Otherwise, in one fell swoop He ruined one of the Realms coolest villians! And if Manshoon does turn to Shar... *shudder*. Do you think he is such a great loss as I do? Do you like the story? Every one of his Spin a Yarn's have always been started by the audiance at Gencon shouting out elements THEY want in the story and he just makes it up with what they requested. Off hand from glancing at part one some of the elements had to be the Seven Sisters, Volo, Manshoon, the Tarrasque.....
Wooly Rupert 01-10-04, 07:41 PM	If it was canon, I'd say it was just one clone, and that the rest were fine. However, Kuje31 has proven knowledgable in the past, so I'll trust him when he says that the Spin A Yarn stuff isn't canon -- and honestly, it makes sense to have it be not canon, considering how it was created. Besides, I'm no fan of Mr. Greenwood's fiction, so I'd be disinclined to consider it canon for that reason, too.

I want to know whether this was canon or not- if I don't like, canon or not, it is not in my game. But Manshoon is a villian that can be used in canon FR to spice things, and wasting him is dreadful. Anvil 01-12-04, 06:24 PM	Savras, I met Ed Greenwood at Pentacon (Fort Wayne, Indiana) this fall and asked him about the Spin A Yarn panels. He said the stories can't be canon because the audience suggestions have got more and more ridiculous. The panels are a SCREAM to attend, though they can get a bit X-rated (because of the audience more than EG himself). He said that this year's story was very long because he got every last audience suggestion into it. He also said that both Volo or Manshoon in lingerie were specifically part of it, also the paladin with the sword and the feast and all the monsters he included (I missed about half of the GenCon panel this year and forgot some of the things listed because I didn't make notes until after I'd got back to my hotel room) were audience suggestions. He said that HIS favorite part of the story was the chance to have the Seven Sisters "talking chippily to each other." The story seems fun to me. So one of Manshoon's clones gets chopped. At other GenCon panels this year, some WotC people said we can't ven be sure that there are only 3 surviving clones. So, if you hate the story, make this hidden clone Number 4, or 6.

I went to Gencon 2003 and attended this "spin a yarn" : Ed can be the most X-rated out of the bunch. :D Well, maybe not X-rated, but the words "randy" and "ribald" come to mind... :) The poor lady who attended the seminar with him (his editor?) has turning redder than a Ripe Georgia Peach. She had some good one-liners of her own, however. :) Actually, Ed left out one suggestion (likely because he didn't catch it)... a friend of mine suggested the Paladin who thought he was a brother of the Seven Sisters, was gender-confused and was really a woman trapped in a man's body. :embarrass But it was convoluted enough without it. Bravo for Ed to making it fit together, though!

As I stated in another thread, with as randy as his characters are, it's a wonder the Realms aren't more heavily populated! ;)

Capn Charlie 02-05-04, 01:29 AM	As to it's canon status: Yes. I think it is 100%. This is meant to be directly inserted into your game and you are a fool if you don't. However. It is just a bawdy book printed by a less than reputable small press operator in waterdeep. Whether the outlandish events are true or not...Well, that is up to you.
