| Shyhawk08-31-03, 09:31 AM | |
| knightserpent08-31-03, 10:44 AM | That would be the one where I was a 1st level Elven Wizard with a 8 on con which gave me 3HP to start with. I was killed by an orc's arrow. |
| Herr Doktor08-31-03, 11:23 AM | I suppose the first would be after I saw the Ruins of Undermountain II boxed set at Alcove Hobby shop many years ago. I had no idea what I was doing really, but the intro by Elminster in that book, I think, is what drew my interest toward the realms. Since then I've run all of my campaigns in the realms (excepting a short Darksun campaing and a short Ravenloft campaign that took the PCs out of the realms and into the demi-plane of dread). Somehow the entire boxed set disentigrated away and I now own not a single piece of it. I had the trap cards and dungeon illusions the longest, then one day they all vanished as well. It's a sad story, really. |
| gadreel09-01-03, 07:07 PM | Itīs been a long time since I started Gming FR. Actually I started GMing with FR. First there have been some loose adventures including the Four of Cormyr Series, but actually it first got really intersting with Desert of Desolation. Iīve been forming a metaplot for many years and sowed the roots through many adventures, but finally a player started everything. We had a halfling that had lost his soul through the deck of many things, and of course he wanted to get it back. To this date Azoun had already been dead and some fiends asked the halfling to find his secret grave. Last but not least the halfling found the grave, the fiends animated Azoun as one of their slaves and civil war raged on in Cormyr. This deed had been the last part of a prophecy that allowed the baatezu to enter the realms in order to gain a new stratigic battlefield for the blood war. The only hope would be an artifact, gain through gaining nine pieces (also artifacts), which would form the sword of devilbane that could drive the fiends from Toril. I decided for this option to connect some adventures I always wanted to run and I started with Desert of Desolation. The point is, I didīnt just want to run these adventures, but give them my personal note, so the plot demanded, that every adventure had one antagonist who with superior power (not only by force, but also be psychological attacks) would try to prevent the gain of the artifact. One antagonist for each of the Nine Lords of Baator. Through the flow of time the players should get rid of one antagonist through the flow of one adventure. Actually with Desert of Desolation everything went quite good, the players were in great fear of Gadreelīs son (half Cornugon and half Aasimon), when they finally found a way to defeat him, and we had a good time. But in the end with the Rod of Seven Parts, the metaplot came to a quick end. Something happend that can allway happen. The heroes died. And now 5 years later (still gaming with the same players once a week) they still ask me to end that metaplot. P.S.: Soryy for my bad english :-) |
| Cunning Linguist09-01-03, 07:39 PM | Ah, I remember my first campaign.. I was 13, I had got the 2.ed CS, and we played the Twisted Tower adventure in the box set.. I had no idea what I was doing at the time.. and no monsters manual to bost. |
| Morka09-03-03, 02:10 PM | Baldur Gate, of course! (I don't think I need to explain the history here...) My first contact with Faerun, and then I made many searchs on internet. The first character which I ended the game was Dillion, a Ranger (I should have play a fighter) in full plate mail, using a sword and large shield. Not the typical ranger! |
| Thule22209-03-03, 05:48 PM | Boy that was a long time ago. A friend wanted to try dming and bought the boxed set. The problem was, he was afraid of combat and wouldn't run any, so nothing ever happened. He teleported us Elminster's Tower from Greyhawk, and the El threw us out. We wandered about Shadowdale for a day, but nothing was happening. We went back to El's tower and pounded on the door, asking him to send us back to Greyhawk. He wouldn't open up, so we camped on his doorstep. Storm Silverhand showed up and told us a little about the Realms. We were about to head off into the woods to chase drow, as she suggested that would be a good idea, when the DM teleported us to the Moonshaes. We arrived for the final scenes of Darkwalker on Moonshae. It was very confusing, with Tristan and Robyn and the archdruid running around. The Darkwalker was very scary. We couldn't hit him as we didn't have magical weapons (we were first level), but we cheered Tristan and Robyn on, and they eventually whipped the Darkwalker. The DM teleported us to Waterdeep, right after that. Not much was happening there. We started running low on money, but Mirt the Moneylender lent us some. We tried setting up a bodyguard and spell selling service, sort of a Ye Olde Private Eye, but no one ever showed up asking for help. We did get to sell some spells though, and paid Mirt back. Mirt said there was some trouble in Red Larch, somebody had been murdered there, and that we could investigate, maybe make some money. So we walked to Red Larch (we couldn't afford horses). It was a long trip but quiet and uneventful. When we got there the guards explained that there'd been a mistake and that no one had been murdered. They apologized for the mix up and thanked us for our concern. At that point the DM left the room, and we snuck a look at the Realm map. We spotted a likely looking place called the Hall of the Hunting Axe. When he got back, we told him we were heading there. He got mad and said that was out of game knowledge. So we said we were heading to the Troll Moors instead (we'd been told about them in game). He told us we couldn't go there 'cause of the trolls. But we said we were going anyway. He exploded and said he couldn't play with such lousy players. He said we could all consider ourselves eaten by trolls, and it served us right. My buddy complained that he wanted to fight the trolls. That he'd been playing for three months, and wanted to get at least one fight in, just to roll the dice. But the DM got all mad and stormed off. |
| Dargoth09-03-03, 10:24 PM | My first exposure to the FR was through Pool of Radiance on the C64 (8 5.25 floppy diskettes!) The first time I DM in the FR was the 1ed Module Ruins of Adventure The First time I played PnP D&D was Lost Caverns of Tsugcanth (A 1ed greyhawk module) we played it at highg school camp, unfortunately we went to a Christian school which considered D&D to be Devil worship so we had to hide our D&D books everytime the teachers came around |
| Palem Whistler09-04-03, 02:00 AM | My first FR campaign started off as decent level characters loyal to the Lords Alliance in the Silver Marches. The group was assigned to an assignment that involved with tracking a group of elves who were travelling to the High Forest, but never returned. After encountering the wood elves and centaurs native to the forest, it was tough enough just trying to get along with them and navigate the forest while remaining safe and not breaking of the local "rules." Turns out the Elves were kidnapped by the House Dlargdrageth -- the Fey'ri, and were going to be used to breed new members of their race. The group had to form allegiance with the wood elves and convince them to help erradicate the Fey'ri group in the Hall of Four Ghosts. Went pretty well. |
