So now i dont like buying adventurs i see that as a wast of money and it shows no thought in your campain so no but i have read through a few of them and i see well they are set up in a site-based along with event-based format, now i see this set up is good i mean you set up a few areas for some exploring and you put a story line in the areas and after all the areas are done it moves on to an other set to push the story alongg now i think i might start puting my campain in this format seeing it can be a little more organized and stuff but i want to see what anyone else has to say about this and maybe say what they do to set up a campain. |

Flesh out the area and the plot. Now go ahead and start doing some surrounding areas to provide flavor, side adventures and encounters, even some completely different campaign starts to give the PCs options. Give the PCs enough options so that they don't feel railroaded. If you have a good vs evil campaign, and the PCs are out to destroy the BBEG, that's all well and good. But there are other adventures out there and certainly more than one evil group. Let them have the option of facing more than the BBEG (if they can) so that they don't feel like they HAVE to do everything in order or whatever. It can be very frustrating as a player to feel like you have no say in what you do. On the other hand, if you give them NO direction, then they feel like there isn't anything epic to do, no difference they can make and the like. It's a fine line. I had a group that was just in a fun campaign trying to solve lots of riddles to get into a tower where they assumed there was a lot of treasure. Through lots of side quests and the like, they faced many baddies and they had fun. But halfway through solving all their riddles, they stopped trying as the baddies they were fighting would occasionally reappear (if they weren't killed) and they decided to just go off and pretty much wage war on the Temple of Talona (the baddies du jour, which were supposed to be a minor player). They had fun, and while I did have to make a few more adventures based around that, it was a good time for all. Be flexible. Provide the site and event based encounters by all means. But be prepared for them to do something you may not expect. And don't stop them if they want to try something. |
