I just remembered that my Cleric took the Spontaneous Caster variant in Unearthed Arcana and has a really bad Spellcraft check!!

This is going to be a major problem. He has not got any Cure spells in his list. and he needs to succeed on a DC 30 spellcraft check to be able to cast via the Artifact!

Any ideas how to deal with the party not having any healing ??

Maybe I could give him some visions of possible futures where his companions have died, or he sees himself researching books about magic in a vast library, or one of the dying companions saying something to him like "dude, you're great with that sword, but you're a lousy healer" ???

Any ideas???

No Cure spells? Ummm... the only word that comes to mind would never make it past the filters... get a new cleric is my advice, or allow him to rebuild the character a little via a Miracle or something...

How come that he has no healing spells on his list? Haven't got a clue about the Anauroch - adventure and possible repercussions, but whether he gave up spontaneous casting or not, cure spells are on every cleric's spell list anyways?

Could be a favored soul or something... no idea why they wouldn't be there though unless its a UA thing. Can't say the book ever interested me much though, so couldn't really say.

The Spontaneous Caster variant in Unearthed Arcana makes the cleric a little like a Sorcerer. He has a small list of chosen spells and can cast them as often as a regular Cleric; and he can re-cast any of his Domain spells multiple times too.

Personally I don't like it but it was his choice.

Unearthed Arcana, IMO, on the whole is an excellent book.

Maybe them people should buy themselves these neat HEaling Belts from the Magic Item Compendium. Cheap and very useful.

And I agree, UA is an excellent book indeed.

Taking 1d4 Wisdom damage from each activation (assuming it's a Shadow Weave equivalent) is going to make that rather painful, otherwise they too will not function.

Be extra careful?

Maybe your DM will let you use the Reserve Points variant from UA. That should help with the healing dilemma.

Aha ... that was the Anauroch drawback then. ;)

Is the "Spontaneous Caster" variant only for Clerics, or Druids too?

It's kind of like cheating, but perhaps you can qualify for the "spontaneous healer"; it's made for druids who want to spontaneously cast the cure spells, but you could use it.

thnks. hey, i got a problem in my group.

Background of my group:
1 of my players has the DMG, MM, MM3, FB, FC2, and the Eberron books, and keeps trying to DM for everyone else, and on top of all that, he insisting that he plays a Samurai (He always ends up being specialist). Another one of my players has the monster manual and wants to be a Druid (no one else wants to be divine, so he always gets it). I have another who just can't play any other class but a fighter/barbarian. He can't roll anything else because it goes to slow ("what does this do?", and all that, and he doesn't understand how any other class functions), and hes tried the others before and he sucks at them, so he's always a fighter/barbarian. My last player, my brother, always wants to play psionic/incarnum, and ends up being arcane.

Now:
Im currently finishing Expidition to the demonweb pits, and we are about to start the Cormyr-Shadowdale-Anauroch series. What do i need to make them survive?

One non-magical means of healing that I plan on bringing into my Anauroch game is a herb called Varathar (Silver Marches pg.40). It cures 1d4 points of damage.

Drawbacks are, it only stays potent for 1d4+1 days after harvesting. It only cures 1d4 hp with a successful heal check of DC10. Each dose administered after the first each day increase the DC by +10

just get a psion (shaper) with the quintessence power. (quintessence prevents aging, withering, rusting, etc.)

Well, if you go that way you can always put a few levels in Sangehirn. I hate how limited its power list is but it can be an okay cleric.
