The only lore I've found on this forest is here: http://www.wizards.com/forgottenrealms/DnD_CoV_006.asp and I have no idea what this "Circle of Vehlarr" thing is all about, so I don't know if it's canon or not.

The DM has asked me, being the party druid, to come up with a reason to entice the rest of the party to go off on a hippie jaunt in this place (or Cloakwood, but I think the Wood is closer, as we're in Beregost), and I want to come up with a good reason.

My druid is a sort of savage Aztec-like warrior who worships Ubtao, has a dinosaur animal companion, and hails from Chult.

It's an official series of articles on the WotC site, so I assume it would be considered canon.

The best sources on the Wood Of Sharp Teeth would be the FRCS (each of them - 1e, 2e and 3e, though the 2e one seems most complete) and the Player's Guide To Faerun (the old 2e version). Also see Lords Of Darkness and Champions Of Valor. The Baldur's Gate game might have some stuff there as well.

The wood is populated by satyrs, dryads, treants (possibly evil), dire beasts, dragons, and hydras.

There's apparently no elves to be found there, though there's no evidence for that. There used to be an elven nation there known as Askaver, when it was known as the Glimmerwood, but all the elves up and left for Evermeet 800 years ago. Well before that, they were attacked by the mad mage Uldoon, who sent fiends after them (see Dornavver, in CoV).

There are rumours of a lost city in the depths of the forest. Presumably it is the remains of Askaver, though they haven't been explicity linked AFAIK.

Now it is the home to an evil elven baelnorn lich, who's a high-ranking (seriously, he's epic) member of the Eldreth Veluuthra, so I guess there's an EV cell there as well. He rides an old green dragon too, and lives in a crypt deep in the forest. He is mentioned in Lords Of Darkness (has the Wood of Sharp Teeth connection) and Champions Of Ruin.

The stuff about werewolves and wolfweres in that series is new, but not necessarily contradictory. I presume that the werewolves moved into the old city after the Askaver elves moved out. They might even be lythari (good elf werewolves).

Thanks for linking that article. My PCs in RoA are about to go visit the Wood of Sharp Teeth, and that gives me some more ideas.
