| Dalimar07-07-04, 09:15 AM | Does it peeve everyone off that WotC keep making spelling mistakes and errors throughout there accessories and core books. I don't think i've read any of my books without seeing some sort of error (and my SPELLING ISN'T THE BEST EITHER. My opinion is that they spend so much $$$ on making these why dont they get it right before full publication? I'm not afraid to say I am not loaded with £££, and the books themselves in general are not cheap. e.g. to start a game the core rules would be roughly £60.00 + dice + photocoping character sheet. The point I wish to make is - If I spend £20.00 on a single book, I expect it to be correct and dont have to download errata or correct these myself(theres enough info for a GM to digest.) This really really annoys me and looks really bad, I expect mistakes in there books now!!!- Wat do U all think? |
| KingDes07-07-04, 05:45 PM | honestly i dont care. the system is set up for a group to "pitch in" and pay for the core books. I know that rarely happens, but thats the way its supposed to work. and as for the few mistakes i dont really mind. I get the point. as long as the numbers arent messed up, its cool w/ me. |

I don't care how many customers you are angering by delaying the book's release. I'd rather have a great well-edited book released one month late, than a poorly-edited book that made the deadline. |
| Cunning Linguist07-07-04, 06:37 PM | The normal typos are seldom as much a problem as a typo that makes new canon. (well, I don't know how much they are typos or not, but none the less) Things like.. *The Netherase Arcanist having such a pre-requisit that almost none of the NPC's who should have it, can get it. *None of the planes being strongly good aligned. *Phaerimm's in Ooltul don't have a HD ranking. (Casterlevel 23, or casterlevel 42? or something in between?) *Lords of Darkness telling us about the 12 princes, then just listing 10 these are things that make the rest of the world somewhat more shaky then the Morninglord of the Lathander not having skillpoint.. |
| Triton07-07-04, 09:25 PM | It's not just WotC, I read a number of best selling authors. John Grisham, Tom Clancy, .... and they all have some typos and such. The fact that I notice and am perturb is a sorce of pride for me. I am one of the worst spellers there is, but to notice the typos, syntex errors, puncuation errors, and incorrect info, is more often then not a neat quark in the story. As CL stated the problem really is canon errors. Under stating NPCs and leaving out critical info, and other annoying omitions and missteps. |
| Crust07-07-04, 10:37 PM | As an English teacher, seeing blatantly careless errors in books makes me cringe. It's one thing to see it in a student's hastily-written paper. It's another thing when a team of professionals is writing it and editing it before publication. |
| dragonheart07-08-04, 12:27 AM | Actually I agree with both CL and crash. Given that they are composing on computers not handwritting or old style typing this stuff basic misspellings and crude grammer problems should be nonexistant - that is what spellcheck and grammercheck are for! the other sorts of errors that can create new canon or the sort of bad copy that gave the Simbul some of storm's info are really somewhat harder to spot but are even more catastrophic in game terms as they force you to redo things you don't have time to redo. Its feels like they are skimping of things like proofreaders in order to boost profit and that says they don't really care about us and that is what irks me the most. THe first is a harried writer problem and the second is bad planning/budgeting not the writter's fault as its the publishing team's job to make sure these things are done probperly and completely. |

I am sorry but I just can't resist this .... have the mistakes finally gone quantum  |
