Whetstone of keen edge [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-02-06, 06:35 PM I have a player who is a shield dwarf, in races of faerun it says that a common racial magic item is a whetstone of keen edge. I cannot find this item anywhere, a little help would be great.

05-02-06, 11:53 PM -Offhand, I don't know where the item is located, or if it was even ever detailed. Magic of Faerūn, maybe. If there are no stats for it though, I'd say simply make it a whetstone that bestows the spell Keen Edge on a blade sharpened on it for a limited time.

05-18-06, 08:35 PM i don't recall seeing it anywhere either. i would just change the name of the Scabbard of Keen Edges (DMG pg. 266) and use those stats. it was probably developed to allow a character the same benefit as the scabbard, but for slashing weapons that aren't swords or sword-like.

05-20-06, 10:17 AM Unfortunately, a few magic items (some which I wrote) got cut for spaces reasons from Races of Faerun, including the whetstone of keen edge, but didn't get cut from the text. Most (maybe all) of the ones that got cut were of the simpler variety like the whetstone, which allowed you to apply the keen edge spell for 1 hour to a slashing weapon. It was usable at any time.

Whetstone of Keen Edge:
This magical whetstone doubles the threat range of any edged weapon it is used to sharpen for one hour. For instance, if it sharpens a longsword (which has a normal threat range of 19-20), the now keen
longsword scores a threat on a 17-20. Only slashing weapons can be sharpened by a whetstone. It does not stack with the keen property of magical weapons or the spell keen edge.
Caster Level: 6th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, keen edge; Market
Price: 16,200 gp; Weight: 1 lb.
