While trying to consider new ways to replace their appeal, I remebered something did here in Bissel. A series of first level encounters were run repeatedly through out the con whenever a table could be filled and success on these impacted the Interactive on Sunday. This had the effect of helping fill downtimes and periods when a player might not run a full mod like midnight madness slots. It also gave players the feeling that they might all be working toward one goal. I wonder if their might be room in the upcoming campaign for shorter single encounter based mods(1st level or not) that were themed and led up to a con's interactive. it would give players a short format option, give added depth to convention interactives and give conventions more of the exclusive content that many have relied upon. I still think the bulk of the new campaign should be based on mods as now but, now would be the time to consider and prepare this type of addition. It would come down to having people willing to run it but, as I saw it done one DM seemed to be serving more players than they might usually and I think more Players/DMs would be willing to stand in for this type of duty for an hour or two. By no means is this a fully developed idea but, I think it worth considering. Thoughts? Lee |

I have seen short adventures (mini-missions) used coupled with an Interactive, perhaps individual teams tackling problems before / after a BI. However, you seemed to be discussing something more independent. Do you mean....the pcs are walking down a road, and they are attacked by a band of thugs, roll the combat, here are your xp and gp? My idea here would be more along the lines of an hour or less with a standard battle and/or associated skill tests and RP. Presumably the gold/xp rewards would be on par with the amount of time spent and standard xp rates but, I could see reducing the rewards to prevent potential abuse of these mini-mods. I think they might be popular enough or they could offer their reward on the backend of things by increasing the payoff in the interactive based on performance in the associated encounters. My assumption would be that there would be a handful of battles or encounters available per given interactive. It would probably the equivalent work load of an additional mod writingwise. Probably additional work for con staff but, might be interesting work to see the reports come in and perhaps post the results. Part of the benefit would be an opportunity to put the attending campaign players in an ongoing effort through out the weekend. |
