Waterdeep? when? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-15-04, 11:39 AM i'm really looking forward to the waterdeep scourcebook, does it come out this year or next?

what sort of information will be inside? undermountain? skullport, the masked lords, information on the watch?

I deserately need information on people and the surrounding areas of waterdeep, and ardeep forest! it got many druid circles, elven emcampments or communities, dwarves?

could someone tell me anything about the mountains north west of the city? does it have mines, different races, ruins?

is there really a street called **** street, my DM says there is?

08-15-04, 11:49 AM Not to late next year, and we really don't know what is in it. Your best bet is to get the 2e info for now....

Ardeep was written up in Dragon, but I forgot the issue number.

08-15-04, 07:34 PM All of Kuje's sources are great places to look for 2nd Ed information. There hasen't been a load of information for Waterdeep in 3rd ed, but theres enough information to get you a start. For cut and dry information theres the Realmswatch-Sneak Peak:Waterdeep (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20010516c). I also recall there being a PrC in Magic of Faerun called "Guildmage of Waterdeep". There is also of course the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. Also , various issues of Dragon Magazine contain snip-it's of information. There is also a novel in the Avatar series based in Waterdeep. Also, as a DM it's important to keep in mind that Waterdeep is a metropolis and almost anything you could want in a city is in Skullport or Waterdeep it self. The most helpful resource i have found however is the 2ed boxed set "City of Splendors"

I would third the recommendation of Volo's Guide, Waterdeep and the North, and the CoS box.

As well as John Scott's outstanding Virtual Fantasy Index (http://www.toril.info) (scroll down a bit for the Waterdeep sections). Not all WotC canon, but an invaluable resource nonetheless.

08-16-04, 05:53 AM thanks for your help, i will check out my local games retailer, they have some 2nd edtion books, i know for sure they have the two copies of the Ravensbluff scourcebook so i might get lucky.

the shop i visit also has Volo's guide to Baldurs gate but it ties in with the old Baldurs gate pc games, is this worth buying?

i am more into the story of the realms, feeling the flavour and reading the novels is what i enjoy, im not that stuck on books like complete this or that, are most of the old 2nd ed scourcebooks heavy on stories and information and thin on rules and stats?

I hope so.:)

Yeah, Omya, the 2e books are very much flavor text-oriented. That's part of the reason why they are so helpful to read through; they give you lots of story ideas and lots of lore, without all the number crunching. :)

1.Skullport book (2nd edition) very very good to know everything going on and organizations is skullport. Also includes maps for each level. Has 96 pages of info that is nowhere to be found for d20.

2.http://www.forgottenkingdoms.com/ gives very good maps and some locations in waterdeep.

3.http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=867 this may help also, dont own it myself so dont know if it is a waste of money.

08-16-04, 04:10 PM To return the compliment, AJA's Waterdeep work (http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/2566/waterdeep.htm) is in the front rank of unofficial Realmslore, more authentic than a good deal of official stuff. He's got the hang of synthesizing Faerūnian names as well as anyone who isn't Ed.

Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate II describes parts of Amn and Tethyr, not Baldur's Gate. TM4 The City of Waterdeep Trail Map is a big map of Faerūn with a small inset map of Waterdeep. Waterdeep's environs were first detailed in "Welcome to Waterdeep" (Dragon #128), but I forget how much of that material made it to other products.

08-17-04, 11:24 AM thankyou, you've been a tremendous help, im starting my very first game as the dm in a month (set in waterdeep) so all your links and help is cool, hopefully I can now do the city justice!

I cant get get my hands the 2nd ed waterdeep book though :(
maybe i'll try getting one online, im gonna keep hassling the local game shop owner until i get one.
