| Shike10-31-05, 07:35 PM | I need advice on what I should buy for the Realms. I already have, FRCS, PGF, MoF, F&P, RoF. What I'm really asking is which of the supplements I should guet, other than what I have. I'm currently running a game w/my wife (will add players in future) that is set mostly in the sword coast, but could potentially cover all of Faerun. She is currently in Amn (started in Tethyr) but is heading towards Baldur's Gate and possibly Waterdeep, though she may not stay there. I am on a tight budget, so a good ranking, i guess, is in order. Thanks :help: |
| Palpster10-31-05, 07:49 PM | You don't really *have* to buy anything beyond what you have already. It all depends on two things really; what would you like to add and how much do you wish to spend on supplements? |

You do have the basics, the 'essentials' for the most part. Given now you can go into things like Book of Vile Deads, Champions of Valor, etc. |
| Shike10-31-05, 08:11 PM | Why are you sorry. We hardly get to spend time together w/ and infant son and not really being able to afford babysitting, we have to work opposite shifts (one of us works every day of the week). When we do have time together, she thought that it would be go to roleplay. She is definately interested and wants to learn the mechanics in a setting where she can ask as many questions as she needs to w/o feeling behind. Since I usually play with a group of gammers who learn systems fast and completely it is sometimes daunting to my wife. After a little while we are planning on inviting a select few people to enter the game, people we both feel comfortable with, as it is my first time DMing. All that being said, I am extatic that she wants to roleplay. :dancin: Anyway, I like to do as much research as I can, and also, have some trouble coming up with adventure Ideas. We're currently running a module, but I don't know exactally what's going to happen after that. That is why more information can be helpful. Cheers :pint: |

You can come up a with a million ideas. Like my self. I came up with the idea of using a spell against a demon. This spell traps a soul (demon in this case, which is the emobdiment of a soul) for a year in a diamond, costs a few things, etc. More or less, after a year the soul has looked back on it's life and stands a fair chance of turning to some level of good. In my case, my Follower of Lathander has done this on his behalf. Consider it a rebirth if you will ;) |

Then I definitely recommend you also consult the free 2e FR products here at WotC. See here:- http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads Pay particular attention to those PDFs covering the regions of the North -- they'll help with your Sword Coast-based campaign. Additionally, LANDS OF INTRIGUE is good for those Amn and Tethyr sojourns. |
| Shike10-31-05, 08:19 PM | I know I can come up w/ something. Like i said earlier, this is my first time DMing and still feel a little overwhelmed, but fully enjoying the experience. |
| Shike10-31-05, 08:26 PM | Thanx sage. I've actually already done that, it's just reading these things on the computer gets tiring (especially after a day of staring at computer screens. I'm a Librarian:) ) Cheers :pint: |

Of particular value are the Faiths & Avatars and Powers & Pantheons tomes. And, as an added 3e... and with you're mention of Waterdeep, I would suggest the recently release City of Splendors: Waterdeep sourcebook by Eric L Boyd. |
| Shike10-31-05, 09:44 PM | Actually, I was thinking about the waterdeep book. A related question: Is there any information on Baldur's Gate? |
| Old Sage10-31-05, 10:29 PM | The 2e Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast has an entire section on Baldur's Gate -- complete with map. ;) |
| dragonfriend11-01-05, 02:30 AM | Actually, I was thinking about the waterdeep book. A related question: Is there any information on Baldur's Gate? yes, buy the waterdeep book...really a lot of game ideas and a wonderful setting |
| gratzu11-06-05, 01:55 PM | I really love Lords of Darkness. It give you a great overview of most of the evil organizations in the realms, including suggestions on how to use them and even specific examples (Maps and stuff). It's a little pricey, ($30 for a 191 a soft cover book) but it's worth it in my opinion. It has saved me a lot of work and really increased my understanding of what bad guys are like in the Realms. Next time you're in the store, check it out and see if it might help you out. -Trish |
| Kuje3111-06-05, 02:03 PM | Actually, I was thinking about the waterdeep book. A related question: Is there any information on Baldur's Gate? For Baldur's Gate there's the 1e and 2e campaign box sets. FR Adventures. Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast. Gold & Glory for the Flaming Fist. Baldur's Gate also has a settlement, through the Flaming Fist, on Maztica. Plus other various lore that Ed has given us in my 04 and 05 files but since BG is still NDA because of the computer games, he hasn't been able to say much. |

I read through the sections on Drow and the Shades, and I thought those alone made it worth buying. I recommend this one too. |
| Majorafire7711-06-05, 08:58 PM | When you think about it $30 for a 191-pager is better than the 160-pagers that WotC is putting out now for $30. Of course, they're hardcover, but I'd rather have 31 more pages than a hard back. |
