| Aravilar Eveningfall07-05-03, 05:43 AM | Would a shield dwarf, battlerager wereboar be accepted by the dwarven community and how well will he adapt to normal clan life? Only example I could find was 'Totoruan of the Chondalwood' (N male shield dwarf wereboar Bbn4) of the people of the Black Blood (Lords of Darkness). A member of my campain just became inflicted; but battleragers, I percive, aren't lawfull anyway, rage alot (like boars) and eat and drink like pigs. They also ride boars into battle now and again. Would he be too confined in the halls and mines of his kin; or would he lose interest himself, perfering to be in the wild like 'Totoruan', feral and neutral. |
| Qevelias07-05-03, 07:42 AM | Well it's an interresting question you put there. Battleragers are very respected for their powers in battle , but after the battle the "normal" dwarfs aren't very liking of these savages , The battlerager is well know for his great stamina in drinking , his loudness and his horrid tast of violence. So being a wereboar would actualy make him better in all these feats , wouldn't he !?! I doubt a Dwarven king would be happy with a band of these characters amongst his people , although if he'd have a relative or a close friend within that group , I'd think he would keap some contact , be it a minimum , in case his clan needed help. If the character has spent most of his life with a dwarven clan that lived in the mountains , I would say he'll have no problem with his serounding. He'll always be a dwarf first , a boar , as you said it , can be trained and conditioned to be used by battleragers , so looking at that , there would be no problem about being confined. Every person has a personality , there for exceptions are known to exist. Hope I've been of some help |

But back to the topic, battleragers are (as listed in RoF) not to welcome in dwarven settlements, therefor my dwarf has a background where he is associated with a temple of Haela Brightaxe, Dwarven Demigodess of well, the joy of battle, etc. since their temples are often found on the outskirts of dwarven communities and are defended by elite troops (which battleragers also are), even the most lonely shrine of Haela Brightaxe is defended by minimum 12 elite soldiers and equiped with a way to seal of the entrance in case of serious problems. So I would say that should a dwarven King have any battleragers running around in his cities he would make sure there are clerics in the area with hightened hold person/monster to stop any "offensive" actions, but he might actually make the wereboar a sgt. a give him a squad of say 5 or 6 bbn's to train up to become battleragers and to infect them to gain an elite shock troop within the shocktroops. (Idea to a new regiment... ?) then the player would at some point have to leave the "army" to go adventuring again, and then his old squad becomes squad leaders for their own wearbear squads and possibly starts a coup against their king to get rid of the many laws and traditions (plot idea) and when the player then returns to his king with the item he was sent to adventure for, he finds that his former squad has taken control of the area, and the king might have escapedd and are now asking for help to regain control. |
| Selvarin07-05-03, 05:01 PM | Depends on if they know he's a wereboar. If not, no big deal. If they do, the question is whether they really know he's a wereboar or if they're led to believe he's a shapechanger but *not* a wereboar per se ("I call it a 'gift from Thard Harr'--what, you don't know of Thard Harr?"). Fact is that the character in question would likely be on the periphery of dwarven society--not an outcast, and certainly respected, but your people are probably a little awed by your abilities and fear you as well, deep down. You're like a cannon they cannot control. So, you're valued by your people but they'd prefer that you not 'go off' while in their midst. ;) |

If you look at Thibbledworf Pwent from the Salvatore novels, you'll notice that although he was respected for his prowess and, well, usefullness in battle, he was generally best kept away from beyond that because of his smelly, squeeky armor and constantly unwashed being. I think a wearboar would fit right in with the battlerager crowd...and hey, if he's in dwarf form he might fit in with all of them but in his hybrid form I'd say stick to the pack. Also, if you recall, in the battle for Mithril Hall one of the Harpels who was fighting in the underdark with the battleragers was actually a wearwolf and he tore apart that drow weaponsmaster. Thibbledworf and the others were pretty impressed with him, if I remember correctly. |
| texaskron07-06-03, 06:28 PM | Battleragers are simply Norse Berserkers with a Dwarven twist... and the Norse Berserkers were said to be channelling the powers of wolves and bears and other critters in their rages. Becoming an actual werecreature would be icing on the cake for your average Norse berserker... and probably a Battlerager as well. I doubt he'd be totally accepted by his people but other battleragers would probably hold him in awe. |

Also i recall that Pwent wasn't only impressed he was actually begging the harpell to bite him so he to could be a werewolf. i thought it was kinda funny and comical. P.S just had to add my two cents on that one |
| Selvarin07-06-03, 09:10 PM | This does beg the question, though: Would a battlerager get a normal save or a modified save (at +4) to resist a suggestion that they bathe? :D |

I gues we are taking about the Battlerager PrC from Races of Faerūn, not the Berserker from Deities and Demigods, a PrC for NON-barbarians.. |
