I was thinking about alternatives for limiting Meta-Org access. I don't like a TU cost for Meta-Orgs access because for some characters it's a huge limitation, for others it's barely a limiting factor. My cleric could belong to a dozen Meta-Orgs, my fighter has a hard time justifying one.

One option that has been floated was Non-Adventure Access Points.

Another might be Influence Points. Assume for a moment that to get into a Meta-Org you have to know somebody or be able to provide references. You can't just walk in, sign a form and join up. Want to be a member of the Platinum Paladins? You need to prove your worth first ... and you do that by gaining influence points. When you join, you "spend" the influence points. To rise in the ranks or to maintain membership ... more influence points.

As an example, the Platinum Paladins may require 10 influence points to join and another 5 influence points for every 20 adventures. After all, the PPs have a reputation to uphold and need to check up on you every once in a while.

If a PC did not earn enough influence points over the course of their adventures, they could drop out or go on a "probationary" status where their influence points could go negative until the next payment is required. If they still don't have enough influence points when the next payment is required, they get kicked out.

If tracking became too cumbersome we could just enforce joining/maintaining Meta-Orgs every 10 adventures (or 50 or whatever).

This would tie the results of your adventuring career to Meta-Org access and be another "resource" that people could gain and manage. It also is something that could be earned by characters, which I personally like better than an arbitrary number. The number of influence points earned on an average adventure and the number it would take to join or maintain membership would have to be hashed out.

All assuming that there are Meta-Orgs in LFR. :)

One option is to use TUs only for their original purpose, out of adventure activities such as meta-orgs. If they don't apply to adventures, hey apply equally to all.
