| XHereticX06-17-07, 06:09 PM | That is a question you should ask yourself, for only you have the real answer.;) In the meantime just do some research. This site has plenty of useful info http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5109, as does this one http://www.geonomicon.com/portal/. In the meantime go and read some of the Realms's books and see if you like it. It all depends on personal preference and experimentation. |
| Straploknight06-17-07, 06:11 PM | Because! - I couldn't help it really, used to love saying that when I was a kid and on the internet I cant get my [censored] beat for saying it! :D |
| Faraer06-17-07, 07:10 PM | i've been thinking about getting into Forgotten Realms , but what makes it differnt or better than just plain D&D , and why should i play it ?Playing in a detailed campaign world is a deeper, more memorable experience than playing in a flimsy quasi-setting that consists of things to fight and places to heal and buy equipment. Everything your PCs do gains a context, a believability, new meanings, and new weight. Playing in a detailed campaign world that's already been developed is better if you'd rather not do the large amount of work yourself. Playing in the Realms is good if you like the Realms. |
| Lord Karsus06-17-07, 07:19 PM | -What you should ask yourself is why you wouldn't want to set a D&D campaign in the Realms. |

| Lady_Mhaor06-17-07, 11:26 PM | Because our god of thieves name is MASK instead of that drow mumbles they try to pass of as a name |
| The Ubbergeek06-18-07, 01:23 AM | Because our god of thieves name is MASK instead of that drow mumbles they try to pass of as a name Gods are like corporations - they share market shares... ;) |
| Francius06-18-07, 12:51 PM | i've been thinking about getting into Forgotten Realms , but what makes it differnt or better than just plain D&D , and why should i play it ? In a single line: Bigger, badder, more detailed, more developped, more supported, more interesting than anything similar the human immagination has ever managed to pull out in the specific field. |
| MarkusTay6306-19-07, 02:10 PM | It really depends on what you want out of your game. If you like a world steeped in history, where every tomb and ancient ruin you explore is actually connected to some documented long-lost civilization, where every 'baddie' you fight has a back-story and tangible reasons as to why he does the things he does, and who his friends are and WHY they will get even with you for 'offing' him... then the Realms are for you. If you don't care about any of those things, and just want to get down to rolling some dice and killing stuff in some generic locale, then stick with core. |

The Realms does surpass most other campaign settings at those first two points, though. |
| Mordakay of Thay06-19-07, 07:34 PM | As always,well said,brother. |
| Leukrythus06-19-07, 08:17 PM | i've been thinking about getting into Forgotten Realms , but what makes it differnt or better than just plain D&D , and why should i play it ? Forgotten Realms is a developed "world in a box". If you don't want to create your own world, use a pre-packaged one. You also gain the benefit of discussing the D&D game world with other players outside your game. |
