| Faeryl Zauvirr07-10-03, 02:15 AM | I have just started a new high level campaign and I wanted some help with a character backgound. I chose to play a male LN halfling Rog3/Clr4 of Kossuth/Black Flame Zealot10 named Kalyrx. He is from Thay, and remains an enigma in the party. He hasn't spoken a word, and his eyes are seemingly devoid of all life. When not on the move, or fighting, Kalyrx spends much of his time pacing (or rather stalking), clenching and unclenching his grip on his kukri. He enjoys collecting trophies, locks of hair from difficult opponents. His hair is jet black, while his eyes are dull blue. His hook for joining the party was an instruction from Kossuth himself; why is Lolth silent? Any suggestions will be great |
| Conan07-10-03, 02:21 AM | So let me get this straight. Kossuth himself gave a written reference for this guy and on the basis of that the party took him in no questions asked? Or was it just no questions answered? Sounds like some of my player's are hiking over to BrisVegas for gaming sessions. :smirk: |
| Azzadar07-10-03, 02:34 AM | That is an interesting character. I wish my group would spend some time developing their characters. One PC is like "My guy is a ranger." I ask him for some background and he says "He protects the forest and stuff." Grr... Anyway, I like halflings. Your character rocks. |
| Faeryl Zauvirr07-10-03, 03:05 AM | Conan: Kalyrx was in silent prayer and Kossuth came to him telling him about an open portal into the abyss. Two weeks later, a Monk of Kossuth (an actually character in the party) sent for a representative from the church because he discovered a problem (the open portal) and thought the party might need some decent backup. When Kalryx arrived, the monk was dead. Azzadar: Thanx. |
| Conan07-10-03, 03:16 AM | Don't get me wrong I like the char. I was just querying the bit about him not having said a word yet. Now if I was playing a char in that group I'd have asked who he was and where he came from, At Least. and I'd be making sure he was walking in front of me at all times till he earned my trust. I'm actually interested to know more about him. His history etc... Oh and I was also having a little dig at my player's blind exception of certain things like other char's and NPC's. PS. What?! No bite about BrisVegas? ;) |
| Faeryl Zauvirr07-10-03, 03:35 AM | So far I have in my roleplaying notes (I wrote these up ten minutes before the first session). Background - Kalyrx was sent from a fairly large cathedral of Kossuth centred in Thay. Before he joined the party his visage was feared across the east; none knew his true name, only by his dark flaming kukri, equally dark hair and lifeless eyes. Outside the church of Kossuth this assassin was known as the Juxeyri (Mulan for wraith). One evening, Kalyrx was in silent prayer when Kossuth came to him telling him and told him about an open portal into the abyss. Two weeks later, a Monk of Kossuth (an actually character in the party) sent for a representative from the church because he discovered a problem (the open portal) and thought the party might need some decent backup. Kalyrx responded to this call believing it the will of Kossuth. When Kalryx arrived, the monk was dead. His first class was Rogue, so I was thinking he could have been brought up on the streets or sold into slavery. Any thoughts? P.S. Conan, BrisVegas is the most happening place in Australia, I would expect your players to come up here! ;) |

| Conan07-10-03, 04:39 AM | So, did the party know he was coming, who he was etc..?(eg did this monk know the answers to these questions and impart them to the group before snuffing it?) or did he just turn up and join with the group? I think that would be the sticky point here. Why do the party members accept him when they know nothing about him? Except maybe for a reputation that should strike fear into them more than anything else. Hmmm... Wraith huh? Then I'd have him ghosting around the edges of the party. Suddenly appearing looking over ppls shoulders making em nervous. Big ranks in Move Silent and Hide go without saying. Intimidate, Listen and Spot too. Don't waste energy pacing and stuff. He sounds like he should be about efficiency of movement. You should also forget looting corpses etc.. just wipe blades clean and walk away. Oh and never buy into anything even remotely resembling a party decision session. Listen, way up the details and then act, whether the party has come to a consensus or not. My 2cents. Hope that was constructive. |
