If anyone could pick the actors\public figures\ or know people to portrait a NPC in a movie\tv series about FR, who would you pick? And Why?

Maybe Orlando Bloom to Drizzt, or Colin Farrel to Entreri. Bruce Willis to Cale or Cate Blanchett to Alustriel?

I've always been a staunch advocate of Brendan Gleeson playing Mirt. That must happen. :)

Donald Sutherland gets my vote for Elminster.

Maybe Orlando Bloom to Drizzt
Please... Orlando Bloom was good as a nature-loving vegetarian elf, but as a drow? don't make me laugh.
Colin Farrel to Entreri
Colin Farrell? Entreri is supposed to be menacing and intimidating, not detestable. If Vin Diesel was going to leave his hair, possibly.
Donald Sutherland gets my vote for Elminster.
Good make-up can make him memorable.

Al Pacino as Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunson, And Peter O'toole as Szass Tam are two of the few well known actors I would recommend playing any of the iconic realmsian figures.

For the most part, only no-name actors will do the setting justice.

On the pic in the FRCS Elminster looks similar to Sean Connery. :D

'' a nature-loving vegetarian elf ''

but that's Drizzt!?

Entreri is suposed to be a small fast and highly skilled assassin. Vin Diesel has the body bulk of a gorilla!

What about Brad Pitt as Fzoul and Adrian Pasdar as Manshoon?

Brad Pitt as Fzoul?

Brad Pitt is like... Super gorgeous, even at 42-ish-whatever. Fzoul is just about completely average. Though I think he has the talent to play the part, he doesn't have the look.

Woody Allan as Elminster -

He's got the whole "I want to touch the girls I raised as my daughter" thing down pat. :P

Bridget the Midget as Olive Ruskettle. ;)

Ah, damn, I am going to get CANED for this comment about actor for artemis...but...

Tom Cruise.

Why?

Short? Check
Lean? Check
40 something? check
dark hair: check
hawk-like nose: check
physically adept: check
disturbed childhood? Maybe check.
can act emotionless/cold: if necessary, check
a little bit crazy: check

I have a feeling this was the comment everyone was afraid to make, in light of a potential loss of reputation here, well , luckily, I have no reputation here at all, So i will let you ruminate on my theory.

Well, i admit i'm not a good judge of male beauty, but i was based on personal charisma then looks anyway. Besides not many people could portrait a tyrant without looking silly, and Pitt could.

Christian Bale as Sememnon and Nicole Kidman as Simbul(i think she got the dangerous pretty look for it)?

Will Smith as Drizzt.

Don't let too much of Burningspear's thinking get to you now.

Tom Cruise.

I could see it, with that crazy glint in his eye as in Collateral and a four-o'clock shadow.

Will Smith as Drizzt.

"Aww, hell no!!!" And by that I mean that is what Drizzt will say at least once per movie if Will Smith played him.

How about George Clooney as a paladin? That smug half-smile of his and his clean cut looks always made me think he would make the perfect paladin just by playing himself. Piergieron, perhaps?

Cameo appearances by Chow Yun-Fat as a wandering shugenja/wu-jen with Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as his samurai bodyguard. Justification can be found on the covers of the Rokugan d20 setting book and the supplement Secrets of the Phoenix.

Acting ability, you're right. I suppose they could "ugly him up" a bit.

Christian Bale as Sememnon and Nicole Kidman as Simbul(i think she got the dangerous pretty look for it)?

I agree with both of these.

Drizzt- Tom Cruise

I don't like Tom Cruise or Drizzt, so this could work. ;)

Larloch- Ian Mckellan

I don't think any actor currently alive could really portray Larloch well.

Szass Tam- Chrisopher Lee

Totally agree on this one. He likes playing evil wizards (see his cooperation with Rhapsody's latest fantasy music albums).

Jarlaxle- Brad Pitt

This is an even further stretch than Fzoul, in my opinion.

Johnny Depp as a Pirate :/

I hate to admit it, but Tom Cruise as Artemis could really work.

I like Drizzt alot, but for the life of me I can't think of anyone to play him. Orlando Bloom has the right body type and temperment for it, but I'm hard pressed to see it for some reason.

Some one once suggested Lawrence Fishburn for Jarlaxle, and while it sounds laughable I've been thinking about it. Aside from body type (Fishburne is too big) he would act the heck out of the role. As Morpheous he played the smooth, sly, confident man that could defuse a situation with a glance. So personality wise, he'd be perfect.

I like Al Pacino as Khelban, hes got that down pat.

Connery as Elminster, thats a no brainer.

Ron Pearlman to obould(classic) and Mila Jojovich to play Scyllua Darkhope?

brad pit for fzoul you are having a laugh, either that or you've been drinking heavily.

for fzoul you need some one imposing over 6 foot strawberry blond hair. rather rugged looks.

can't think of an actor who would look the part he needs to be a bit of a viking.

hang on 6foot2 strawberry blond hair!

hang on that's me woooohoooooooo i'm in.

I hope it's a short scene, seeing Brad Pitt being torn apart as Bane erupts from him would make my day.

My vote for Entreri would by Gabriel Byrne, take a look at his role in "End of Days".

I think either Christopher Lee or Ian McKellen would make an excellent Elminster. Maybe John Rhys-Davies as Thiddledorp Pwhent (sp.?)

I'd have to say that Artemis would be played pretty well by Edward Norton with his head shaved.

For Drizzt, I think Jet Li would do a pretty good job if not for the accent. Lots of makeup would have to be applied. For Cattie-Brie and Wulfgar, I'd suggest no-name actors.

Actually, Sean Connery would do pretty well as Elminster. It does look like him in the book.

I'd have to 2nd Red_Wizard's vote for Al Pacino as Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunson.

Christopher Lee as Szass Tam

Also, as a disclaimer, I'd not allow anyone from the LotR to even touch a Forgotten Realms film. Not that they weren't good, but it would give it that Sci-Fi original pictues feel, and they usually suck.

Do you mean Jarlaxle? He's the only Drow that I know of with a shaven head, and Artemis has a full head of black hair (there's an illustration of Artemis on page 158 of the Forgotten Realms Campaign book, 2nd. printing).

Sorry, I was thinking of Edward Norton in American History X. He could do Artemis's role well with his hair cut some what short. For Jarlaxle, I'd suggest anyone else but Johnny Depp. He shouldn't make any appearances in FR. Period.

Looks like I had a case of foot-in-mouth disease when I posted this. Bane erupts from Iachtu Xvim when he returned, not the character the previous poster mentioned.

Drizzt = Ray Park (star wars1, x-men1 , sleepy hallow, gorgeous)
Catti-brie = Keria Knightly, or Megan Fox
Jaraxle = Johnny Dep
Artemis = Colin Farrel or Tom Cruise
Elminster = Sean Connery
I have a list of others somewhere with most of the Drizzt company, but can not think of them off the top of my head.

I personally wouldn't go for any famous "known" actors. The problem with doing such things is the actors tend to get typecast. And there tend to be protests if the actor doesn't "fit" an imagined profile.

Perfect example: Michael Keaton playing Batman. There was a HUGE uproar over Beetlejuice playing the Dark Knight. Yes, he DID do a good job, but- considering that Batman was behind a mask, the above named characters wouldn't be behind a mask, you didn't get stuck with a mental image of Mr. Mom running around fighting crime. While his Batman was good, his Bruce Wayne didn't grab me as Bruce Wayne.

Case in point- From the original poster's suggestion- Orlando Bloom as Drizzit. Orlando Bloom already played an elf in Lord of the Rings, and if I were do see him on screen as Drizzit, I'd be thinking the entire time: "Gee, Legolas really needs a bath."

:D

Plus, a lot of well known actors already have a "presence" that you're aware of. Rather than try to shoehorn Arnold Schwarzenegger as Elminster, it would be much, much easier to find another actor that would resemble the old sage more.

So for me, I'd slag the whole cast with unknowns, and let them build the images.

Well I think the problem with that is there would be less want for people other then forgotten realms enthusiasts to go see the movie. Besides the all-star cast mentioned, if there are a few genuine stars in the lineup it would bank more at the box office.

Some roles woulds genuinely fit nicely with some famous actors, some would not. The trick is to get a good balance in there.
