| Shy_Guy08-29-05, 02:52 PM | Im new to the FRCS. I started a campaign in the Heartlands about three weeks ago that did not work out. My players and I have agreed to start over from scratch, so i am looking for suggestions on where to base this new campaign. I know, I know. "Just read up the geography section" but damn it, im at work for eight hours a day and with family or friends for at least another two or three. That doesnt leave much time to research a perfect spot. So, im asking that you guys let me know of a perfect spot so i can read up on it specifically instead of going through the whole book to find the best place. Where is the best spot for FR newbies to begin a adventuring? If it helps, at least two of my players will probably choose to be elves, so mabey the High Forest? Just let me know of a good spot off the bat so i dont have to parse through the entire geography section. Thanks much. |

| WVgamer08-29-05, 04:01 PM | What exactly are you looking for in a region? |
| Aylomeizen08-29-05, 04:43 PM | I'd suggest starting out in the Central Sword Coast region. It's a good, easy location to start in, and it gets even better as you start to progress in levels. It also gains easier access into some of the mildly tougher regions, which is also quite beneficial to those with a bit of wanderlust. You can go West to the island nations, or East to some of the more classical campaign locations. |

| tariff09-01-05, 06:23 PM | yeah, my adventuring group (2nd and 3rd lvl characters) are in the dalelands. Started off in Ashabenford actually. I think this is a great area to start a campaign. Theres several published adventures set in this area that makes for a good campaign. At the moment we are playing Raiders of Galaths Roost (an adventure from a Dungeon magazine, august 2001 edition), theres also the pool of Radiance adventure in nearby myth drannor, followed by The City of the Spider Queen near Dagger falls. |
| Yom Beekus09-02-05, 07:40 PM | The Moonsea isn't too bad either. A bit tough on lower levels....but mid-levels should find a fun and descent challenge. |
| Kanklokan09-04-05, 04:29 PM | The area around Baldurs Gate? |
| Faraer09-04-05, 06:59 PM | Anywhere can work -- the most important factors are whether you like the area and can present it enthusiastically, how complex it is (many things to juggle at once -- cities are particularly so), and how much additional information exists (and whether you want it and can access it). To give more specific advice (as opposed to posting our own favourites), you need to let us know what went wrong with your first try. |
| Krash09-04-05, 07:55 PM | The best place would be somewhere like the town of Amphail, a couple of days travel outside Waterdeep. Detailed in "Volo's Guide to the North", it alludes to a 'starter dungeon' in the description and gives scope for a party to do wilderness encounters or travel to the 'big smoke' for urban encounters in Waterdeep. Of use will be the City of Splendors: Waterdeep web enhancement whenever WotC decide to release it. -- George Krashos |
