| dragonheart08-15-07, 07:58 PM | like the title says - what have I managed to miss that its just a single page with some dice diagrams anda the word ADVENTURE? or is that 4dventure. and suddenly heralding the release of 4.0? |
| dragonheart08-15-07, 07:59 PM | ok its not WotC, just the D&D pages - anyone have any word? |
| Darkarcher73608-15-07, 08:24 PM | Either 4 days of GenCon coverage. OR The release announcment of 4th Edition is upon us. |
| Dark Wizard08-15-07, 08:33 PM | That '4' in 4DVENTTURE is not giving me a good vibe... |
| Blackened_Blade08-15-07, 09:39 PM | Well, lets hope to God that it's not 4th edition. Lord knows I got enough books. Those don't need to be obsolete. |
| MarkHall08-15-07, 09:53 PM | *giggles madly* HAIL ERIS! ALL HAIL DISCORDIA! |
| MarkusTay6308-16-07, 12:17 AM | I for one will NEVER purchase a 4th edition. |
| Alurvelve08-16-07, 02:09 AM | Is it counting down to the worl wide game day thing? Or maybe the GenCon thing idk, but I sure as .... hope its NOT for 4th edition. |
| Mr_Miscellany08-16-07, 02:47 AM | Yup, it's the release (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=204119) of 4E. Here's the most obvious proof yet: link (http://www.daggergate.com/wizards4e.gif). Scroll down and you see "4E Forgotten Realms". Great.....all the massive crap that I (well, we...or at least a very tiny few of us that were around then and are still here now) went through on the Realms-L list and later these forums (in their fledgeling state at the time) during the change-over is going to happen all over again. Can we just put all the sanctimoneous whining (the source of which will be several FR Forum regulars, mark my words) on this tread only so it doesn't clutter the Realms forums in general? Pretty please? |
| 18DELTA08-16-07, 03:02 AM | Hello folks this is my first post. I think it is heralding the future arrival of 4th edition. |
| Mr_Miscellany08-16-07, 03:04 AM | Welcome to the FR Forums! May you weather well the coming storm! |
| MarkHall08-16-07, 03:09 AM | http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1345/1134318905_7ceba73e8e.jpg |
| 18DELTA08-16-07, 03:18 AM | Thanks alot. I Weathered the 3.0 & 3.5 storms. I just worry about my fellow players at my gaming group. I know one is going to throw a fit in the morning when I talk to him. It is going to be PRICELESS! I just wonder what is going to happen to my Realms. I guess I will hide & watch. This is going to be fun. |
| Germelia08-16-07, 03:45 AM | Dear Lord. I can't keep buying books, y'know. |
| Sigurd van Norhusen08-16-07, 04:38 AM | Dear Lord. I can't keep buying books, y'know. But thou must! |
| BadCatMan08-16-07, 05:05 AM | Just so everyone knows, there was nothing said in the secret boards about Forgotten Realms in 4e, just a thread for people to wibble about the idea. No one posted there before the lock-out. |
| runestar08-16-07, 06:17 AM | According to Dicefreaks, it might be something related to Greyhawk...something about a ford venture? |
| dragonheart08-16-07, 09:35 AM | According to Dicefreaks, it might be something related to Greyhawk...something about a ford venture? From the links from Mr.Miscellany its pretty clear that its all of D&D including the realms. Can we just put all the sanctimoneous whining (the source of which will be several FR Forum regulars, mark my words) on this tread only so it doesn't clutter the Realms forums in general? Pretty please? Feel free to use this as a weepingf ground folks I'm as ****** off about this as everyone else. My only hope is that they are mostly changing the setup mechanics and most of the stuff from 3.x will translate over smoothly. If not I'll be doing a lot of translating - probably back to 3.5. |
| HVulpes08-16-07, 10:24 AM | I'm not sure that it would be a fourth edition since they have not gained all of the money that they can from the 3.5 edition. My wild guess: Perhaps a Official Fourth Campaign setting? Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Eberron and this new one. I think they mentioned developing new settings after the big contest that started Eberron. Who knows? |
| BadCatMan08-16-07, 10:51 AM | Nope, I was definitely reading 4th Edition official statements. |
| dragonheart08-16-07, 12:20 PM | Folks please take the time to read the posts from Mr.Miscellany above before posting speculations - it is sadly clear that it is 4th edition being announced. Luckily it isn't scheduled till the second quarter of 2008 so we have time to stock up on the last/rest of the 3.5 stuff before we boycott the changes. |

Beware what do you say... it's against the code of conduct to support any boycott against WotC. :censored: |
| ClobberinTime08-16-07, 02:21 PM | I don't know, I'm kind of tired of needing to search through 40 books for what I need, my living room looks like the childrens section in the library right now. The online stuff looks intriguing as well, I didn't have time the last few years to play with real live people so the online aspect of it appeals to me. Also, clearly this is the reason for WoTC dropping the Paizo lisence to Dungeon/Dragon, They realized that adventures sell pretty well and they want to be the ones selling those adventures. Honestly, I'm more excited to see what they come up with than I am upset. The conversion to 3e was in 2000, which is a long long time ago. |
| sillaric_culdanin08-16-07, 03:18 PM | I must say that although I likely won't move any of the three games I'm currently running to 4E I'm very excited to see what's coming. If you haven't seen the Saga Edition mechanic, check it out... if the rumors are to be believed it is the future and I rather like it. Far less base classes, but huge flexibility due to talent trees. |
| MarkusTay6308-16-07, 06:26 PM | I'm excited only as far as there will be a new FR CS book released, which will update us on all the nitty-gritty that has transpired since the last one. I realize that GHotR will have some of that, but it's mostly about the PAST, whereas a new CS will have current campaign information. I guess now we know why the GHotR has a 'neutral' cover. ;) New edition, new logo.... |
| Laerekh_Jaelre08-16-07, 07:51 PM | I don't know, I'm kind of tired of needing to search through 40 books for what I need, my living room looks like the childrens section in the library right now. HAHA..... me too:P |
| MarkusTay6308-16-07, 07:57 PM | To get this somewhat back-on-topic, does anyone besides me find this new server 'sucky'? It stalls, it's slow-as-cr_p, half the images don't appear.... This is called 'updating' (modernizing)? If this is a vision of things to come, we are all doomed. :raincloud |
| Voric08-16-07, 08:10 PM | To get this somewhat back-on-topic, does anyone besides me find this new server 'sucky'? It stalls, it's slow-as-cr_p, half the images don't appear.... This is called 'updating' (modernizing)? If this is a vision of things to come, we are all doomed. :raincloud This is what they call "traffic overload." Word spread pretty fast. I imagine that the server damn near crumbled from the collective push at 6:29pm EDT. |
| dragonheart08-17-07, 09:25 AM | yeah but its still down and "overloaded" after 24 hours - they had to know that the 4e announcement was going to generate a flood of commnet and exploration - much more than a normal day's load for the first week or so - so why didn't they prepare for it? Yes extra servers and lines cost money but the hardware and linkages are small change in an advertising budget so it should have been done and prepared for. THe online stuff for 4e looks interesting but it is going to be using a lot of space as well (maybe they will convert the servers/links they didn't get for the announcement to this?). I'll reserve judgement on it till I see it next year. Lore is lore and will be useful no matter the edition and if the transition from 3.5 to 4 is smooth and easy using the formats etc for the monster manuals, PRCs etc so that all my stuff translate fairly smoothly - unlike the massive loss in experience etc PCs went through in the 2e-3e translation - I'll be happy to consider moving my campaign onwards; If not then I'll be buying lore books but not general D&D books. BAsically Done right the transition is a winner, done wrong its a loser. Sadly given the degredation in the products over the last few years I strongly suspect it will not be done right. |
