| Ferns01-08-06, 02:58 PM | What ever happened in year 0 and why do we count from that year. What does DR means when you say e.g. 1272 dr (is it dale reckoning and if yes what does it mean?) This is what i know happened --> -1/Year of Shattered Relics * Zazessovertan's garrison is withdrawn by King Amahl II of Tethyr, leaving it abandoned. * The ruins of Ithmong's walls and buildings are moved south piece by piece to build a new capital at Shoonach. Former Clan Ithal supporters are enslaved and made to haul stone ten miles south to the new city for the next ten years. * Akkabar the Younger, eldest grandson of the syl-pasha of Calimshan, dies in a tavern brawl in Memnon that is later revealed to be a revenge assassination by vengeful Tethyrian clansmen. As the father of King Amahl II of Tethyr and the proclaimed heir of Syl-Pasha Shoon, his death brings much suffering to Tethyr. 0/Year of the Rising Flame * The treants of Semberholme complete their migration to the south of Lake Sember. 1/Year of Sunrise * The Standing Stone is raised by the elves of Cormanthyr and the Dalesmen, starting the Dalereckoning Calender. * Empire of Shoon (Iltkazar) in Calimshan. |
| Realmsrat01-08-06, 04:25 PM | * The Standing Stone is raised by the elves of Cormanthyr and the Dalesmen, starting the Dalereckoning Calender. This was a big event and people started keeping track of the years after that. D.R. stands for Dale Reckoning because that's how those in the Dales reckon things happened. |
| Dargoth01-08-06, 05:03 PM | Dale Reckoning as mentioned above begins in the Year the Standing Stone where raised. The Dale Region has chosen this date as the start date for their calender. In Faerun this is not universial other regions have different start dates for their respective calenders (Im pretty sure Cormyr for example begings its callender in 26 DR hence the current year for Cormyr is 1348 "CR") Check out "Marking the Years" on page 78 of the FRC for more info |
| Faraer01-08-06, 05:08 PM | Right -- the Dalereckoning calendar begins 1 DR, and zero and negative dates are relative to that. The pact of elves and humans at the Standing Stone is the symbolic beginning of human civilization in the Dragonreach, and hence a widespread calendar, though some sources use it over local calendars for simplicity's sake. |
| Lord Karsus01-10-06, 01:12 AM | -You might want to check this PDF out:http://candlekeep.com/downloads/grandhistory.zip -It integrates many of FR's calandars, shows what was happening where, in relation to when. Very useful, if you ask me! |
| Ferns01-10-06, 03:54 AM | thanks a lot! that really helped me understand the dale reckoning a lot more, I had some idea but wasn't sure at all. And the link is awesome, wow. I used to use another timeline calender but that sure changed now. |

| Lord Karsus01-10-06, 11:17 AM | Thank Iakhovas for putting it all together! -True. Then, we should thank Ed Greenwood for creating the Forgotten Realms. Then, we should thank TSR/WotC for financing Ed's world. Then, we should thank Gary Gygax for creating D&D. Then, we should thank J.R.R. Tolkien for creating the world of Middle-Earth, which influenced Gygax to some degree. Then, we should thank the authors of Beowulf, who have been lost in the haze of time, for writing the story, from which Tolkien relied a lot upon...I'd go on a bit more, but I have some other things to do at the moment. |
| Old Sage01-10-06, 06:59 PM | Thank Iakhovas for putting it all together!Aye... Brian deserves the complete credit for it. I'm just a humble deliverer seeking to spread his grand work! :D |
