Ok so me and a couple of friends are embarking into Faerun to play an evil campaign in which the PC's are all working for the Zhents. My DM PC is a Pally NE (Corrupter from Dragon Magazine) of bane, another is a sorcerer (neutral) and the third is a ranger NE(assassin in training) who worships shar. The ranger has selected the Harpers as his first favored enemy. Im starting the PC's out in the Moonsea region at Teshwave. Im going for a freeform campaign but one of the objectives Im having available is to help the Zhents gain control of some of the 'free' cities in the moonsea.

Honestly FR isn't a setting Im greatly familiar at, but Im the most experienced out of our group. I know the basics and have read some of the Novels, and i've read the sections about the above gods/organizations in the 3.0 FR CS, the Players Guide, Lords of Darkness, and Champions of Ruin (working on getting the Champions of Valor).

My question to you experts (and not :) ) is: how would you incorporate the Harpers in this type of setting and to what degree. Also, what type of 'other villain' would you recommend throwing at the PC's. By other villain i mean evil baddy competing against the PC's.

Thanks for any and all responses!
Edit: i apologize for misspelling Shar :)-

The other opponent could be Hillsfar. The city is a rival of Zhentil Keep.

Brining in the Harpers is rather easy. You could start with rumors of a Harper spy in Teshwave and set your PCs to root him/her out. Then, when a group of Harpers comes calling to try and save the spy, confront them or lead them into a trap.
Higher level tasks could include raiding or even razing Elventree, for example.

I actually already have something with a harper spy in teshwave but i like your point in luring other's into a trap.

A new question to go with the others: Chosen of Bane, can their be only one? If not how do you handle chosen in your campaigns (for PC's and NPC's).

Bad guy:
Currently there is a war going on between between Banites and Cyricists in the Black Network (Zhentarim). So you could give the party some problems with some other Zhents that worship Cyric.

The second the Harpers get wind of the Zhentarim trying to take over more of the Moonsea you would see a lot of them. Undercover of course trying to weed out Zhentarim control completely now that they overstepped their boundries.

I agree that Cyric would be a good enemy for these Zhents being that most worship Bane. Cyric finally sees that Moonsea would be a good starting ground for his kindgom or something and sees an apportunity to attack Banes base at the same time.

Concerning the Chosen of Bane question. Bane being the god of tyranny i would think that he would only want one chosen since his religion is a strict order. Unless Fzoul messes up BIG time then he may make someone else a chosen just so they could duke it out and whoever wins would become the chosen. Bane is Lawful Evil just because Mystra has a gazillion chosens doesn't mean everyone will. Mystra is the chaotic goddess of magic hence why all the chosens. Most gods only have one chosen because that person is head of the church.
