I have the Dark Elf Trilogy but I'm saving that for a vacation read. I'm dying to find out what happens to Obould and his crew. Thanks in advance! Or try a different author. Elaine Cunningham's Songs and Sword series is good. The recent Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy was good. Paul Kemp's Cale trilogy is excellent. As is the Cleric Quintet

Questing GM 07-09-07, 12:30 PM	I believe there was a mention of another trilogy that it set to continue after the Hunter's Blade. The first book is due to be released in September (i think) and is entitled The Orc King (fittingly) :D
Zevox 07-09-07, 07:41 PM	Thus far, no novels detailing events about Obould and his Kingdom or Drizzt and his friends after the events of the Hunter's Blades Trilogy have been written. No doubt they will in the future, but if those were your first FR books, you basically started at the present end of Drizzt's tale. The Novels detailing Drizzt's adventures in chronological order would be: The Dark Elf Trilogy (Homeland, Exile, Sojourn). The Icewind Dale Trilogy (The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, The Halfling's Gem). The Legacy of the Drow Series (The Legacy, Starless Night, Siege of Darkness, Passage to Dawn) Paths of Darkness Series (The Silent Blade, The Spine of the World, Servant of the Shard, Sea of Swords) The Hunter's Blades Trilogy (The Thousand Orcs, The Lone Drow, The Two Swords) A bit of a spin-off of Drizzt's stories is the Sellswords Series, consisting of Servant of the Shard (yes, this is both book 3 of the Paths of Darkness series and book 1 of the Sellswords Series), Promise of the Witch King, and Road of the Patriarch. Those star two characters from Drizzt's previous adventures, his one-time rival Artemis Entreri and the Drow mercenary Jarlaxle. Other RA Salvatore novels are the Cleric Quintet, consisting of the novels Canticle, In Syvlan Shadows, Night Masks, The Fallen Fortress, and The Chaos Curse. They star Cadderly Bonaduce, a priest of Deneir, and his friends. Drizzt and company meet them in some of their novels, and you'll recognize two of his friends, the Dwarves Ivan and Pikel, from the Hunter's Blades Trilogy. Theres plenty of other good FR novels out there well worth reading, so I'll just add my personal favorites from here rather than list a ton more. Those would be Paul S. Kemp's works, which center around Erevis Cale, who is (among many other things) a priest of Mask the Shadowlord. Those, in order, would be: Resurrection (Short story from the book Halls of Stormweather) Shadow's Witness (novel from the Sembia series) The Erevis Cale Trilogy (Twilight Falling, Dawn of Night, Midnight's Mask) The Twilight War Trilogy (Shadowbred, Shadowstorm, Shadow Realm, the latter two are still being written) (Also relevant to the tale is the short story Soulbound, found in the Realms of Dragons anthology, though it doesn't actually star Cale and crew like the rest do.) MisterWhodat 07-10-07, 02:59 PM	Do yourself a favor and read The Dark Elf Trilogy. Paul S. Kemp has written IMHO some books that are as good as if not better than some of the Drizzt stuff, the Cale books are great reads. The new Drizzt series starts this year, Orc King comes out in October I believe, with Pirate King and Ghost king coming out in 2008, 2009. If you just want some all over the Realms reads look for all the "Harper" books. Tons of stuff hard to figure out where to start.

The "Orc King" (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/ce/The_Orc_King.jpg) starts exactly where the "Two Swords" ended and it's due out this October. The fans predict that a mayhem will ensue the pubblication of the book. Amazon is taking pre-orders.

TB 07-14-07, 03:49 PM	I've read just about everything from RA Salvatore, and I think he is a GREAT author. I want more.... I read the Everis Cale trilogy from Kemp and it was also entertaining. Not sure if it was AS GOOD as anything from salvatore, but it's a decent read. I am currently reading Ed Greenwood's stuff. He is a good author and the whole Elminster series is decent. Elminster in Hell was NOT a favorite, but it was readable. The Shandril series is good too. Other authors that are not in FR that I liked were Mercedes Lacky (long list of books that are all pretty good), Terry Brooks (the whole shannara series), david weber (bahzel trilogy), and Robin Hobb (i really wanted more from her, the stories were good but somehow not everything really gets tied up.) In addition, if you haven't read some classics, like: of mice and men, animal farm, adventure of tom sawyer, and huckleberry fin. These were all books I just couldn't put down. I would also suggest Harry Potter - although I'm sure to get a lot of hateful comments from that, but it IS a decent series. And for a younger reader, or someone who is a slow reader it's a good start. And with the 7th book coming out in a few days it won't be hard to read the entire series all in one stretch.

Oh, I'd definitely say that Mr. Kemp's novels are better than RA Salvatore's personally. RAS is good and all - he was the one that got me interested in the Realms and D&D to begin with - but Paul's stories suck me in more than any books I've read (including Tolkien, who was my favorite author before I started reading Mr. Kemp's works). I've read it, and it took me quite a while to finish it. I just didn't want to pick it up. It really let me down for having that "classic" title. As far as the RA Salvatore vs. Kemp... I am a Salvatore fan. His books got me into FR setting, and kept me there. I read a few things from kemp and it was good, and even better than some of the books from salvatore. But I enjoyed more of Salvatores books than I did Kemps. Especially the Sellsword series.

Also The Orc King (October 2007), The Pirate King (October 2008), The Ghost King (October 2009) continue the story once more with Drizzt and co, the write up of which for the first can be found on almost any book site selling new novels.
