What is your favorite published adventure? How many times have you ran it, and how did your party fair?

I am a fairly new DM and just looking for ideas on some of the published adventures.

Thanks

Do you mean realms specific or any?

If realms then Dungeons Vampires of Waterdeep series is pretty kick arse if you mean any then maybes The Shackled City adventures.

Theres just so many to choose from!

Sunless Citadel will always hold a special place in my heart as the first proper D&D I ever took part in. :)

Old Man Katan and his prancing, dancing, singing magic mushrooms!! Featured in Dungeon mag (don't know the issue - but it was easily around 10 years back) It was a fun side-trek adventure. Not hardcore, not taxing, and definatly not for hardline dungeon bashers. But it IS fun. It's err....Strange. Although it's quite a benign adventure in reality, it's the surprise/weirdness that will make you remember it for years!!

Thanks for the feedback so far.

And yes, I do you mean realms specific.

A fair amount of my 'adventuring career' was spent roaming the likes of Myth Drannor (well, I say roaming, but it's more accurate to say half the time I was hiding, the other half, running!!) and Undermountain. You can buy the PDF's of them (or get the originals from ebay - really just for the maps, and there a quite a few of them!!) which you should be able to convert over to 3.5 easily enough. Places like Drannor & Undermountain provide an endless supply of plotlines and adventures, the only real reason to leave these places is to sell your booty (No gigalo jokes please!), a change in scenery and more often than not, to res half of your party!!

Well worth the work converting, and guarenteed to keep players interested for quite some time (If you've never played in Drannor, it's hard, it's MASSIVE, and more importantly, it's full of powerful ancient relics and treasures that'll interest even the most care-free of adventurers - all for a few quid!!

As a word of advice, neither are really suitable for low levels, but you could always start the campaign somewhere far away (Calimshan) and have them level up 'en route'...

1. Desert of Desolation, the supermodule, not the earlier version modules called Pharoah, Oasis of the White Palm, and Tomb of Martek...

2. Some rpg magazine adventure "forgot which one" called, The Mud Sorcerors Tomb

3. Curse of the Azure Bonds

-Mysteries of the Moonsea, anyone? No, I guess not...;)

-Anyway, I am going to second what _SIN_ recommended: The Ruins of Myth Drannor.

Die Vecna, Die anyone? You get to go to Sigil!

What happens in Sigil, stays in Sigil.

Though that's an old 2ed one. They don't make them like that anymore=(

Also, the 1st edition Bloodstone Wars series was awesome!!!!!!

I'd have to go with the 1E adventure, "The Haunted Halls of Eveningstar." It's an excellent site based adventure and a pretty fair introduction to the lands of Cormyr as well.

I pretty much start ALL my campaigns with the Temple of Elemental Evil. I'm just so used to it I could run it with my eyes closed.

But NEVER with the same players twice.

One of these days I'm gonna' have to pick-up the newer module.

You want an "adventure" to run? The Shackled City campaign book. Hands down. I know, I know, it's not Realms specific, but my God, WHAT a campaign!?!?!

The man or woman who came up with the idea (I'd guess Erik Mona) of running these campaigns arcs in Dragon was a genius! That arc was outstanding. If you want a great story, with great content, and great, GREAT fun, I so recommend The Shackled City.

My guys did okay. A lot of deaths (67 was the final tally, I think), but I was an unforgiving DM due to the experience level of the group. But boy did they have fun going through it. And they stayed attached to the story line through the whole thing. And when I had Kazmojen (who they never got) kidnap Jenya at the end, it just kept the fun going...

Shackled City. Go buy it. It is SO worth the money.

But, if you are looking for Realm's specific, Undermountain. Undermountain, Undermountain.

Night Below, the epic adventure written by Carl Sargent, easily placed in the Realms.

Actually, this would be a great one to re-do in Dungeon; little to improve upon, but you could add some material and make it accessible to new audiences.

My favorite published adventure WAS actually redone fairly recently. It was called "The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb."

Oh, people HATE that dungeon. It's more vicious than Tomb of Horrors.

The same author also wrote an adventure called "Sleepless." which I actually, in terms of plotting and fun, may be better than Mud Sorcerer's Tomb, but Mud Sorcerer's Tomb is filled with useful plot hooks.

In Sleepless, your PC's arrive at the keep of the Archmage Draskilion only seconds after he has failed to cast a massive ritual spell, obliterating his physical body completely.

Unfortunately, Draskilion sold his soul to multiple extraplanar creatures and other beings prior to his demise. So as the PC's are entreated to aid Draskilion, unknowing that their hosts are evil, the castle begins to receive visits from, in the author's words "The Accounts Receivable Departments of these perturbed entities."

The adventure is incredibly hilarious when you run it. My players looked at me like "WHAT? You CAN'T be serious." By the time the last guy showed up, they weren't too happy.

I would say as a campaign-like adventure my favorite is 2ed "Return to the Tomb of Horrors".
It's really scary and in a real horror mood and it definitly "eats up players like candy" as someone posted elsewhere. :D

But Return to the Tempel of Elemental Evil is also a real great and very well worked out adventure for 3ed. By the way it was my first buy of 3ed products. :)

Anyway my favoured one is D&D b10 "Night's dark terror"...

"B1 Keep on the Boarderlands" will always have a special place in my heart as my first adventure.

I think "Into the Dragons Lair" is the only 3.x adventure I have run, so I guess that makes it my favorite contemporary one by definition and/or default. I loved the story, but the mechanics and editing were wretched.

RoMD and the Undermountain series were great fun... very easy to adapt to a lot of different playing styles too. Can get a little brutal at times though.

I'll second the Randal Morn trilogy. We really had a lot of fun and intrigue with that one. We were also blessed with a fantastic DM, but he really brought all the key components of a great campaign into that trilogy. Cliffhangers, near-death combats, intellectually challenging social encounters, and excellent rewards. :D

You would not like the Return to Temple of Elemental Evil. Hommlet has grown to a city of 90,000 buildings!(In Twenty years! which is how much time has past since the Original. You visit the ruins of the Moathouse(Which has some secret chamber below the old Giant Crayfish room with some Relic of Tharzidun.), Nulb is a ghost town and the Ruins of TOEE(The Temple still stands! Why did the common folk not tear down this horrible place!) yet most of the Dungeon Levels are caved in) but that is very small section The rest of the Adventure centers around a old volcano in the Lortmil? Mountains with a whole new Elemental Temple being run by Tharzidun evil servants.

I did not like it

The old 1e TOEE is my favorite!

The Ruins of Myth Drannor

Both are excellent modules that I wish were in available with 3.5 mechanics. :-(

if you are talking about forgotten realms go out and get the Bloodstone Modules they are excellent we have just started the 4th module called the Throne of Bloodstone and we just killed Zhengyi the Witch king of Vassa. Now we have to clear out his tower thats filled with a 100 or so demons. then from there go on a trip through the abyss to find orcus and steal his staff and destroy it by placing it in Tiamats' black heart. I think the 2nd mod in the series might be the best of the 4.

As for my all time favorite mods. I would have to say.... damn i dont think i can pick an all time favorite.

ok heres my top 5

Nights Dark Terror (definetly the best low level module out there)
there is awesome defense of a manor house at night against tribes of goblins can the group survive the night its a very rare mod ive only be through it twice

The Giant modules G-1,2,3: The Ultimate hacken slash modules, Hammer of thunderbolts anyone? i think ive benn through them 3 times a piece

Quest of the Heart Stone: 3 times, 2 great villians in it.

Egg of the Phoenix: 1 once a long time ago 14 years ago i think its got a holy avenger in it

Mines of Bloodstone: twice, you fight an avatar of orcus, a tarresque, and duegars are like cockroaches

For Realms specific, I liked Under Illefarn the best. A lot of low level adventures centered around Daggerford that gave players a sense of community.

Overall, I liked Temple of Elemental Evil the best.

Under Illefarn is awesome! I've ran it only once but my players loved it - actually used it to begin a campaign that lasted for a couple of years.

Undermountain is the ultimate dungeon crawl, but the Bloodstone series rocks!

I love mysteries of the Moonsea myself, albeit many people here regard it as of not much worth.

I think it's a great new format that book uses, to amalgam a regional sourcebook with an adventure module.

Im thinking about trying the City of th Spider Queen module, nobody mentioned it. Anybody played that mod?

I would have to say, The Temple of Elemental Evil. But that is because of the great group we had when we went through it.

If based off my purely DM perspective, then the Deserts of Desolation Series (yes, the 2nd edition one)

My fav 3.0+ module has to be... Heart of Nightfang Spire. It fit so well into my campaign I only had to take out the references to the lost god and the stupid key puzzle and the worshippers. Everything else I could keep intact.

Very nice.

Woo Hoo!! Man, I must've played through and around that Keep for about a year (back in 1979-ish) before I felt comfortable creating my own adventures. Still brings back great memories!
