Where in the realms should I run this adventure? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Okay, first here is my idea for the adventure. Bascially a log time ago an alien spaceship landed on Faerun for unknown reasons. Not even the gods know of its exsistence. The spaceship has enough bio-mechanical constructs on it to wipe out all of life on Toril. In addition the leader is extremely cunning and dangerous. I am thinking of giving him an Int score of 60+. This is definitely an epic level adventure. The ship will basically be a mega dunegon with tons of enemies. The PCs goal is to stop the leader from wiping out all life on Toril. As for the reason why he waited so long? That, the PCs will have to find out, hehehehehe.

So, where would you run this adventure in the realms?

EDIT: Oh yeah, the PCs are going to have to get a very powerful magical artifact of my creation in order to even cast spells in the ship. No magic works on the ship., unless they have the artifact.

All across the Realms?

I'd say this cunning leader would want to start somewhere covert and sneakyful, so maybe the western Sea of Fallen Stars among the Netherese ruins there and into the underdark beyond. He'd have countless agents in almost every region of Faerūn, and weakened Cormyr makes a fine target for an inital assault.

Interesting, I think I am going to have him sned out disguised bio-mechanical constructs to act as agents for him and stuff. Maybe even have a tribe of orcs worship him or something.

Though it's 2nd edition and not Realms-specific, there was an entire boxed set built around the premise of a high-tech spacecraft crashing into the PCs' world. 'Twas called Tale of the Comet. If you can find it, I'd recommend getting it. You should find some nifty ideas in there.

Another place that would be rather cool is to set it on some remote island somewhere between Lantan and Chult, This area is pretty remote, so it's mildly reasonable that NO ONE would have stumbled across it, especially if the Big-Bad could have used some kind of cloaking technology on the island itself. Also, A group of servant/biomechanicals could easily hide in a dense jungle.

Also be a source for some of the amazing Lantanese technology?

Hmmm, thats a good idea, maybe i could tie Gond and his clergy into this as well.:)

Perhaps he could be giving small amounts of advanced technology to some Gondsmen, and he has them duped into believing he is actually Gond.

Setting it in the Netherese ruins would be great, I love that place.

Thanks Wooly! I knew I remembered a similiar plot line from the old days!

My suggestion of a locale would be the Unknown region, If this ship is HUGE as it sounds like, the lost continent sounds like a great place for it (since there isn't any cannon on the place.) And a great place to avoid a gods attention.

Peace....

And have fun with you campaign ;)

I would recommend looking at the old 1E Greyhawk module called "Return to Barrier Peaks".

If you are looking for a reason as to why the alien boss didn't do anything until now, just say he was trapped in suspended animation and only something now caused his release.
