| fretrockcrusher01-23-08, 02:13 AM | why have wotc forgtten 2nd ed and left many old players in the dust, when it was the older style the created the way we play today. |
| selunatic239701-23-08, 11:31 AM | Join the forgotten players club! I play 1ED and have for a very long time.:) |
| Lord Karsus01-23-08, 01:12 PM | -What is your point? -Why did WotC stop producing 2e material? Because 3e rolled around. Would you expect Microsoft to continue producing patches/additions for Windows 98, even though we are currently in 2008? |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin01-23-08, 06:31 PM | Would you expect Microsoft to continue producing patches/additions for Windows 98, even though we are currently in 2008? Yes...:( Okay, seriously, WotC is always going to try to improve on their product. 2E is old news. 3E soon will be. But anyone who loves older rules is still free to use them.:) |
| Lord Karsus01-24-08, 12:25 AM | Yes...:( -Still running Windows '98, I take it? |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin01-24-08, 11:19 AM | -Still running Windows '98, I take it? No, I just felt like making a small (apparently not very funny) joke.;) |
| Lord Karsus01-24-08, 11:22 AM | -Oh. Consider yourself unsuccessful, then. :P |
| Ogma6901-24-08, 11:26 AM | I agree with fretrockcrusher. I think that what 4th Edition is doing is totally ruining the gaming experience. Adding on more rules, races, and classes don't necessarily make the game any better. It just makes it more complicated. What was wrong with the way 2nd Edition worked? Were concepts, such as THAC0 (to those who don't know what that means: To Hit Armor Class 0) just too hard for beginning players to understand? All it takes is an experienced player to teach the beginner how to play and that person can pass the torch along. Anyways, I think that what they're doing to the to the Realms pantheon is idiotic. The deities have been perfectly fine since they were first visualized by Ed Greenwood over 20 years ago. It's only being done for one reason and one reason only: the almighty dollar. Since Dungeons & Dragons has been sold, I think the game has been utterly ruined. I play 2nd Edition Forgotten Realms only, where my gods and goddesses still exist, and we can play the game the way we want to. How it was meant to be played. And by the way, fretrockcrusher is my DM. |

Anyways, I think that what they're doing to the to the Realms pantheon is idiotic. The deities have been perfectly fine since they were first visualized by Ed Greenwood over 20 years ago. -Too bad that he didn't create half of the deities that exist in Realmspace. It's only being done for one reason and one reason only: the almighty dollar. Since Dungeons & Dragons has been sold, I think the game has been utterly ruined. -The day that the setting was sold to WotC was the best thing that could have happened to it. Should the Realms ever no longer be in the hands of WotC, that means that never again can numerous elements that had important roles in how the setting formed- spells, monsters, concepts, places- can ever be used again. I play 2nd Edition Forgotten Realms only, where my gods and goddesses still exist, and we can play the game the way we want to. How it was meant to be played. -There's nothing in 3e or 4e that say you can't play the game how it was meant to be played- the way you want to. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin01-24-08, 12:09 PM | To play devil's advocate: All it takes is an experienced player to teach the beginner how to play and that person can pass the torch along. WotC doesn't just want to reach people who have easy access to experienced players, though. They want people to be able to pick up the game and be able to understand it on their own pretty easily, no mentor required. I honestly don't see anything wrong with that. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin01-24-08, 12:25 PM | -Oh. Consider yourself unsuccessful, then. :P Mark my words. Someday, I WILL make you laugh!:P |
| Lord Karsus01-24-08, 12:31 PM | Mark my words. Someday, I WILL make you laugh!:P -You've made me laugh plenty of times. Just...not...this...time...;) |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin01-24-08, 12:40 PM | -You've made me laugh plenty of times. Just...not...this...time...;) Well, I'm very happy to hear that nevertheless.:D |
| fretrockcrusher01-24-08, 05:14 PM | to all it may concern: we who play 2nd edtion are very proud of the fact that we still play it and i will not ever touch 3.5 or higher edtions of what use to be called ad&d. It is a shame how ad&d went from a good prouduct that people could afford and have fun with, now it was gone along the wayside and has been ruined by wotc. May 2nd ed live forever and bring back the way it should be played. |
| Lord Karsus01-24-08, 05:31 PM | -Alright, stop trolling now... |
