What happened to to The Tarassque in the Realms. I know there is one, because the Karsus' Avatar spell required the epidermis from the Tarassque. So, what is this thing up to, and where is it? I know it is most likely sleeping, but where?

Are you the DM of your group? Because if you are, make up a story.... it's really not that hard (making it up, not killing it)

Hell, if you wanted make 5, too....

Admit it guys, you've all taken on and killed the one
Tarrasque.

Anyway, if you want some ideas, like Gotrex said, its hiding in the mountains snoozing like a baby.

I don't recall where I read the plot for this but a very powerful wizard in an effort to create a phylactery for lichdom soul trapped the tarrasque in a gem. Now the tarrasque resides inside this lich's phylactery.

This mighty wizard tricked the tarrasque into devouring whole a trigger for a trap the soul spell, sealing the great beast inside a small gem, The necromancer then transformed himself into a lich, using the gem that holds the tarrasqueas a phylactery. Now, all who oppose the lich's evil schemes are faced with a most unusual quandry. If they do not destroy the lich's phylactery , the lich is restored whenever he is slain - but, if they do destroy the phylactery they unleash the tarrasque upon the land once more.

Whew, found it. Talk about nasty.

This is the truth as to what happened to the Tarrasque...a party of adventurers killed it...on every plane...in every land...on every corresponding dimension...within every second...for all time. It truly is the adventurer's link, like the orc and the chest in 10 ft. x 10 ft. room. Nearly everyone has killed the tarrasque and if you haven't don't worry, you will, YOU WILL!

well, if you havent and dont plan on it..... i have a good lot of respect for you. Just about every DnD group on the planet has done so and plans on doing it again..... the only reason i did, because my players threatened to dethrone me and replace me with a low-grade newbie......

Any way, dont give in to the temptation, you'll be a better man.;)

:-)

We also killed Tiamat and Lolth

Plus lots of orcs that campaign

Thank you, I guess.

It's just something we've never been that into. Of course, I've never had or DM'd a group that made it over 15th level either. Our campaigns usual end in massive TPK's.

AHHHH!

Why can't I get a straight answer! You say you killed it...you say that you killed it. She said that she killed it, and so did he...and then, it is sleeping in the mountains, and/or trapped in a gem with a Lich's Life-essence....

STOP CONFUSING ME!!!!
AHHHHHHH!!!

The answer you want is in your mind, mate.

Make up a story for it, that's what DnD is for.

I want what happened to the legendary monster on Faerun, according to what TSR/WOTC has published. Although it's nice that all of you killed it, on each and every single plane, I don't really care. I am a Realms junkie, and to more specific, a Netheril junkie. Since the Karsus' Avatar spell required skin from the monster, I wanted to know what was up with it in the official TSR?WOTC world...

I know for a fact, in one of the El's Ecology sourcebooks (Probably for the Stormhorns) it is listed on the Random Encounter table. It also attacked the Herald's Holdfast (I believe this is what it was) in the North at one point also.
bat141

as a random encounter. that's enough to make a man stop adventuring.

09-04-03, 01:01 AM
First off my group never has and has never planned on fighting the Tarassque.

Secondly according to Dragon Magazine #288 the Tarassque was trapped within a liches Phylactery. That's the only official word I've heard (and it's not realms specific). I believe that the Faerunian Tarassque is probably sleeping in some hidden and infrequently traveled place. Otherwise there would have been more widespread information on it.
Kuje31

09-04-03, 01:33 AM
Remember also there is a world in the Spelljammer sourcebooks where Tarrasques (notice more then one here) are raised. But yes for a fact it has attacked the Herald's Holdfast. And it is listed as a random encounter in the Stormhorns El's Ecology sourcebook.

The Tarasque was converted by Saint Martha, and, once tamed as a lamb, was killed by vengeful villagers that hurled stones and spears at her (the Tarasque is a she). Then they skinned her, cured her hide, and celebrated, making a procession inside her skin, like in those Chinese dragon marchs.

How, you're talking about the Tarrasque, maybe? She's been gated to the Abyss, where food is plentiful and she can enjoy her immunity.

And that isn't even official. The article was giving several examples of different types of monsters working together to challenge players. As a CR 22 encounter the diddy about the lich and the tarrasque was given...merely as an example or an encounter idea. Not even close to being an official source of current whereabouts of a particluar being or creature. And since there is no "OFFICIAL" statement of the location of the Tarrasque or even of its existence in Faerun, I offered that example as a possible idea.

If the Spell Karsus' Avatar needed Tarrasque parts and the spell was cast succesfully then we do actually have official proof that the Tarrasque does indeed exist in the Realms.

It did attack the Heralds Holdfast but was driven off and is supposedly lairing beneath the Dalelands somewhere sleeping

I'm not 100% sure, but you might try hunting down a copy of the Ad&d module, 'The Mines of Bloodstone.' If I recall, there is an encounter where you find the Tarrasque sleeping deep within the mountain passes of Vaasa.

I'm not sure what the Dale Reckoning is on that module, but it might be something to look into.

Good Luck...

I feel left out..

I've never had a cheesy enough character in a cheesy enough party to actually take on the Tarassque....

Nor...has anyone I've known..

In one campaign they dimension doored it or somehow got it to another realm (Ravenloft) but no one has actually -fought- it....

Don't believe I'd WANT to.
