| Grishmal09-17-07, 08:42 PM | Can anyone give me the rundown on this dead god? I know there is a little info on him in Four From Cormyr but I don't own the product. Has he ever been mentioned in any other books? |
| BadCatMan09-17-07, 08:57 PM | He's also mentioned in Demihuman Deities, which states that he was absorbed into Labelas Enoreth. "Likewise, a long forgotten aspect of Labelas, known as Chronos, Karonis, or Kronus, was worshiped centuries ago in the tiny realm of Orva, now sunk beneath the waters of the Vast Swamp of eastern Cormyr." As for Four From Cormyr, you can get it here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads By the description of Chronos / Kronus / Karonis (all three names are given) in FFC, he seems to be a Neutral god of time and maybe death. Chronos and Kronus were two separate entities back on Earth, and merged there thanks to their similar names. I don't know who Karonis is, but it's probably just a variant spelling used by one culture on Toril. My personal theory is that he was once a Jhaamdathan or Turami deity, as I suspect the latter worshipped the Titans and equivalent creatures. |
| Old Sage09-17-07, 09:40 PM | Chronos is [was] an alias of Labelas. Interestingly, I've also thought about the possibility that the Time portfolio may have ended up in the hands of Labelas... To which, Eric added:- "...depending on whether you see the human kingdom of Orva being a Netherese survivor state." Orva's status as a human kingdom is probable [see the 'Orva' details in the second paragraph of Labelas's entry], according to Eric, who said:- "I add the [probable] qualifier because I had to insert a little bit of Realmslore in Demihuman Deities in the write-up of Labelas Enoreth. (Look at the alias list.) This was to patch up the lack of a time portfolio among any human Realms god and because the only gods left to detail at the time were nonhuman gods. --Eric" |
| Old Sage09-17-07, 09:42 PM | I don't know who Karonis is, but it's probably just a variant spelling used by one culture on Toril.Labelas's entry would seem to suggest that 'Karonis' was once a variant name used in Orva. I don't immediately recall any other instances of the variant name used elsewhere in the Realmslore. |
| Grishmal09-17-07, 10:48 PM | Thanks for the info but I have a few more questions now. Can anyone tell me what page in Four From Cormyr Chronos in mentioned? Also is there more info on the Yuir gods besides whats in Demihuman Deities? Finally who were the Turami? |
| BadCatMan09-17-07, 11:07 PM | If you have search capability in your PDF reader, then you can use that. The NPC Norrin Blackgrove on page 33 is a rubbish bard from Thentia, who claims to the sole worshipper of Chronos. Other, Chronos is described on pages 78-79. There's even a picture of him. The Turami are a people lived in the lands that are now Unther and Chessenta. When the Untheric Mulan settled there following the fall of the Imaskari, the Turami migrated west into the lands of Jhaamdath, and finally settled into the nation of Turmish (Turami -> Turmish) Turami descendants are found in Unther, Chessenta, the Vilhon Reach and Turmish itself. Very little is known of them, and it's not even known which gods they had, or if they even had any. My pet theory is that, as they are precursors to Greek-style civilisations, they worshipped several of the Titans laying around the Realms (Chronos, Kronus, Typhon) and other obscure deities of similar status: Borem, Camnod, Haask, Maram. I suspect these are all powerful monstrous entities tied to certain landmarks in the area. |
| Old Sage09-17-07, 11:34 PM | Re: The Turami See Races of Faerūn, pg.109. The inhabitants of Turmish are predominately of the race known as Turami. This race was pushed out of present-day Mulhorand/Unther by the Mulan race that fled westward after the fall of Raurin and the Imaskar Empire. It is likely that the Turami were allowed to mix with the native Chondathans of Jhaamdath [but may have been a strata of second-class citizens or perhaps even slaves] until that realm's fall in -255 DR. Seizing their opportunity, the Turami finally united as a race and formed their own nation: Turmish. Re: The Yuir deities There were 10 gods in the pantheon, 5 unnamed. In addition to the Simbul [this was an ancient god of the Yuir pantheon worshipped by humans that once resided in the Yuir {the Simbul herself takes her name from this particular deity}] we know of Magnar the Bear, Relkath of the Infinite Branches [sounds from the name like he could be an aspect of Emmantiensien] merged with Rilifane Ralathil, Elekarashae, and Zandilar the Dancer who merged with Bast to become Sharess. There really isn't anything more specific about these particular deities. |
| BadCatMan09-17-07, 11:41 PM | Jhaamdathans never kept slaves. They even used to harrass Calimshan and other slaving nations over it, while agents tried to free their slaves. They invited all ex-slaves to join them, and would never return them. The Turami in Jhaamdathan were probably invited over, thanks to Untheric slaving practices. Still, they could have been second-class or socially excluded, or simply maintained their own communities with Jhaamdath. |
| MarkusTay6309-17-07, 11:59 PM | Are you saying that the Jaamdathans made the Turami ride on the back of the coach? ;) Don't forget Posiedon! :D He must have been killed by Umberlee or someone else during the ToT though, because there's no mention of him in latter material. :( There's also more on the Yuir Dities in Elves of Faerūn (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=10679181&postcount=131), better known as The Elven Netbook. At the very least, I'd say that the Turami remained a 'lesser' people [perhaps living on the fringes of Jhaamdathi society or being considered a lower caste people in the basic sense of the term] until the fall of Jhaamdath in -255 DR, which gave them the opportunity to form their own nation. |
