| argosi09-22-03, 11:39 PM | This question might have been tackled before but I couldn't find it on the board... I've been reading Icewind Dale and Silver Marches (D&D accessory book). In Icewind Dale Wulfgar is clearly of a tribe that respects Tempus as their patron god... The problem is that in Silver Marches they say that Wulfgar is from the Uthgardt tribes... Is this a contradiction or is this a twist in later novels? |
| Ashterus09-22-03, 11:43 PM | Ummmm no most Uthgardt revere their Totem Spirit, and Tempus. |
| Dargoth09-23-03, 12:19 AM | Actually the Uthgardt worship Uthgar who is their patron god |
| Ashterus09-23-03, 01:41 AM | Actually they don't. Not directly anyways. The way worship of Uthgar is set up each Tribe has a Totem spirit which they honour and worship, and in doing so worship Uthgar, a large majority of them also worship Tempus as well who's Uthgar's superior. Wulfgar just happens to worship Tempus. Nothing more to it then that. |
| Darkmore09-23-03, 09:36 AM | Tempus is much more than Uthgar's superior, he's the one that granted a divine rank to the mortal Uthgar! If you have the silver marches check out the black lion tribe, most of the cleric of the tribe (but one : patrevanni onehand) have turned their worship to the triad... the elk tribe is worshipping Auril and the Sky pony tribe is fanaticaly devoted to Tempus. Most Uthgardt will of course pay lip service to Uthgar himself but some tribes have turned their back to the old ethos and totem spirits. |
| Dr_Draco09-23-03, 01:08 PM | The barbarians of Icewind Dale are related to the Uthgart tribes. Because of their isolation in the north, they don't worship the totem spirits (Uthgar), but simply worship Tempus. :behold: Dr. D |

Well Wulfgar is clearly described as an Uthgardt barbarian, not a Reghedmen (icewindale barbarians). He was even the son of a powefull leader form the Elk tribe... he may have left before the tribe felt into Auril's domination though |
| Keldrin Moonflower09-25-03, 09:27 AM | Wulfgar and his tribe from Icewind Dale worship Tempus they are all mostly large blonde men (typical norse viking type) and the Uthgardt barbarians have mostly balck hair and darker features. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin09-25-03, 01:47 PM | Could it have to do with the fact that these books were written back around 1988-1990 (and of course, the follow-up books had to stay consistant with Wulfgar's beliefs)? I don't know this, so I'm asking: was there less information about all this back when the books were written? I know that in the forward to The Cleric Quintet CE, RAS mentions that he had to write the books (at least get the story going) back before Faiths and Avatars came out. I wonder if he had less info to work with (than there is now) when he wrote Wulfgar, as well. |
| Janor10-01-03, 06:51 AM | The Elk-Tribe of Icewind-Dale is not related to the Uthgar-Elk-Tribe. The Rhegedmen live in Icewind Dale and the Uthgar-Tribe south of the Evermoors... |
| Casual J10-01-03, 10:36 PM | Correct. This taken from the Savage Frontier's Module. "The tundra barbarians worship tribal beast totems and Tempos god of battle(their name for the war-god Tempus). Unlike the Uthgardt barbarians, the tundra barbarian shamans cannot call upon their totem's beast power." Well Wulfgar is clearly described as an Uthgardt barbarian, not a Reghedmen (icewindale barbarians). Wulfgar is a Reghedmen Barbarian not an Uthgardt |

Cant answer for RAS but I'd say definitely. You may even recall the reference to Drizzt worshiping Gwaeron Windstorm, and that later turned to Mielikki. But that’s neither here nor there. :D Originally posted by Casual J Wulfgar is a Reghedmen Barbarian not an Uthgardt Actually, in the latest book Silver Marches he is described as an Uthgardt. I know, Physically he don’t look like one, regionally he probably shouldn’t be one. I have seen him described as both, but Wulfgar is more often and most importantly, most resently been desribed as an Uthgart. |
| Casual J10-02-03, 04:28 AM | :D My bad, will have to take your word on that since I don't have the module. I was going by "The North: Guide to the Savage Frontier", where he is listed as a Reghedmen. |
| Alac Luin10-02-03, 11:51 AM | It's OK, personally I think he should be a Reghedmen. I think of him as such when I read the books. Luckily, I never (almost never) use Wizard’s NPCs, so I’ll never have to deal with this with my players.:D |
| Anguirus2310-02-03, 05:32 PM | Actually, in the latest book Silver Marches he is described as an Uthgardt A book that got nearly everything else about R.A. Salvatore's characters wrong. |
| Casual J10-02-03, 08:56 PM | So do they still list the Reghedmen as a race? I haven't got my Races book with me and I can't remember if they were in it. I know the Uthgardt have a brief write up. |
