Has an initiator who uses supernatural maneuvers found a way to tap the weave and enhance his martial abilities? Or do warblade, crusaders and swordsages manipulate ki like monk's ki like abilities, some sort of pseudo-psionics or the Invisible Art. My preferrance goes to the latter. |
| Alediran06-26-07, 09:12 AM | Yes, the ki like abilities are much more adapted to what Blademagic is. |
| Zsych06-26-07, 10:20 PM | Its power source, being a matter of concern partly depends on what you plan to do with it. |
| Muddman06-30-07, 05:12 PM | Its power source, being a matter of concern partly depends on what you plan to do with it. I agree. If you want the supernatural abilities to tap the weave you could easily make the case. Since spellcasting is described as taking the threads of the weave and rearranging them as you please you could say that when you enact a supernatural maneuver you use the tip of your sword to manipulate the threads. Otherwise you could simply label it inner ki energy and call it a day, your call :) |
| BadCatMan06-30-07, 10:07 PM | I imagine it varies from martial adept to martial adept, from discipline to discipline, and from character to character. Only supernatural effects would need to be defined, extraordinary ones are just fine. Desert Wind - Weave Devoted Spirit - Divine subWeave Diamond Mind - as for Psionics, a personal Weave Shadow Hand - Shadow Weave Stone Dragon - Weave Crusaders probably follow the divine shortcut through the Weave, for all their disciplines. |
| sleyvas07-02-07, 10:45 AM | also, bear in mind that Mystra is the goddess of mysteries... not just the weave. Not all magic is weave based. Some of the blade mysteries might revolve around elemental magics that "tie into the weave, but are separate". However, I like the idea that Garagos is the master of blademagic. |
| Suin Bahhar07-26-07, 05:39 PM | Yeah, the god Garagos as the bringer or master of blademagic feels right, he could even wield the secret 10th blade and martiallore of the 10th style. Maybe Mystra has let one of her followers find the scriptures of blademagic unlocking the sublime way for several of her following. When did Garagos lose it status to Tempus? |

| xpochian07-27-07, 04:11 AM | while i agree with mad mage, i'd probably think they're along the same lines as a psion manifesting their powers, almost using an internal font of power to fuel their unique abilities. if you divide the blademagic into specific realms, such as 'weave-based', 'sub-sonic based', 'shadow-based', ect., then you get into touchy territory when it comes to things such as magic dead zones, psi dead zones, planar effects, certain spell effects, and things like that. however, i'd be interested to eventually see the article like mad mages' mention. |
| Suin Bahhar07-27-07, 10:31 AM | Overall, I've got one sentence for you folks: "Wait for the coverage on the Class Chronicles article." I just can't bring up the patience. I can't wait 5 weeks. I'm starting a new campaign and wanna implement the ToB. Maybe if the story starts out slow, but I dont want that! I want to start with bang and maybe 2 PC blademages. Hmm. So in my campaign blademagic is a form of ki-manipulation to heal and smite. Crusaders (much like psychicwarriors) use an inherent divine weave to acces their maneuvers. The healing abilities work in deadmagic zones and antimagicfields, but not in psionic dead zones. Swordsages and warblades are more of a middleground between inherent weave and Mystras weave. So some maneuvers would require minor use of the weave (the teleport maneuvers come to mind), but most rely on the weave generated from your own body, movement and stances. Dead magic zones stop only the supernatural maneuvers. Again psionic dead zones would stop most maneuvers as these dead zone drain ki energy from all living creatures. I mainly tie blademagic to psionics to give me some degree of control over their abilities might it be needed. Its nice to have some areas where even blademagic proves unusable, just like magic has antimagic protections. |
