| Priest_of_Shaundakul04-01-06, 04:23 AM | Either needless, evil, or for the good of all Faerun. :) |
| tae'graciel04-02-06, 03:22 PM | <spoiler> Personally, I think Narn form the shandrail saga... that poor nerdy mage... I guess he doesent sacrifice himself but shandrail, a bar maid who got spellfire, explodes from the release of too much spellfire and it consumers her. He gets so depressed he throws himself off a cliff (then elminster or somebody, dove maybe, gets him and heals him)<spoiler> |
| Karsus the Mad04-02-06, 08:08 PM | All the poor nameless peasants that die every year farming to feed all the high and mighty NPC's we read about:) |
| Krash04-02-06, 09:29 PM | Biggest sacrifice? Handing over the "Netheril" project to Slade ... ;) -- George Krashos |
| Kenzuki04-02-06, 09:47 PM | It might not be the biggest, but the sacrifice the Tormites and Torm himself made to destroy Bane was pretty touching in my eyes. They were all willing to give their lives to stop Bane, that was a most noble sacrifice indeed. |
| Karsus the Mad04-02-06, 10:34 PM | Biggest sacrifice? Handing over the "Netheril" project to Slade ... ;) -- George Krashos That will be fixed, right?:) |
| Dark Wizard04-02-06, 10:46 PM | I just noticed that, weird. Who the heck is "slade"? Some sort of pseudonym, I'm guessing, like the writers of the Avatar series? |
| Alac Luin04-02-06, 11:01 PM | The hundred or so Elves that sacrificed themselves to become moon blades. This is all I can bring to mind at this time :) |
| Lord Karsus04-03-06, 09:15 AM | -We have made the biggest sacrifice of all. We all spend hours at computers, imputting into the collective Hive Mind of Forgotten Realms lore. And, we are not compensated in any sort of way. We trudge on, because we know we should! -Yeah, seriously. Anyway, I believe that the Defenders of Myth Drannor made the largest sacrifice. Though the odds were always against them, they stood on and fought, so that the Elven civilization could flourish once again. |
| Alediran04-03-06, 11:40 AM | -Yeah, seriously. Anyway, I believe that the Defenders of Myth Drannor made the largest sacrifice. Though the odds were always against them, they stood on and fought, so that the Elven civilization could flourish once again. Heck, they even saved many people from other races who lived in the city. |
| Lord Karsus04-04-06, 07:10 AM | Heck, they even saved many people from other races who lived in the city. -See, they sacrificed themselves so that members of completely different races could live. That's so noble and honorable... |
| GothicDan04-04-06, 10:39 AM | *Cackles at Krash's comment about Slade and Netheril.* |
| Koja_of_Khazari04-07-06, 04:09 AM | Mystryl sacrificing herself to destroy Karsus and save the Weave. |
| Lord Karsus04-07-06, 08:10 AM | Mystryl sacrificing herself to destroy Karsus and save the Weave. -Eh, that's never struck me as anything heroic. Her duty was to take care of the Weave- heck, she IS/WAS the Weave. So, she really didn't have a choice... -But, that's just my opinion on the matter... |
| Yokinobu04-07-06, 09:05 AM | How about St. Sollars, the "twice-martyred"? Mind you, I know nothing about him, but ya know, the title and everything... |
| BrianCritchley04-08-06, 03:54 AM | -Eh, that's never struck me as anything heroic. Her duty was to take care of the Weave- heck, she IS/WAS the Weave. So, she really didn't have a choice... -But, that's just my opinion on the matter... if you discount the sacrifices made in the name of duty you'll find there are few sacrifices out there |
| The Son of Shar04-08-06, 10:23 AM | All the poor nameless peasants that die every year farming to feed all the high and mighty NPC's we read about:) I know you're probably joking, but considering the resources those NPCs have, I'd be surprised if the likes of El and Khel don't have a friendly cleric on hand to cast Create Food and Water or Heroes' Feast whenever they get peckish. El probably has a kitchen full of minor magic items like Murlynd's Spoon and Everfull Jugs just in case he gets hungry in the night. Hells, he has a pipe that makes its own tobacco, for Demogorgon's Sake! The man's a cheapskate. |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-08-06, 05:21 PM | People like me going to these threads without ever having read any Faerunian history. Seriously. No joke. Honest. Um, uh, :embarrass, why are you all looking at me like that? |

| JaiaDrottsingr04-09-06, 12:21 PM | Exactly. :tiphat: Well, if I had one. |
| Lord Karsus04-09-06, 05:18 PM | Exactly. :tiphat: Well, if I had one. -Nevermind... |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-09-06, 07:41 PM | I do not bow to your wisdom, though great it isn't. Seriously though, Ed Greenwood, for creating the Forgotten Realms and wasting enough time so that we could waste time. In the Forgotten Realms; I'd say the most needless sacrifice would be those caught in a smokepowder backfire. |
| Lord Karsus04-09-06, 11:16 PM | I do not bow to your wisdom, though great it isn't. -I happen to believe that my reservoir of knowledge is quite large, and is great. Others would agree... Seriously though, Ed Greenwood, for creating the Forgotten Realms and wasting enough time so that we could waste time. In the Forgotten Realms; I'd say the most needless sacrifice would be those caught in a smokepowder backfire. -Ed didn't really waste his time. Remember, he is a writer. He created the Realms through writing, and subsequent extrapolation that came from his writing. As a writer myself, I can say that writing is fun. At times, it can be very consuming and demanding, but it is fun. I don't think that writing is ever a waste of time, unless it is for a stupid school paper, or something like that. But, writing stuff that you enjoy is never "needless sacrafice". Instead, it is actually very rewarding to see everything done and finished. |

The needless sacrifice: "Those caught in a smokepowder backfire." Remember, read THOROUGHLY! |
| Lord Karsus04-10-06, 11:39 PM | I, Fen, am a writer, too, Karsus clone... Writing isn't fun, it's my life. -Well, here is some advice, from one writer to another, Drizzt-clone. Either drastically change something you are doing, or get into a new field, because you should enjoy writing, regardless of how much you do or don't of it. |
| Gemcaster04-11-06, 01:23 PM | spoilers(highlight to reveal) when Zaknafein's wraith(thingy) threw itself into the lake of acid, I felt really sad about that, I mean fighting your dad is one thing but whatching him/it top himself is just painful end spoilers |

| JaiaDrottsingr04-12-06, 04:22 PM | -Well, here is some advice, from one writer to another, Drizzt-clone. Either drastically change something you are doing, or get into a new field, because you should enjoy writing, regardless of how much you do or don't of it. I'm sorry I meant, "Isn't just fun." Jaia is radically different from Drizzt, for example, he'd rather kill other drow than negotiate, which is quite awkward for a devout follower of Elistraee. |
| BrianCritchley04-12-06, 09:19 PM | not every good aligned drow is a drizzt clone, I've played some VERY differnt good drow. in fact drizzt is a lousy example of a good aligned drow in that he's rejected everything about being a drow. |
| Lord Karsus04-12-06, 11:51 PM | I'm sorry I meant, "Isn't just fun." Jaia is radically different from Drizzt, for example, he'd rather kill other drow than negotiate, which is quite awkward for a devout follower of Elistraee. -That 'Just' does make a big difference. It changed the whole meaning of your sentence! -I don't remember much of your characters bio, since you posted it a while ago (circa Dec. or so). But, I do remember a benign surface Drow- doesn't take much to believe another Drizzt-clone is running around under these circumstances. |
| Johnny_Cancer04-13-06, 04:03 AM | I'd say Manshoon stepping down from his leadership position, way to take one for the team. He could have torn it all apart with bickering and infighting but he swallowed his pride. |
| Darth K'Trava04-14-06, 05:52 PM | It might not be the biggest, but the sacrifice the Tormites and Torm himself made to destroy Bane was pretty touching in my eyes. They were all willing to give their lives to stop Bane, that was a most noble sacrifice indeed. Not having as much of an expansive knowledge of Realmslore as most of you here, I'd have to put down a vote for this one. It, to me, is one of the biggest sacrifices out there. A god and his followers willing to risk demise, and doing so, to take out an evil god. All the while sticking to your portfolio. |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-14-06, 07:18 PM | -That 'Just' does make a big difference. But, I do remember a benign surface Drow- doesn't take much to believe another Drizzt-clone is running around under these circumstances. There are definitely many Drizzt clones, whether un- or intentional and I feel proud saying that Jaia hardly qualifies for that insane cult (no offense meant to fellow Drizzt fans). As for the 'Just,' I completely agree with your asessment (for once). |
| Lord Karsus04-14-06, 11:53 PM | As for the 'Just,' I completely agree with your asessment (for once). -Well, it is good to know that we can agree on some things! |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-15-06, 08:34 AM | in fact drizzt is a lousy example of a good aligned drow in that he's rejected everything about being a drow. Exactly, Jaia has not rejected everything about the drow, though he has only ever met three. |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-15-06, 05:00 PM | How about the eldest of the Seven Sisters sacrificing herself to protect--was it Shadowdale?--that country during some war. |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-15-06, 05:02 PM | Zaknafein under the influence of Matron Malice's Zin-Carla spell. He fought out of that influence to sacrifice himself. |
| Lord Karsus04-16-06, 12:50 AM | How about the eldest of the Seven Sisters sacrificing herself to protect--was it Shadowdale?--that country during some war. -That was Sylūne. She was fried by a Red Dragon, if I am not mistaken. She technically isn't dead though- she's a strange Chosen Ghost. |
| Lord shadow3504-16-06, 02:28 AM | You are correct lord Karsus! |

| Lord Karsus04-16-06, 11:53 PM | Any one notice how The Third Karsus hasn't posted at all since the stupid entry? -Yeah, I know. I think that The Third Karsus is actually a carefully crafted illusion made by Another Gnome. Gnomes are fond of illusions, and playing tricks on other people... |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-17-06, 04:48 PM | Karsus Of Carnage still hasn't been able to register yet, though. I disabled his e-mail. |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-17-06, 08:11 PM | Another sacrifice... The prevental of the momentary god super-rock coming through from the final Karsi. |
| Lord Karsus04-17-06, 10:52 PM | Karsus Of Carnage still hasn't been able to register yet, though. I disabled his e-mail. -Why, that's positivley devious... |
| The_Third_Karsus04-17-06, 11:34 PM | Any one notice how The Third Karsus hasn't posted at all since the stupid entry? I am sorry. I have been very busy at work. I work for the IRS and its tax season. Too many hours! (but good overtime pay!) When things calm down, I will start posting more.I made this name because I like Forgotten Realms, Karsus and found the little conversations between Lord Karsus, Karsus the Mad and JaiaDrottsingr amusing. |

| MaskedOne04-18-06, 12:18 AM | Considering recent commentary from Greenwood about Mystril (i.e. she didn't know she was coming back), I'd say Mystril and Torm tie for it. I automatically grant credit to a divinity who's willing to die for something, more so than I grant mortals. Mortals know they'll die, it's just a matter of when and how. For a divinity to lay down their life for something is an order of magnitude up the scale. |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-18-06, 04:27 PM | I am sorry. I have been very busy at work. I work for the IRS and its tax season. Too many hours! | Priest_of_Shaundakul04-19-06, 02:17 AM | So a god sacrificing itself is a greater act than any mortal ever could muster? :( Somewhat disheartening... |
| MaskedOne04-19-06, 02:45 AM | No, just greater than most mortals will ever consider mustering because the conflicts they deal in don't have stakes high enough. I grant more credit to a god that gives its own life (provided it does not have a pre-planned resurrection or reincarnation scheme, credit drops if you know you're coming back*) than I do to a mortal for the same act. In a world of magic, however, it is occasionally both possible and appropriate to offer more than merely one's life and those sacrifices are judged quite differently. *Neither Torm nor Mystril were aware they were coming back as far as I know and as such I grant full credit. I judge based on the willingness to make the sacrifice, not the end result of it. |
| Karsus the Mad04-19-06, 03:23 PM | I am sorry. I have been very busy at work. I work for the IRS and its tax season. Too many hours! (but good overtime pay!) Now we just need that soul convergence epic spell, a tongue of tarrasque half bred demon fey burito, and a pint of fiendish gastral fluids... :evillaugh |
| JaiaDrottsingr04-19-06, 04:19 PM | Karsus the First, I know, I mean, we are gaining over three million dollars in debt each day. I was just stating the public's horrible opinion yet again. If you still don't understand, read my siggie. |

| Darth K'Trava04-19-06, 09:51 PM | And no more political commentary either. It's against the CoC. And, as far as I know, Torm definitely had NO knowledge he'd be brought back. He did his sacrifice for the greater good. Without any thought of compensation for his action. |
| MaskedOne04-19-06, 10:59 PM | Point noted and until recently that set him one above Mystril who I had thought knew she'd be reincarnating. Recent commentary from Greenwood goes against that so I mark their sacrifices as equal. |
| Lord Karsus04-19-06, 11:36 PM | Now we just need that soul convergence epic spell, a tongue of tarrasque half bred demon fey burito, and a pint of fiendish gastral fluids... :evillaugh -I know enough to leave those packages alone. I'm not going to be eating any spell components anymore...I learned my lesson...:shifty: Karsus the First, I know, I mean, we are gaining over three million dollars in debt each day. I was just stating the public's horrible opinion yet again. If you still don't understand, read my siggie. -How much debt the country is taking on each day is neither here nor there. But, if it weren't for the IRS, or the CBP, the government would be a much worse condition, economically. Sure, we spend more than we take in, but who doesn't? That's average credit card debt is somewhere between four and eight thousand dollars (Note, this is not exactly current. I had to do a school report on debt, and this information is circa 2001-2002). Anyway, pleanty of that money goes to programs like Medicaid, and Welfare. Good, "wholesome" things like that... And no more political commentary either. It's against the CoC. -Oh, this is just a brief lesson in economics and civics. That's it. But, the WotC CoC does not specifically prohibit talk of politics, in general. If either of us were specifically sponsoring/attacking a specific party, or government style, or whathaveyou, then I could understand. But, we haven't delved into such territory, and I do not want to head in that direction. Perhaps we are getting a bit off-topic, but that is easily alleviated. |
| MaskedOne04-19-06, 11:42 PM | -I know enough to leave those packages alone. I'm not going to be eating any spell components anymore...I learned my lesson...:shifty: A fact for which I'm profoundly grateful. What's the catch? |
| Lord Karsus04-19-06, 11:50 PM | A fact for which I'm profoundly grateful. What's the catch? -Well, you see, the last time I went into the fridge, I ate what I thought was some leftover Chinese take-out from the other night. It tasted a little funny, but I attributed that to the high MSG-to-Food ratio. I later learned that what I thought was Chinese food was actually Gold Dragon Gizzard, in a lovely Tarrasque-blood gravy. Since then, I have been wary to eat what's in the fridge... |

| JaiaDrottsingr04-22-06, 02:24 PM | Shaun, TTK has always (so far) stuck to the topic. |
| Lord Karsus04-23-06, 12:54 AM | I'd like to hear TheThirdKarsus' opinion on this matter. -He's busy. He has steady employment (I assume) with the IRS. In fact, he is doing my/our taxes. There might be some problems, because we aren't sure if we need to file jointly, or claim dependents. The tax code is difficult enough, but being split into three or now, four equal, but distinct, personas makes it even harder. |

| kiesloth06-10-06, 03:56 AM | Hhmmm...biggest sacrifice, i cant tell one over another, and you were all correct above in your choices!!! But how about Mycintil? You know the guy who cast the 9th lvl spell "Mycontils last resort" from "Shining South" that does enormous damage around you and you get it all no save... I remember i really liked that story but i dont have the book at hand so if interested check it out. Had to do with a barbarian attack against a wizards academy tower...(all time classic attemt) :) |
