| Azar_of_Faerun02-12-07, 02:21 AM | Such as him or his priests being mentioned in campaigns, adventures or novels? Homemade is cool too! |
| Azar_of_Faerun02-12-07, 02:23 AM | Edit: Ah, nevermind |
| Lord Karsus02-12-07, 11:39 AM | -The protagonist of the novel Bloodwalk is a Hoarite. |
| MerrikCale02-12-07, 11:48 AM | -The protagonist of the novel Bloodwalk is a Hoarite. there's a hoarite in Lisa Smedman's Yuan-Ti trilogy |
| Azar_of_Faerun02-12-07, 10:16 PM | Are those books still in print/recent? (2000 onwards) |
| Lord Karsus02-12-07, 10:48 PM | -Bloodwalk first came into print around the second-half of 2006. I'm not sure exactly when the novels that Merrik was referencing were published, but I am 100% sure that they are fairly new as well. |
| The Simbul02-13-07, 11:21 PM | Hoar has a cult of patriarchal merchant lords in Aglarond who wish to be rid of the rule of the Simbul, as well as purge the peninsula of anything with elven blood or arcane aptitude. However they are not very prominent, and in terms of statistics the biggest threat they can pose is an opposed diplomacy check to win commoners over to their political view. |
| The_Shaman02-14-07, 09:16 AM | That was mentioned in UE, right? I think they may still have some positions in Unther, but I'm not too sure on that. AFAIK, I don't think there were any significant problems for the cult since Faiths and Pantheons... If anything, his "friendships" with various half-lunatic deities can get him in trouble, but I don't think that's happened yet. |
| Jax_Nightstalker02-26-07, 02:48 AM | Hoar is a dying god. He still has followers in Chessenta and some in Unther. But little worship has been coming his way because he sits in his realm plotting revenge against Anhur the god of war in the Mulhorandi Pantheon and is neglecting his faithful. |
| Old Sage02-26-07, 03:02 AM | There is *something* new for Hoar coming at some point. I can't say too much more at this time however. |
| Azar_of_Faerun02-26-07, 03:39 AM | :) |
| The_Shaman02-26-07, 07:15 PM | Hoar is a dying god. He still has followers in Chessenta and some in Unther. But little worship has been coming his way because he sits in his realm plotting revenge against Anhur the god of war in the Mulhorandi Pantheon and is neglecting his faithful. Considering that he relatively recently defeated another deity, I would beg to differ. Of course he's plotting all kinds of comebacks towards practically everyone who slighted him: he's a revenge maniac. Come on, it's the one deity that's on good terms (or at least so he thinks) with Kiaransalee and Shevarash :) . Besides, the interest of two elder deities in him would indicate that he's being taken seriously enough... at least to be a competent minion ;) . He's an interesting deity, definitely. I had a Hoarite character but the game stopped... I'm wondering if I can get him reinserted in another game, and whether I should retrain a few levels (monk/hexblade is not an easy combo, but I feel a bit dirty changing it to monk/ranger even though it would still fit him.) |
| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 07:41 PM | -As long as a single person on Faerūn wants revenge, for whatever, Hoar will exist. Barring another deity consuming him, of course. ;) |
| BadCatMan02-26-07, 07:55 PM | I think some powerful follower of Assuran/Hoar should take back Mourktar from the Banites, then go on to conquer Unther, kick out the Mulhorandi, and re-establish Unther as an independant state under its last surviving deity. Then move back into Chessenta and reinstate Assuran as a major opposition to Tchazzar. (I'd say conquer Chessenta, but I like the place too much.) Sweet revenge. |
| see02-26-07, 11:53 PM | See, I'd have Hoar already working with the Banites in Mourktar as they march southward with the assistance of Red Wizards-supplied magic to beat back the armies of Mulhorand and so humble the Mulhorandi God of War on the battlefield. (And I'd have them recruiting Tempurans from across the Realms in the name of showing the Anhur-worshiping armies of Mulhorand who the real God of War is.) |
| BadCatMan02-27-07, 12:33 AM | Nah, the Banites launched a coup to take over Mourktar - which used to be firmly in the grip of Hoar's clergy. Hoar telling King Theris to hold a tournament to find his successor probably wasn't such a good idea in retrospect (that's if it even was Hoar). It's uncertain who won, but it doesn't matter, as he was assassinated shortly thereafter. Given that one of the runners-up was a secretly a Thayan assassin, and Thay and the Mourktar Banites are now closely allied, well... Assuran/Hoar wouldn't be the god of revenge if he didn't want his city back from the god that stole it, now would he? :) |
| Burningspear02-27-07, 12:45 AM | Well, i not to long ago made this: http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10795912&postcount=463 hope u have use of it, as i liked making it, simply because i like Hoar, Assuran. :tie: |
| Jax_Nightstalker02-27-07, 08:54 AM | Yes Hoar did kill another god and was successful in getting his revenge against Ramman. But it got him nothing and he even lost power (i.e he was a Lesser Power now he is a Demi Power). So now Tyr and Shar are bending his ear towards their own purposes, and to make this worse for this weaken god is trying to court the goddess of ill luck. Hoar has a portfolio I like but he is to single minded for my taste and if he isn't careful he will end up being consumed by Shar or maybe even Bane. |
| Meldread02-28-07, 01:15 AM | I like Hoar, he's a good deity concept. However, I'd also be happy if Shar consumed him and began granting spells in his name (as she currently does with Ibrandul). I'm actually shocked that Shar doesn't have the Vengeance portfolio herself, because her entire existence is devoted toward getting revenge on Selune. Hoar and Shar have a lot in common. The only difference being that Shar is a far more capable deity with a far greater reach. In an ideal world, Hoar becomes Shar's newest lackey and begins to grow in power - only to later be consumed by the Lady of Loss. Shar giveth and Shar taketh away. :P |
