| Chosen Of Bhaal11-24-04, 11:47 PM | Is it me or has FR recently been bringing up a lot of storylines that is making the enemy/evil forces of faerun grow quite a bit? Im just worried that all the niceness might die out with things like Shade flying around :( ;) :P |
| staples7811-25-04, 12:07 AM | Evil is allowed to win now so they are just taking advantage of that fact ;) |
| GothicDan11-25-04, 12:10 AM | All of the nice things aren't going to die as long as good outnumbers evil, and overall, it still does. Not by a lot, but by enough. And the fact that the majority of "neutral" nations and people would ally against evil (whether you're good or neutral, you don't like someone trying to kill you or torture you over overtax you, etc.) only ensures the fact that it will take a long time for evil to ever grow powerful enough to really tip the scales of Faerun in the favor of the 'dark side', if ever. |
| Chosen of the Dark Sun11-25-04, 12:11 AM | Just look at the sixth line of my sig to figure out why evil is winning. :P |
| dragonheart11-26-04, 04:11 AM | gothic has it down pretty well but there is another reason as well - most of us still end up playing more good characters than evil ones. if evil is not seeming to win till we step in what is the point of adventuring? (and of us playing and spending our hordes on the stuff WoTC puts out? :D ) |
| Forsaken_Rocker11-26-04, 03:23 PM | if evil wasnt winning what would we do for (most) campaigns, it makes setting up good based campaigns eaiser and more world scaled. |
| GothicDan11-26-04, 04:06 PM | Forgotten Realms is not, and was never meant to be, a world for world-wide based campaigns where evil is winning. It's supposed to be a tentative balance of alignments and political and martial forces, with webs of power and intrigue interwoven. It really doesn't matter whether one's evil or good in the realms. Think of it like politics: the party doesn't matter, there's always something you have to watch out for with the politicians. That's the way good is, too. And, again, evil is clearly not winning. Evil certainly is making certain gains that could only be assumed in the past due to TSR's Code of Ethics, but it is far from "winning." |
| BrianCritchley11-26-04, 10:18 PM | I've noted that 9 times out of 10 the protagionist in a book tends to be fighting for the status quo and that IMHO is a good thing, I hate a setting that changes too much too fast. |
| primemover00311-27-04, 09:05 AM | Now you see that Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb. |
| Chosen of the Dark Sun11-28-04, 12:41 AM | Now you see that Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb. As I said before, this is exactly what it says in the sixth line of my sig. |
| Zanan11-28-04, 03:55 AM | "Evil" isn't winning much more than before. If one had read all sourcebooks for any given time, one would know that there was always enough "evil" at work. The only thing which makes "evil" appear winning these days are the number of storylines dedicated to evil rather than goodly folk. So it is not something like another ice age, it's more like a changed focus of attention of the FR "press", so to speak. |
| ClobberinTime11-29-04, 12:03 PM | Evil is just stronger, look at history and this should be clear... |
| iKitten11-29-04, 12:22 PM | Considering how the evil forces of the Realms rarely ally with each, and never in mass, and never for long (Although when they do come close, it's never good for the forces of such =^_^=), and the fact that as often as they are opposed to good, they're opposed to each other as well, Evil can't really win. Just take a look at the diety alliances/rivalries. Particularly anyone having anything to do with Cyric. See what I mean? |
