Who's the man in the protrait? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-25-05, 04:44 PM For those of you that used the Forgotten Realms 1st ed gray box...

Who's the man depicted in the portrait of one of the books (the other reprints the cover from Darkwalker on Moonshae...!!)

Virtually I've got anything that has appeared from Realms and never have found a reference to this character....

In some other forums I've ben said that he is a Tuigan Horde Raider, or the portrait for a game (made by Keith Parkinson) from another company, that ended sold to TSR.

Someone got an idea or a weblink whit an explanation?

08-25-05, 08:05 PM This is the guy on horseback with the staff in his hand with Black hair. My guess is Uthgart, but I don't think they were invented yet.

November 7, 2004: Hello, all.

Athenon, Ed asked Keith Parkinson (the artist who did that particular piece) that back in 1987, and Keith shrugged and said, “Whoever you want it to be. I dunno.” So there you have it. Ed wanted a more Merrie Olde Englande/Sherwood Forest look, and in fact was asked to prepare (and did) an exhaustive art order of three figures (with particular attention to every last little detail of what they’d be wearing).

If that's the one, then his name is Thunderstorm, and his 2E stats were Human Warrior (Fighter) 15.

It came from the collector cards series TSR put out... the 1991 edition. That's the only place I think I've seen any kind of stats for him.

Then TSR is wrong or they reused the art because, again, Ed and the artist claim differently as we can see from the reply I posted from Ed.

I wouldn't be surprised that the art was recycled for the cards. There did seem to be quite a bit of that during that time period.

I dunno then. I can only go by what Ed, and the artist, says about that picture, which is what I quoted. :) As far as I'm concerned, TSR recycled the art and the picture on the old grey box is no one or it's who ever you want it to be. :)
