| DecapitateNecKs11-23-06, 03:16 PM | I just read r.a salvatores sellswords:Road to patriarch, I went to the library one day..picked up the book not realizing till half way through that it was the 3rd in the series.. So i read the entire thing, and loved it.. Then i googled r.a salvatore, and thus came up with forgotten realms.. and started reading threads on this forum.. I have been interested in learning about d&d, and love rpgs.. But where and how do i start? What things do i need, what books do i need? How do you find people to play with? It seems so overwelming, so much information, i just need some direction.. Much appreciated, thanks. |

In which case you're coming to a new medium, a new game and ruleset, and a new fantasy world all at once -- no surprise you're overwhelmed. To learn about D&D, start with the Player's Handbook. If you decide to run a game you'll probably need the Dungeon Masters Guide and Monster Manual as well. All the many other books available are completely optional. The Realms is a very detailed secondary world created by Ed Greenwood in 1967 and published as a product line by TSR and then Wizards of the Coast starting in 1987. The book called Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting is a good introduction to the setting. You can either find existing RPG players through the internet or ads at your local games store, or invite friends to try it out. Most people learn D&D and other RPGs through playing with existing groups, but it's possible to learn from the books, and newcomers are often better players than veteran 'gamers' because they aren't jaded and focused on pointless rules minutiae. Welcome to a big little world. |

The one thing that does worry me is the attitudes of some people who have been playing this game for years, Since im new i feel as though they may get angry at me, and not understand what i am doing or saying at times... Seriously, who cares what other people think? You're learning the game, you're learning the game. Eventually, you know enough to be "accepted" by those people. Then, you'll be able to make fun of those Noobs! ;) :D Anyways karsus where are you located at in brooklyn?
