I have been working on a series or Realms adventures and need some help deciding on where to set them.
I am looking for wide open plains areas or desert.
I want to give the adventures a wild west type attitude. Wizards getting into duels in the streets at high noon. Mysterious drifters. Small towns seperated by miles of nothing.
Any suggestions on a good spot.
I was thinking of the Silver Marches, the hordelands, parts of the west and a few other spots.

Anauroch would also be an ok choice I gues. You could place some small bedine settlements there and there's a LOT of desert :) Also evil activities like the Zhents and Shade's.

The North is little enough civiliced to fit your needs. And if you ever need more stuff on it, there's three, if not more pdf's on it on the WotC download page for DnD.

I recommend Volo's Guide to the North, haven't finished reading The North, and the Savage Frontier yet.

Maztica. I'm also heading for wild-west style duels in my campaign.

Sketching out Fort Flame right this moment. With wanted posters and all.

Maztica has plains, savannahs, deserts, rocky mountain ranges...

Only trouble is... finding info (recent) about it.

Check previous posts in the boards.

Thanks these are all good ideas
I used to love Maztica I wonder if I can find my old 2nd edition stuff. I had forgotten about it.

the eastern part of the Silver Marches have this wild west flavour. I'm thinking of towns like Deadsnows or Newfort + the environment is really hostile, especially in the mountains.

Deadsnows sounds like the kind of name a town in western would have.

the western heartlands is pretty much frontier, isn't it? Small towns, villages, almost no cities to speak of, lots of monsters...

But the North is fine as well I suppose. Could mix in some illuskan mages of the arcane brotherhood. I see two wizards, in a dusty main street outside the tavern, both fingering spell components, eyes twitching.... townspeople hiding themselves wherever they can, one dropping into a rain barrel, another rolling beneath the tavern balcony... of course, the duel's rigged, with crossbowmen hidden on a rooftop, ready to disrupt the mage's spell...

Deadsnows = Deadwood (if you have HBO).

I'd suggest the Shaar. Grasslands, low population, barbarians (kinda like indians), miles of nothingness... and Chessenta's north of there, with the Vilhon Reach to the west, neither of which seems terribly peaceful and stable.

I would suggest Chessenta or even Mulhorand... the eastern edge of Mulhorand.
