They mentioned the capability to toggle rules on and off when making a character, so that if you had a home campaign you could modify the creator to reflect your home rules. How unbelievably cool would it be if, when you went to use the character creator, you could click on an "LFR setting," a preset of all the rules and regulations that come with the current Campaign Standard for LFR? The WIZO's over on those boards are saying that when new books come out, the character creator will be updated to reflect the new materials. Why not also do that with LFR and other RPGA campaigns? When a new Campaign Standard comes out, the LFR setting could be updated on the character creator. I think one thing that hinders newer gamers (and gamers in general) from joining RPGA campaigns is dealing with all the rules that just aren't considered in the core game (restricted feats, items, classes, races, etc.). Imagine a new player having just gotten his shiny new RPGA membership card, being able to sit down at his computer with no help and making a LFR character with very little time spent. I really hope that those in charge of Organized Play try to coordinate with the guys doing the character creator and D&DI. This could be a great tool for the RPGA. |

So you'd go to the campaign website, and download a file to load into the character generator. Turn on the newly loaded filter, and go. Heck, with online character tracking, you might be able to download custom filters based on what adventures you have played. Ideally this should work in reverse as well. So someone running a home campaign can custom tune the allowed materials on his copy of the character generator, export a filter file, and e-mail that file to any of his players. -karma |
