Note that this isn't a thread to bash anything or anyone, I like both of the logos, I just prefer the original one.

So who's with me?

And if you're a new player who hasn't seen the old logo, here it is:

Never did like the lettering on the old logo.

The current logo is a bit too fancy but it's easy on my eyes.

Yeah, I never liked the old FR logo; I downright LOVE the new one. Very regal and befitting, I think.

The novels look so darned sharp with it, too. :cloud9:

I like the new one. It's pleasing on the eye and looks like it was done by a professional caligrapher. The old one looks like a blind dwarf sloppily chiseled it in stone, then filled it in with gold (which is the good part of it). Then the lil' trademark...that's just tacky.
Now, combine the new style with gold:king:

Mr. The Mad only said that to disagree with me, of course.

I might be looking through rose-coloured glasses because the old one reminds me of younger days, (I should mention that I'm 20 and not someone who was around in the early days of D&D and wears a pony tail and hawaiian shirts ;)) but I dunno. There's something primal about it. And awesome. The awesome is a big factor.

You're not wearing a tracksuit and trainers, a burberry cap and smoking a *** by any chance are you?! :P

I gotta say the new logo is my fave, probs better to not say why tho.

I actually just talked to my design professor about this, and he said that he thinks the new one fits the "rules of logo design" better. It's more scalable and simple. However, I explained to him my nostalgia for the older one, and he said he understood that, and that a lot of companies hold on to "outdated" logos because they're recognizable regardless. So I guess, objectively and somewhat scentificly, the new one is superior.

He also said he likes the lettering of the new one ;-)

Gold is gold. Gold is forever. Besides. I'm Karsus. My eyes blaze gold. I have golden magical rings on each finger. I even have golden arcs of arcane energy criss-crossing my body. Of course I like gold;)

Actually, I'm currently wearing a black turtle neck with a throat mic sewn into the collar, kakis (with a few added straps and pockets), seemless black leather boots, a black velvet waist coat with built in wearable computer, custom made london opera trench with silver buttons I crafted myself (with my sigil engraved into them) and a broad rimmed hood including a headset sewn into the sides, a pair of oakleys with a kopin cyber display added to display this very message. I'm also wearing two black spandex shoulder length gloves. One is a gesture sensing input device I use as a mouse, built with parts from an old nintendo powerglove, the other is a keyglove I built from a standard N.A. keyboard with my own keycoding. I've also always been rather partial to scrimshaw pipes...
Hey...you asked:cool:

Nah. It's always best when one states their opinions;) It's more fun that way.

Personally, I prefer the old logo. It was more medieval than the current one. The current logo has too much of the stylized look that characterizes the new FR artwork (which doesn't look like medieval fantasy at all; rather, the new art style reminds me rather forcefully of the 80's, where everyone was trying to look cool and hip and just ended up looking ridiculous).

Just to chive in. To me, it's the exact opposite. The old style was nothing but poor 80's (despite being 90's work) in every single detail....(lack of art quality, cohesive visual details, lack of quality materials, etc). The new one is more neo-fantasy (as in it can't be connected to any particular generation but we all identify with it, which can't be said of previous editions, when exact earth nation analogs can be told by someone that lacks any history knowledge)...the interior art is horrid.

I prefer the new logo. The old one seemed kind of... campy? It didn't seem like something that would have actually come from a fantasy world to me.

I really don't pay much attention to art at all, for good or for ill, regardless of edition... But I do prefer much of the older art because of it's FEEL, over direct artistic style. Sort of like how many people feel about the Star Wars films.

The new stuff feels incredibly Generic McFantasy - which is boring.

I like both logos. The older one is harder to read, but it feels like an old Roman stone arch, like the Realms were lost to time and, well, forgotten. The new logo is more regal and elfish, and lends to a more "currently happening" feel.

Actually the logo was made no later than 1986.

I'm not that fond of either of them, but the lettering in the new one -- an elaboration of the popular font Mason Serif -- evokes modern typography to me more than the Realms.
