In the campaign I am running, the group is about to cross the Forest of Wyrms, guided by a Ranger who is allowed to live there by the Green Dragons. (He's an especially cursed lycanthrope, can be subjected to all forms of Lycanthropy, currently WereBrownBear and WereRat) and One of the older less arrogant, wise Dragons (name purpose, satchet) happens upon (not hostile) and the Ranger and Dragon talk for a bit, catching up on things when a Dragon (Dorgonan) flies overhead ladden with Treasure. Satchet complains, saying that Dorgonan is going to be the end of them, explaining that although Dorgonan is young, he is more arrogant than any of the green dragons, picking on weaker dragons, sucking up to the older more powerful dragons, and generally flying to towns to terrorize, basically being a chaotic evil green dragon when the rest in the forest are lawful evil.
He adds that Dorgonan is always flying, attacking caravans and the like, causing most of the dragon hunter attacks resulting in the death of some other Dragons. When/if the group asks about defeating Dorgonan, Satchet says he can't directly help them, but can loan some Dragon Weapons of his to them and provides the details of where Dorgonan lives, saying that it would take months to get a "legal" attack on him from the fellow dragons and most of the older, more powerful dragons currently do not concern themselves of Dorgonan.

So does this mini campaign seem sound and whole to you? Dorgonan will be tailored in power to the groups party, I'm just asking if theres anything wrong with it. Also, if the party doesn't move quickly, they'll be captured and subjected to a kind of court/dragon conclave which will depend upon their actions.

Depending on the party level vs Satchet age, I have an hard time with a Green Dragon giving a human some GreenDragonBane weapon. How can he be sure the PCs will not turn against him? And why would he helps them, when there was already many dragon hunter coming to defeat Dorgonan?

As for the ranger multi-lycanthrope, I doesn't see nothing overpowerful in it. But once again, how the PC could have confidence in him?

I think the plot sounds pretty intersting. It shows the Lawful Evil alingment and the society of the dragons. It gets into their power plays. It leaves room for all sorts of politika. Perhaps there is a female dragon that might want to use Dorgonan for her ploys, but expects him to get killed in the process. Perhaps there are things that the players might have to do for the green dragons.

The only thing that I can think of for this what to do in the meantime. Attacking a dragon is one thing, but it is one combat. The players need to be active in the area doing a few other things. Perhaps the green dragons have some lost relic they want from the ruins around there. They tell the players to get the artifact out of the ruins. The players will have to overcome all sorts of challenges to get it for them. It's an idea of what they need to do while Dorgonan becomes a bigger and bigger menace (ie, the plot simmers and develops).

Morka, for the Ranger question, he is currently helping with them in an adventure right now and the full moon is not for three weeks, so they think he is trustworthy, for now... (his alignment is currently lawful good, until he willingly transforms into rat or fails a save for unwilling transformation.)
As for the Dragon Hunters, they may be coming in to hunt Dorgonan, but often its hard to tell from one Green Dragon from another, and so because of Dorgonan's exploits, Dragon Hunters have come in the past and attacked the wrong dragons.

But thanks for the corrections, I'm thinking of rewriting it a bit, they will be asked by probably some merchants, mayor or whomever to deal with the problem as they are heading into the forest, and stumble onto a patroling Ancient Dragon, who hesitates in the attack because the Ranger is with them, and suggests that it would be better to complain to the Dragon Conclave, a meeting of the Dragons that is about to start, and are allowed to complain, much to the disdain of the younger generation, saying that it is Dorgonans personal matter, but the older dragons, recognizing that Dorgonan is a danger to all of them, assigns them a task in exchange for them not being torn to pieces. probably to the liches tower, according to the campaign handbook, or some other place, which will have an items the dragons want yet some useful dragonsbane items that are probably a single use, which upon retrieval, the group, minus ranger (lives there and can't afford to offend the dragons) and Dorgonan are pitted in a Gladiator match.

So once again, thanks for the suggestions and corrections.

Hey..I just had an idea that might add to your scenario.

What if another dragon was impersonating Satchet (say a black or even better-a red!) and is setting up all of the greens in the forest to be slayed by having the PC's find a green dragon Bane aritfact. Once it is found..the imposter seizes the weapon and begins "cleansing" the forest.

It could be a great setup for grander events for the future.

Just a thought..

True, but do black or red dragons have an ability to make them look like a green dragon?

Well, I am thinking that a dragon with the knowledge of (and maybe even the whereabouts) of a artifact would have access to spells, scrolls and even magic items that could allow them to hide their true form (and/or alignment)

You can make this story as ornate or simple as you want....it could become an entire campaign (with the PC's getting duped and then blamed and then seeking revenge on the dragon etc etc.)

I may have to use this idea for myself ;)
