I am sure this has been asked hundreds of times, but I can't find anything on this.

How does the duration a 1 week convert to Tendays in the Forgotten Realms?

Basically, some abilities that recharge after a week, like the Paladin's Remove Disease ability.

And time for Crafting. It says a Craft check represents a week.

Should these just be changed to a Tenday, or say that after 7 days the ability recharges or you can make the check again. Or is this basically up to the DM.

Well, in Forgotten Realms week last ten days and not seven days like in our world. So in effect a Tenday is a Week, which mean that any ability used only once in a week can be used once in a Tenday in FR.

The evidence of that conversion is in Faiths and Pantheons where they changed deities senses from one week per divine rank to one tenday per divine rank.

Ok thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Very odd that WOTC decided to change that because on page 291 of the FRCS, it says use 7 days instead of 10. Of course, this makes no sense but that's what the game designers decided.

You know I remember reading that in the book once before, but I couldn't find it again. Now I know where to find that.

I think that's messed up. That's a small erosion of power for those that have abilities that can be used once a week... small, but still taking it away. Why should someone have to wait an additional 3 days to use an ability just because the calendar is ordered differently? Are the abilities calendar-dependant? I doubt it.

If this went the other way, and a campaign setting was developed with a 5 day "week," the official ruling would likely be to stick to every 7 days for uses of such powers to maintain their balance in the big picture.

I was wondering what these days are called/named, in Greyhawk they are:
Starday - Work
Sunday - Work
Moonday - Work
Godsday - Worship
Waterday - Work
Earthday - Work
Freeday - Rest

But I have no idea what to call it in fr, any suggestions/canon for this?

-Weird, but in the FRCS, I can't find anything about names of the days. The section about the Calendar of Harptos discusses months and events, but not simple days...

They aren't universally named -- see the REALMS-L FAQ (http://www.candlekeep.com/fr_faq.htm#_Toc16090589).

I have ran a campaign where there were only 6 days in a week. A small difference and I kept the per week based off the in game weeks for simplicity of record keeping. I find a small shift in time on the per week, per month, per year is fairly negligble but understandable that others may feel it. Generally speaking I would favor in terms of upping the power a bit instead of eroding however in terms of such things. A difference of time on such scales rarely has impact when comparing npcs/monsters to pcs in terms of balance. The issue becomes in reference to PCs to others in terms of the PCs frequency of abilities.

For FR I have just been running it tenday for weekly abilities since it makes most IC sense and is simple for record keeping. But for others I can definitley see chaning it the other way and would be willing to do so if it seemed to affect a player to a noticable degree. My suggestion would be to make them 1/5days instead of just twice per tenday, or maybe even 2/tenday but max 1/day. If it is 2/tenday with no restriction then those abilities could be used twice in the same combat encounter which DOES have a noticable impact on game balance and power.

My opinions and experience:)

I don't think it's messed up. Why should you use the 7 day week of Earth when FR has a 10 day week. But that's me and I know when I play, and DM, in FR the 1/week abilities are set to be used once a tenday not once a Earth week.

Why can paladins from Oerth use Cure Disease once every 7 days and paladins from Toril use the same ability once every 10 days?

I mean, why bind it to the week/tenday thing at all? Just keep "weekly" abilities to 7 days. I fail to see the significance in assigning such abilities to the world-specific grouping of days into specific numberings.

But 7 days is 7 days... and that 7 days happens to be how people in reality measure a week shouldn't influence one way or another time measured in the game. So changing an ability's usage from 7 days to 10 days just because the campaign's standard measurement is in tendays is an erosion of power --even if small.

Likewise, I wouldn't be for the increasing of the usage of such abilities to twice per tenday to make up for losing 3 days by converting weeks to tendays.

The Paladin ability says 1/week. A week is dependent on the world. Plus, it is granted by the Paladin's God. Gods in differents worlds probably see it differently.

I agree with old sparky, weeks and months are just a cultural concepts, in nature they do not exist, and cuz abilities are not cultural but part of the nature of the character i think that creators mean 7 days when they say week.

I don't agree, as I said since a week in FR is 10 days and not 7. Why use a "Earth" standard in FR, that's idiotic but that is what the game designers decided, even though it makes no sense.

Most references we have make it pretty clear the the "Tenday" is the Realmsian interpretation of a standard Torilian week.

And I'd agree also with what Kuje said earlier about character abilities that are tied to weeks... in that, I prefer in my campaigns set in FR for the /week to mean 10 days, rather than 7.

Personally I dont think players should be punished for playing in the Forgotten Realms, just because the campaign setting doesnt use a lunar calendar...If and when it would otherwise be detrimental to the player (or perhaps the NPC at hand), I would allow those abilities to re-charge or be timed on a 7 day basis.

<snip> just because the campaign setting doesnt use a lunar calendar...<snip>
What does a lunar calendar have to do with it?
In fact, the Realms calnder months are closer to the cycle of Selune then our calendar (assumeing the gregorian calender used by most people) relates to the moon.

How would it be detrimental to a player if everyone use tenday as a natural measurement of time???

In fact, since all the FR material use Tendays [all the prestige class powers are usable either a certain number of times in a day or in a tenday], and since you will not find use of a word week anywhere in published FR material [other than note in FRCS stating that FR week last ten days and is called tenday], allowing paladin powers to recharge every 7 days would be overpowering them. So you unless you change all reference from tenday to a week [which would ruin FR feel of your game], you'll end up with very unbalanced game where core classes (and prestige classes) are greatly overpowered.

I see it as a local flavor thing - there's no reason why abilities have to work the same in each crystal sphere. It does alter game balance slightly, but it can go either way - in my campaign, a character was able to be reincarnated after 8 days because the time limit was "one week".
