry your women and your children will be raised according to OUR Religious dictates. If you want to live, you will not resist."

I'd have to Agree.
This sounds more like The Banite led Zhents.

For the Baneites and all conquerers humans are a vital resource to be exploited. Why kill them all, then they can't be forced to make a bunch of stuff for you like: weapons, saddles, etc...

Killing off the priests makes it harder to force the populace to do what you want.

Even the Romans didn't butcher and slaughter everyone unless they were really really ****** off, like in the 3rd Punic War. Frankly its bad for business.

Except that Dalesmen have a storied history of resistance, and after several failures with keeping the leaders alive...just kill them.

It's more efficient, and then you can give those lands to Zhentish soldiers.

And nothing beats the loyalty you get from giving people titles and new commands.

Yeah, but if you actually read the adventure its clear that while the Zhents would love to hold Shadowdale, their real target is Myth Drannor, since they can't hold the Dale unless they can beat the elves. At this point in the invasion their main purpose is to cut off the elves, and use the resources of Shadowdale to supply their army.

Thats not to say if they manage to win the war they won't just decide to depopulate it, although like I said its bad business. The smart way to conquer someone is to: 1, Kill the smallest number of people sufficient to keep the local population intimidated, and 2, When you make a deal with the locals stick with it if at all possible, putting down rebellions are expensive.

That way you minimize the number of troops you need for your occupation, and maximize your gains from your conquest. For more information c.f. the campaigns of Scipio Africanus in Spain, 2nd Punic War.

Not to mention its more fun to be tyrants over people that have rebelled against you before . . . its more fitting :D

I believe that back in the 1360's DR, Daggerdale was infested by Vampires and was turned into a frightful place to wander across.

The "infestation" only lasted a night, but it left a lasting scar on the once-welcoming people of Merrydale. You can read the full account of the bloody affair in the Realms anthology Realms of Valor. The story features Jander Sunstar, the elven vampire who starred in the first Ravenloft novel, Christie Golden's Vampire of the Mists.

IIRC, both GEV and Slander have the right of it. The story in Realms of Valor (which is wicked fun, thanks Elaine!) is about a small group of vampires attempting to infiltrate the Dale. There was, if memory serves a series of adventures in which the party is to aid a renegade Randal Morn retake his rightful throne... definitely 2E (Doom of Daggerdale and Return of Randal Morn spring to mind) but I think its from the Zhents... at least I think so.

As to the OP's question... definitively no. Daggerdale is never spoken of the book.

I found a reference on page 7, but it is a statement of intent, not success or failure. So, it doesn't really answer the OP's question.

Maybe they don't want to see their actions create a situation where multiple deities and faiths unite against them. Bane might be nasty, but his servants and worshippers are unlikely to be able to stand up against a coalition of faiths like Lathander, Tymora, Mystra, Chauntea, the Triad etc. all banded together.
