My wizard has come across a majic tiara, it is intellegent and gives the wearer a +4 bonus to Char., I think ir's plus 4. It also can cast enchantment spells on the wearer and others within a twenty-five foot range. So I have two questions that people may or may not be able to answer.

1. Does anyone know what this item may be or has anyone come across a simaliar item?

2. Is there anyway to contain its magical effects. In other words is there a way for my charecter to carry this thing around without worrying about being affected by it? For example if I put it in a bag of holding will it still be able to affect people within its range?

Hi,

Well I would say that this was created by the DM. If I was DM and you wanted to toss it in a bag of holding to dampen its powers then I would say that yes doing so would block its powers from affecting things outside the bag of holding. However given that it is intelligent and depending on its personality it might be a bit peeved when you pull it back out again.:D

I donīt really think that doing anything like tossing it in a bag of holding would stop those powers. First of all, I would consider the fact that the bag is a solid item with a defined form; so you can calculate the area that the tiara can cast spells based in the position of the bag. Putting it into the bag in my point of view, would not change the distance between the tiara and the target. Not even if you consider the fact that it is in another dimension or plane inside of the bag. Thatīs my opinion. :)

Greater Dispel Magic surpresses magical items, so perhaps you could desing an item (i.e. a clasp) that does likewise. Is the tiara dangerous?

1) Are we assuming this is a published item from a Forgotten Realms accessory, as opposed to a DM homebrew magic item? If that is the case, I could use a bit more information. Assuming you have not performed an analyze dweomer spell, did the DM at least give you a physical description? Is it precisely an actual "tiara" (i.e. did the DM call it a tiara), or is that a term you are using as a generic euphemism for a crown, circlet, or similar form of headgear?

Also, when the tiara "casts an enchantment spell", is it a power that is activated by the wearer, one that is activated by the sentience of the tiara itself? More precisely, is the enchantment spell one that aids the wearer, or is it one that tries to manipulate or control him or his allies.

I do have a personal suspicion as to one possible candidate as to what the magic item might be, but I don't really want to jump to conclusions just yet.

2) What is the class/level breakdown of the party, how much gold do you have on average, and what extra options do you have when it comes to acquiring equipment/services (i.e. item creation feats, mercantile background, favored in guild, etc)?

Also, in addition to a physical description of the tiara, I would also be curious to know where you acquired it, how it came into your possession, and what activities the group has been engaged in prior to and after obtaining it..

Technically the inside of a bag of holding is a seperate pocket dimension so anything placed inside will have no effect on the outside world unless it has the transdimensional metamagic feat built into it. so tossing it in a bag of holding would block it from affecting the party - but would also probably annoy the item rather thoroughly as well. Like Symbul I too have a few ideas on what it could be but without more info its impossible to make other than wild guesses. that said while there are a couple of items from lore that it could be it sounds more like it is a DM creation initially.
