Waterdeep and the Wailing Years [Archive] - Wizards Community

Just read the the article on the wailing years, and it seems there are some issues for my favorite city.

without magic i.e. Halaster won't the monsters come to the surface? How will folks even get access to skull port? Do the gates remain open, or are they gone as well?

Undermountain is practically held together with magic, and the city is greatly protected by it. Will the Golem statues still function?

There are a lot of unanswered questions here. Even if I follow the "jump ten years into the future" advice of the article, what will the PCs be coming back to?

No one here can give you any definite answers at this time--all we can do right now is wait and see.

didn't Halaster blow himself up a couple of years before the spellplague?!

Yup... trying to prevent it, in fact.

It seems he was the only one who saw it coming. I suppose his past association with Shar had something to do with that.
