| Elvenknight_Cologne10-14-06, 10:21 AM | In August came out Dragons of F. Next year in March came out Tearing the Wave. And in April, May and June don't come any FR product. Then we have a time window from Aug 06 till minimum July 07 were only was released a worse short adventure (Twilight Tomb) an a hopefully good adventure (Tearing t.W.). Is this all? This is a hole year! Why neglect Wizards the FR fans worldwide? Eberron is pushed, pushed, pushed. I think, that Wizards not give a damn about the FR RPG world. Only the FR novels. But why? When you have two childrean, than you must attend both of them. |
| Bladesong10-14-06, 10:49 AM | Well, if WotC is releasing anything at all about the campaign setting, then it is supporting it. We can't pick and choose what they release. Just be glad they didn't Greyhawk the Realms. |

And the investment $ goes into product lines with better sales demographics, momentum, and consumer consumption. Which unfortunately for us, is Eberron. Keep in mind though, FR is slow, steady, and consistent in sales. Eberron OTOH, may turn out to be a huge spike in popularity - then fading back below FR in popularity and consumer traction. In an ideal world, both product lines will prosper and clue each fan base in to the others. :) |

When you have two childrean, than you must attend both of them. Relax. Just because the products aren't to your liking doesn't mean WotC ignored the product line. You might dislike and thus disregard those products, but the basic truth of the matter is that FR still receives about three to four 160 page supplements and one 30 page adventure each year, including 2006, and it seems almost a definite for 2007. All the supplements just happen to be adventures. We were told well in advance that the next three supplements would be in the adventure format of Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave (a different format from Mysteries of the Moonsea). While I personally dislike the over-emphasis on adventures, I don't see it as WotC giving less support for FR. To me it is just a poor direction to take the product line, but I'm sure by now WotC has heard the great outcry of negativity towards the regional adventure fully replacing the standard supplements. It is very likely that by 2008 or so WotC will return to a more balanced use of formats to present the Realms in. Eberron only has 3-4 supplements and one adventure a year. The months there aren't any FR supplements, there are Eberron supplements and vice versa. Why make fans of both settings choose to split their paycheck each month between the two settings when they can gradually take a nice chunk out of it every month. It's also easier for promotional purposes to only have to push one setting specific release a month. I feel it's probably even, if not leaning in favor of FR. FR has not had any significant product cuts and in fact out numbers Eberron in novels (and even Dragonlance I think). If FR was unprofitable, they would probably just cut the entire line (possibly replace it with one of the runner ups for that campaign setting contest from which Eberron originated) rather than continue to support it even at reduced capacity. Assuming WotC doesn't follow the "half-season/full-season" set up of television. |

| Davidw10-15-06, 10:41 AM | Maybe they're gearing up for 4E and saving their good ideas for then. |
| Issabella10-15-06, 11:10 AM | oh dear god not 4e, unless its all availible as free downloads no way i can or want to re purchas everything. I spent more then my share on the 3./3.5 shelf of gaming. |
| Wire10-15-06, 02:22 PM | WOTC may be also holding back it's yearly allotment of books for a reason it may be there's a big RSE just around the corner they wanna give us material for Their production schedule (as is evident on their Amazon pre-release info.) still looks pretty robust. Although at no point in time does WotC want to show a slow-down in their pipeline for fear that it might be construed as a prep time for 4E. Any diminishment in sales from such a tactic would be disastrous to Hasbro's high expectation of sales it has put upon WotC. When 4E comes out, it will arrive without a hitch in regards to pace of output. That's due to corporate needs, not consumer ones. :D |
| Renvale99910-17-06, 05:00 PM | Stinks having a company you don't like in charge of one you do. I wish we could get a Rep from Hasbro on here so we could be like "Yo, listen up...leave our pals at Wizards alone and stop making them put out useless stuff so you can make a profit" I'd chicken out and not tell them that but it's fun to think about:P |

Unless one is 3 years old and the other is 20. *WotC knocks on Forgotten Realms' door.* WotC: Can I come in? FR: Not now! I'm playing Neverwinters 2! WotC: Honey, your father and I want to talk to you about where you're heading in life. Hasbro (yelling from downstairs on his Lazy-Boy): AND WHEN YOU'LL GET A REAL JOB! WotC (to Hasbro): Keep your voice down! You'll wake Eberron up! FR: I've already got a job that I love: master of Toril. It fulfills me. WotC: And we're happy about that dear, but don't you think you need to expand your horizons? Hasbro (downstairs): AND MOVE INTO YOUR OWN PLACE? Eberron (wakes up): Waaaaaaaaaaa! WotC: Hasbro! FR: Thanks, Dad! You totally made me die! I hate this family! *FR stomps out.* Hasbro (as FR leaves): AND GET A HAIRCUT! |

Just because Eberron isn't popular there doesn't mean it isn't elsewhere. Or that Forgotten Realms will continue to be supported because Eberron is failing. I agree that FR is not being ignored. and that new product will be added in the Summer and Fall sessions. But that's all we can agree on. |
| johnkretzer11-02-06, 02:42 AM | I'll make a point I play both Eberron anf FRs(I know Hasbro and WotC loves me) while it might be slowing down for the FR and speeding up for Eberron it just makes sense. There is alot more in Eberron that needs attention to make it better. We got the Faiths, players Guide, Magic, Races, and some location souce book. They need to get these out fast because there are the basics. FR already has them out so it can take a slower place and smell the roses. Also on a note about marketing it is the stting neutral souces books that sell the best. |
| Zsych11-02-06, 05:37 AM | How is Eberron btw. I looked into it a little, but the ideas seemed basically boring(maybe I didn't look seriously enough). They should be working on better ways to market FR(a cartoon series would be nice :) tie in to Greyhawk and Ravenloft too... after all, there's no limit to possible quests) |
| Lord Karsus11-02-06, 09:21 AM | They should be working on better ways to market FR(a cartoon series would be nice :) tie in to Greyhawk and Ravenloft too... after all, there's no limit to possible quests) -Devil's Due comics has done graphic adaptations of the Dark Elf Trilogy, which are amazing, by the way. It sticks to the story without losing any detail, and the drawing and coloring is amazing. WotC should sign another contract with them, because a Forgotten Realms comic series would be right up my ally. It would also be a great way to explore and present more of Faerūn. A cartoon would also work, since cartons are simply animated comic books. -With the Ravenloft book being released, the idea of crossovers is easier, with RL now being in 3e. I am planning on buying it, because RL has begun to intrigue and interest me. I am sure there would be lots of ways to tie the two together. |

They should be working on better ways to market FR(a cartoon series would be nice :) tie in to Greyhawk and Ravenloft too... after all, there's no limit to possible quests) Eberron is a great world. It is filled with details and intersting ideas. Though one of the complaints about Eberron vs FR is that Eberron isn't as richly developed as the FR. Which is true but again realize Eberron has about 8 books out while FR has how many? At this point it is has developed as FR was when FR first started to come out. |
| Lord Karsus11-02-06, 10:34 AM | At this point it is has developed as FR was when FR first started to come out. -Not true. The Realms were a fully detailed world long before TSR got the license from Ed to begin publishing it as a D&D setting. |
| Cli' San Aquanova11-02-06, 11:15 AM | What with the gritty political theme and high-technology and fantasy/magic feeling to it, I would probably enjoy Eberron, I think. Very Final Fantasy. Only thing that keeps me away is that characters over level four do not exist. :P |
| johnkretzer11-02-06, 02:31 PM | -Not true. The Realms were a fully detailed world long before TSR got the license from Ed to begin publishing it as a D&D setting. One I don't know how fully develope Kieth Baker has developed Eberron at this point. Two yes Ed Greenwood as a fully developed world(really developed world) but when it was first released they didn't release all the stuff out at once. That is what I meant. |

Only thing that keeps me away is that characters over level four do not exist. :P It has a great gritty politcal aspect to it. People aren't so much he is a orc kill it, thet are more like it is a Brelander scum. So it is more about nationalism then race. The hi-tech feel is think more of it as magic replaces tech more. Though it is still for the very rich and powerful. And the extent is still open to GM interpertation and desire. The level thing is the biggest myth. One there are 18+ level NPCs running about there are just no way as common as in the FR(Not a attack it is just a difference). Two there is enough stuff out there to challenge a party from 1st to 20th. You might have to be a little more creative in your approach but it is possible. Three one of the reason there are so few high level people is the contintent just finished up a large war that killed off alot of powerful people due to it's length and lethality. This means that right now the world doesn't have a abundance of high level peope but there is nothing keeping them from sprining up as the PCs gain levels. |

| KnightErrantJR11-02-06, 06:27 PM | I looked into this for a while when I heard people getting disgruntled about the adventure/sourcebook hybrid idea, and looked back to 2nd edition. A lot of FR fans don't like the "Area X is just like Area Y on Earth, but with magic." But, in succesive years, the main products that came out for Forgotten Realms were the Horde Boxed Set, the Horde Adventure trilogy, the Maztica Boxed Set, and the Maztica adventures. I guess my point is that for long time fans of the setting, sometimes directions are taken that may not make you happy, but if they don't ruin the setting, don't sweat it. Buy what you like, don't buy what doesn't appeal to you, but definately pick up what you do like. Now, as far as the adventures that are coming out next year, Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave has Rich Baker as one of its designers, Shadowdale: The Scourging of the Land had Eric Boyd as one of the designers, and on top of those, the Expedition to UnderMountain adventure has Eric Boyd and Ed Greenwood as designers. So I'm betting, even if I'm not solid on the idea of a year of all adventure support, we have quality designers that know and love the setting that have definately delivered in the past. |

So it is more about nationalism then race. Exactly, and that sounds pretty fun. :) The hi-tech feel is think more of it as magic replaces tech more. Though it is still for the very rich and powerful. And the extent is still open to GM interpertation and desire. Ah, I see. Still, it has much more of a hi-tech feel than most (hell, all) of the WotC settings. I also like how I've been told that magic and magical items are used logically/strategically, such as Continuous Flame being used as torches in a city. But what about the airships? And I heard rumors of underwater ships. Much more magic than technological, I suppose? Again, sounds pretty fun. The level thing is the biggest myth. Also, most of my assumptions are out of ignorance, as I do not have the setting or any Eberron products, so pardon me. :) However, another problem I kinda have with Eberron is that it is a very, very small "planet," is it not? Forgotten Realms has utterly tremendous scale. Also, I've heard very odd things about the cleric/divine magic system; how it is more dependent on belief itself rather than any divine power. Any merit to that? But from what you've told me, most of my qualms would be solved with further Eberron products (repopulation, expansion, etc). Maybe I'll get the ECS from Amazon sometime in the not-too-distant-future. What are some of the races in the setting, by the way? I know about the staples such as humans, elves, and dwarves, but what about goblinoids, merfolk, and other sorts of creatures? |

This is just my opinion, but the reason it's so small is so that anyone can go anywhere. :) Seriously though, most creatures have only one homeland (Ogres, Giants, Shifters, etc.) so it makes more sense if they just travel from x-Land rather than having 3 different Ogre lands. Yep, clerical powers are based on belief. But that's only known through empirical study. Everyone who believes in a god does so genuinely. Sahuagin are features more than Merfolk, but they have their place as well. Goblins live in Darguun and have their own land a la Orcs in the Shadow Marshes. |
| Zsych11-03-06, 01:28 AM | One would think that it is exactly high level characters that would manage to avoid dying. Every one else could concievably die, but higher level characters should have power and intelligence enough to keep themselves alive... especially wizards. |

Every one else could concievably die, but higher level characters should have power and intelligence enough to keep themselves alive... especially wizards. It was a hundred + year war. The great heros died of old age(there is nothing in any book that prolongs life as far as I know) or fell in battle. The new ones where thrust in constant conflict with a high contrition rate. And like I have said there are powerful character they are just alot rarer. |

Eberron has elemental binding magic which powers the airships and underwater ships and the lightening rail(think trains), even regular ships have water or air elementals pushing it. As to the size I don't have figure but yes it is smaller then FR I believe. Though taken all together it about the same size. There is 4 continents in Eberron, only the Khovaire(the main one) and Xen'Dirk have been detailed in any way( though Sarlona is going to get it's own soucebook next year). These aren't small places imagine if the FR was broke apart by oceans instea of one large landmass. The religions of Eberron is very tricky. Do the gods exist? Don't know. The funky thing about is that the clerics can be of any aligment. So you can have a LG deity who has a LE cleric. Also there are faiths out there that completely concept driven. Also unlike the Realms worshipper's belief do not fuel the gods. As some of these religions are based on the beliefs on a real person and these NPCs don't have a divine rank. There is also no racial pantheons or atleast there isn't anymore. The standard races are there(though the sub-races are up to the GM to include for the most part, except drow). None of the creature are KOS. Thus you could play a gobliniod or orc very easy as a PC. Let me explain elves for a second then maybe you can understand the races better. There is 3 types of elves in the world. Aerenal, Valenar and Khorvair. Stat wise they are the same it just different cultures. Also there isn't really a homeland for said races that meaning you can a goblin in Sharn(the big city in the world, think waterdeep). There are counties though that is ruled by the gobliniods and a country ruled by the more monstous races such as orgers. Orcs are also the forefathers of the druidic tradition. Hey you are doing the best thing to solve ignorance asking questions. I would suggest if you could borrow a copy first (it is expensive) to see if you like it. If I could I would loan you mine. |
| BiteSizedDragonSnack11-03-06, 04:17 AM | All this talk of Eberron has me curious. Seen the books on the shelves, but they never grabbed my attention enough to look or buy. I don't know anybody who owns the book to borrow it from to read. I'll have to buy a copy. Damn you all for making me curious. :P |
