Ok lets think about this for a minute. I would love to see a game made to play as Drizzt from his training at Melee-Magthere to his current problems with Obould and his Orcs.
I personally would like to see it made along the same lines as the Final Fantasy games, for they always have a great story as well as graphics and gameplay. You could start of with one character(Drizzt) until you met others that could join you on your quests(Zaknafein, Belwar, Mooshie, Bruenor, Catti-brie, Wulfgar, Innovindil, Ivan, Pikel, and I guess maybe Regis) maybe have Guen as a special attack you gain at a certain point. Then there could be mid and end level bosses like Berginyon, Dantrag, His brothers and sisters, Zaknefein at differant times, random monsters, Artemis, Artemis, and Gerti, Obould, the four drow lurking in the shadows, and any others that I may of forgotten. So what does everyone else think about this idea?

I like it. Until it's made, you can play as Drizzt in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance I and II.

I'd rather not have a pure Drizzt video game. He gets too much air time as it is.

No. No. No. Simply put. No.

Sure, we can have a game that allows you to do something with Drizzt, like BG's PS2. But we can't have a game like that.

Having a game though that would involve a FR species we hardly see such as the Flying Elves. Or on a certain little island that isn't on a map due to it's so small but needs to save the land of Faerun. But it can't be a well known character.

Also, seeing a choice of Gods in the game would be good. Be it Mystra, Selune, Kelemvor, Shar, Elisstrae, etc.etc. They would be in the three basic groupds (Good, Neutral, Evil) to determine the out come of you're game. Something along that lines.

But NO pure drizzt game.

Mmm, Planescape: Torment.

Best game... Ever. Out of all computer games and all console games. Best RPG ever!

:cloud9: Although Baldur's Gate 2 offered some choice of deity, I agree that this would be a welcome thing in future games.

Thank you lol.

I think that would give a certain appeal to the game. Some people who are FR/DND don't play the games because they don't have their choice of alignment. Some of us might love to play Good or be Neutral and hack with Evil beside us. But if in Baldurs Gate, we really didn't have that choice.

They where all heroes, in which case you had to save Baldurs Gate. Now given let say Evil is chosen, you're the "hero" for the evil side of it, and you're goal is to destroy Baldurs Gate. This really wouldn't happen, BUT you could get to that point of the game where you're seeing the other side of the spectrem. Of course it would be likely playing Evil you'd fail at your attempt, but it would be nice to play all three sides of the triangle in a new game.

Thank you for reading Slime Lords two cents. :)

Technically you can choose your deity in Neverwinter Nights, but it really doesn't really affect anything. It's just a box you fill during character generation where you can write anything you want.

Oh, and you can play Drizzt in Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, but only in one level. (Wich happens to be the best level in the game, in my opinion. :D )

It could be great if made into a RPG. Start off with "Homeland" and continue on from there.
D&D needs a better reputation. Our gaming world could be SO much bigger if it wasnt so "unpopular" to play D&D. Video games such as this, and Authors like Salvatore, Cook, Baker, etc, and Movies like LoTR, Star Wars, etc are making gaming more acceptable. A lot more players want to play D&D, but are turned away cuz they dont want to be labeled as dorks, or Satanists.

I stuggled a lot growing up. Gaming has always been a passion of mine, but its not totally accepted. I think games like these would help increase our social status. Now i'm not saying we should be "preps" or win a popularity contest, just be accepted.

Sometimes certain mechanics or methods are employed purposefully to deter certain groups from entering into given circles.

And I don't know about you, but I would much rather have 3 "dorky" 2E players who believed in literature and mythology roleplaying in my game rather than 10 3E players who played video games instead of reading.

But that's a personal preference, obviously; it all depends on what game you want to play. And 3E is a totally different game than 2E, in terms of feel and mood. They're just targeting a new generation, a generation which I should chronologically belong to, but I don't. Ah, anachronism.

So, please, no more video games, and certainly nothing remotely similar to Final Fantasy (gag me). No cartoons. If someone is deterred from playing a game just because they are afraid of what society will call them, then I don't want to play with those people, who don't have enough sense of self to be truly competant gamers in the end.

There are TONS of great people who love fantasy, yet D&D has a bad name, so they wont play...this is the issue i'm talking about. I'd rather have a good rep, then turn away potential gamers due to our name.
Now, i want us "dorks" to play too...
Some ppl are afraid of what ppl think. Many are...I just really think we need to fix our Rep. But thats only my opinion.
GothicDan

11-17-04, 10:31 AM
I really haven't seen D&D having a bad 'rep' since the early 90s, myself. I don't see how making yet -another- video game would do much.

11-17-04, 10:57 AM
On the one hand, a hack & slash Drizzt game might sate some people's fantasies so they wouldn't have to play Drizzt clones in RPGs and go off on messageboards ad nauseam about what his stats should be. Or it might exacerbate that, and moreover it would increase the perception (shared, it seems, by Hollywood) that Drizzt and drow are what the Realms is about. Which would be bad.
GothicDan

11-17-04, 01:06 PM
While both of those outcomes are certainly possible, Faraer, judging by how the current generations - and those following - never seem to get enough of the hacking and the slashing and the bang-cool-lights-powers-battles, I think the latter is a far, far more likely a result. And that is certainly what I do NOT want in Forgotten Realms, though I must admit that 3E is more condusive to it, in terms of mechanics, to begin with. Any time something is "streamlined," it is far more open to abuse. At least in 2E you had to be pretty intelligent to abuse things.

Why would you want to kill Drizzt by putting him into another video game? Sure, everyone loves drizzt, drizzt is great, his books are great, etc etc etc... but you (and everyone who wants to see more and more Drizzt) are seriously killing him for the fans who aren't obsessed with him. Personally, I thought Demon Stone was a simple and depressingly short game that didn't do Faerun justice... but as far as the story and the character involvement went, it was perfect. You get to play as a group who's never been heard of before, in a completly unique adventure, and run into and help out (and even control) various fameous realms NPC's... Sure, why wouldn't you run into the Defenders of the Hall if you just happen to be right outside Mithril Hall's gates. But a game entirely devoted to the life of a character that we already know the outcome of? How would that be exciting and fun? When I play an RPG, I like to get into the story of my character as if it were me. It helps to give it a more real feel and lets me be supprised by what happens along the story. How can I be supprised if I know exactly what comes next, and I have to wait for a new book to play the sequal, just to have read the book first and AGAIN know exactly what will happen? To top it off, Drizzt (as said many many times before) is getting WAY too much air time. He's already advanced beyond Elminster for "Representative of the Forgotten Realms." You see either Salvatore or Drizzt logoed on almost everything new for FR because people can't get over him and move on to another story. You want to make an RPG based on realms chars? I say it won't work. If you really really wanna make it anyway, be creative with it. Do something like a story about the Rangers Three. If you've read the books, you'll know who they are, but it can be an adventure that takes place after the ToT, so no one knows what to expect, but still gets to play as the chars they fell in love with. Besides, knowing WotC, Ed probably won't get to write about them again for another 100 years. :)

I agree. If you're gonna make a Realms game with actual characters from the Realms, at least have the good taste to, as much as I think Drizzt is cool, isn't someone who they put into everything. Even playing as a Realms villain could be interesting, if not more so than Drizzt. It might even be worthwhile to play a FR game as Entreri. But if you see Drizzt, it should be meetiing him for a moment, not playing him.
It would be cool I think to play as an original Fireknives Assassin, someone made just for the game.

..How can I be supprised if I know exactly what comes next...

Do you read Shakespeare to find out what happens? No, cuz you already know what’s going to happen. This could also be a great way to "refresh" your memories of the important events surrounding Drizzt's life.

Those who aren’t drizzt fans, simply wouldn’t buy the game and I think it would gather a huge audience of new and old players. Drizzt is a likeable guy that we can all relate to. That’s what makes him so popular. It’s who we all want to be...(stereotype)

Personally I think a Drizzt game would rock but I'd like it to be something like Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone. In that you have a three person party fighting at the same time. You get to play as him in the game and man does he rock. The voice they gave him is pretty good as well. With that engine and the way the story is told I think it could be a really good game.

Still if a game were to be made, I'd like it if the characaters were new the way they were in Demon Stone. Having Drizzt show up in that part of the story made sense. Just have a elf with twin blades instead of having just Drizzt himself though. The engine is there. Haven't tried Dark Alliance 2. He was also in Dark Alliance 1 but his appearance in Demon Stone blows the one in DA1 away, in terms of look, voice, fighting, movement, etc. I'm glad I play that level anytime I want, easily the best level of the game so far. That's the one I just finished.

The fact that you even compared a reading of Shakespeare to playing a hack-and-slash video game is a bit sickening, really.

Just because WotC cares first and foremost about money does not mean that those of us who care about talented roleplayers being drawn into the fold have to care about that.

I think any game based off any FR NPC would not work if it just replayed/followed their life, at least not for those of us familiar with the Realms. It might be a good ploy to get those unfamiliar with FR to get into it, but IMO most of us that are already into it wont get anything extra out of it. Nevermind the fact that the game would HAVE to follow the already established lore or WotC would risk seriously irking their ‘old’ fans just to gain ‘new’ ones that might not stick with it, and seriously confuse a lot of people. If they did use Realms NPCs then it should just be a separate storyline not established in lore, like they do Star Trek games and the like.

Personally I’m not a big video game fan myself, (have had IWD II for 3 years now and I still haven’t finished it), nor am I a big drow fan, though I like Drizzt, so the idea of introducing FR to those that aren’t currently into it by using and already played, imitated, and overdone character through video games isn’t exactly an attractive premise to me. Like GothicDan I’d rather read than play arcade/video games, though I like 3.X over 2E, and enjoy roleplaying over rollplaying, but in the context of gaming we think alike. They’re already enough DD/drow fans/clones out there.

I'm referring to the amazing storyline...if you would read my posts rather then just simply skim over them you would understand, or you simply cant comprehend such issues. I can use "cat and the hat" if you'd like. You might understand that comparison better...

First of all, I did read your entire post. Second of all, "amazing" storyline is your own opinion, and one I might add that is not shared by the majority of people who read literature (since the majority of those people have never even read Salvatore in the first place, in general).

And we all know how much attention is actually paid to the storyline in the development of a game which will attract those players who like to kill things a whole bunch. And if you insult my intelligence or assume my actions again, I will report you. Thanks.

I would at least consider that perhaps you were able to comprehend things that I could not if you were at least cogent enough to use a semblance of correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and diction. Until you see it the proper time to actually make your posts sound like they are coming from an educated mind, nothing you say will be particularly effective.

This is not a slanderous comment, but rather a criticism of your poor attempts at debate; making biased statements about a topic and then being unable to back it up with evidence, followed by resorting to insulting someone's cognitive capabilities (using poor writing skills), does not make you stand out as a debater with which one would wish to discuss things.

Seriously though, flames break out way too often in these forums. Heck I'm probably younger than most people here and I'm mature enough to never insult anyone's intelligence. Please, for the sake of BigSis not cracking down on us, everyone be reasonable in what you say.

Thank you, I'm not used to "double checking" everything I post in the forums. I write things down quickly and passionately, forgetting all rules since this is unofficial. But, I can see that many people take spelling and grammar into consideration.
I do applaud you for you taking my "slam" and twisting it back around on me. It worked very well, and I’ll leave you with the last words on that issue.

We want Drizzt the video game

I want all this Drizzt Following, Drizzt Movie, Drizzt book series, Drizzt Source book, Drizzt toothbrush, Drizzt Videogame crap to end. He's an NPC, and he's not supposed to be worshipped like a god. Yes, i will admit, Drizzt is a very cool NPC, but it's all taken far to far.

Personally, I find the concept of a Drizzt game similar to the newest incarnation of the Prince of Persia series to be very intriguing. Just my 2 cp.
