Are these Elven gods official Realms deities? [Archive] - Wizards Community

In the issues of Dragon Magazine #236 and #251, details on more deities of the Seldarine were given and said to have their place in Forgotten Realms (also mentioned Snow Elves existing in the far north of the Spine of the World or the High Ice possibly...now I can make good use of them from Frostburn).

I'm curious, but are these all official Realms deities or only some of them or none of them now? I think I should also post this on Richard Baker's thread, too:

Alathrien Druanna (Demigod of conjurations, rune magic, geometric magic)
Araleth Letheranil (Lesser God of Light, Twilight, and Starlight)
Darahl Firecloak (Demi/Lesser God of earth and flame phenomena, earth and fire magic, and evocation magic)
Kirith Sotheril (Lesser God of Divination and Enchantment Magic)
Melira Taralen (Lesser God of half-elven bards, elven minstrels, song writers)
Mythrian Sareth (Demigod of protection, Abjuration magic, and mythals)
Naralis Analor (Lesser God of Healing, easing of pain, death)
Tarsellis Meunniduin (Intermediate God of mountains, rivers, snow elves, wilderness)
Rellavar Danuvien (Lesser God of frost sprites [probably uldra and other cold-related fey creatures], protection from elements, ice magic)
Sarula Iliene (Lesser God of lakes, streams, nixies, and water magic)
Tethrin Veraldé (Demigod of bladesingers, swordsmanship, evocation magic)

Thanks for any info you Realms lore fans can provide. I'm trying to update my list of official Realms deities for the folks here on the forums and for my players when they choose their patron deities.

Dragon is official. They were presented before the Seldarine of FR were separate from the Seldarine of core. :)

I also need to add that I absolutely love a lot of those gods. Almost all of them in fact, and do not dislike any of them.

Demihuman Deities, published two years after "The Seldarine Revisited", doesn't mention its gods, and Chris Perry's articles don't seem to be treated as canonical in current sources. I'd ask Richard, to be sure. Chris, do you know?

Hm... Typically Dragon stuff is treated as canon. It'd be weird if in this case they weren't.

It really wouldn't bug me, though. I'd probably include them anyway in my own games (since they're only demigods).

Does anyone know if Fenmarel Mestarine is in Forgotten Realms? He is the patron god of the feral elves, like grugach, scapegoats, and isolation.

Edit: I almost forgot to add that he is a lesser power.

I agree and I know that Dragon Magazine is canon, too. I'm just wondering if the deities, any, some, or all of them were officially in the Realms Seldarine?

Dragon #236 referenced both the Realms and Greyhawk, but never stated for certain if they were members of the Realms Seldarine.

Dragon #251, however, I noticed was different. Analyzing Chris Perry's writing, I've noticed he intentionally meant for the 4 new elven deities to be members of the Realms Seldarine just by reading the descriptive text for the deities presented. I am assuming those 4 definitely deserve their place in Realms Seldarine, but I don't think any FR designer has officially said "ok" to it or if they even remember that article.

we agree. I wouldlike to see a further work on FR gods, particularly those of the other races, elves, dwarves, etc. Now that we have goliaths at least, we can include these too.

-These deities will be getting write-ups in Elves of Faerūn, and as far as I am concerned, they exist in the Realms.

Actually, I don't disagree with you there. I'm in no hurry anyway. The longer the wait, the sweeter the reward.

Elves of Faerun? What the heck is that? Is that anything like races of Faerun? I'm so excited, I thought the Grand History was the only sourcebook coming out. Finally. WoTC will put out the definitive elven sourcebook. You must very excited LK.

I've played a Cleric of Kirith Sotheril myself, and used all four of those gods (Melira Taralen, Naralis Analor and Araleth Letheranil) in my Realms games.

Regardless of what's 'official,' it's not like Mythrian Sareth can *not* be a Realms-god, since no other setting uses Mythals. :)

Then again, I don't use Sehanine Moonbow. Big phony, claiming to be Corellon's first wife (which was Araushalnee, in the Realms), claiming to be one who created the elven races from Corellon's shed blood, claiming to be be the elven goddess of magic, claming all sorts of bogus crap. I don't care how official she is. She's evil. [Mermaid-Man] EEEEVVVIIILLL! [/mermaid-man]

It's fanmade, so was A Grand History of the Realms. Who knows, maybe one day WotC recognizes our effort and makes it a book.

P.S: LK, I was thinking yesterday (when my stomachache allowed me) the creation of two new types of Hands of Karsus, the elven hand and the dark elven hand.

There is, but none of them are officially Realms deities. Heck, some of them aren't even official deities in ANY campaign setting because some of elven deities in there are brand new to 3E.

I didn't think Races of the Wild was bad. It wasn't as awesome as Races of Stone, but it wasn't as bad as, say, Cityscape or Mysteries of the Moonsea was.

I think the deities in Races of the Wild were designed for the core in mind and not FR, that's the main problem keeping them from working with the Realms. Some of them need heavy adaption (others not so much). A while back I threw around the idea of working (a massively modified) Vandria Gilmadrith into the Realms, but I was met with strong disinterest. I still have my notes somewhere. It's one of my weirder tangents.

GothicDan

06-24-07, 04:13 PM
With the presence of Corellon, Sheverash, and (Insert Bladesinger Deity's name here that I always forget), I just see Vandria as being about as redundant as you can get. Especially considering the minority of Lawful Elves, which are primarily Sun Elves, who worship Corellon almost exclusively, and followed as distant seconds by a few other members of the core Seldarine; I don't think Vandria would have enough worship.

Races of the Wild is only bad if you try to apply any of it to the Realms. The parts on Elven culture and the like are just completely nonapplicable.
