What it does? (cormanthor mythal)

Now if your a canon junkie then they dont do anything with it and in 2 years the elven crusade will come mack truckin' through to reclaim there former home. But if you want something more of your own flavor dealing with a campaign, then try something dealing with the House Jaelre machinations, with maybe one of there powerful wizards tapping into the mythal to use for there own nefarious purposes. The way I see it, whatever suits your campaigns needs/purposes, thats what you should use.

What it does? (cormanthor mythal)

-The powers of Myth Drannor's mythal are discussed in Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves.

How could it be used by drow?

-Mythals are not as much "used" as much as they simply exist, and do what they do without regulation. Certain powers require being activated, but the majority of the more "visible" Minor Powers simply always are in effect.

I guess that the surface Drow face both pressure from surface dwellers and underground Drow??

-Um...Yes.

A more up to date version of Myth Drannor's Mythal (before the Last Mythal trilogy) would be given in Ruins of Myth Drannor.

-I could have sworn that Myth Drannor's Mythal is given a write-up in a 3e sourcebook. Lost Empires of Faerūn talk's about Silverymoon's "Mythal", so I have no clue as to where it might have been...Bummer.

Wasn't it the Silver Marches that talked about Silverymoon's mythal?
Fillow

The both books talk about that.

Lost Empires of Faerūn talks about Mythals, with 4 pages, and also about the wards of Sylverymoon .
Of course these wards are also described in Silver Marches

-Since I don't have Silver Marches, I don't know if the stats for the "Mythal" are the same. But, if for whatever the reason, they are not, Lost Empires of Faerūn is more recent, and thus, overrules the past lore.

True, very true. They need to retcon The Dracorage and make it the Poopy Rage. Instead of the dragonrage mythal, the poopy mythal. I hear that the elves charge 3gp for elves to use public poopy mythal, and they charge 3pp for everyone else. Dont even get me started on the prices charged for orcs. Hmm......I did take this a bit too far.:embarrass

... can't do Teshurr-mageling something about it? Sorry, I mean the Grand-Mage (not Spell-Major?) It might well be that the dracorage-mythal is not defended by an original caster(s) anymore
... The DC is IMHO not beyond 100 (yes, only three digits :embarrass) - only the central casters arcane caster level should modify it, or did I understand the epic rules not entirely?

BTW: Wasn't there a 3E-Version of Pool Of Radiance, I think there was a write-up of the current status of the mythal...

-Well, firstly, Araevin only becomes the Grand Mage of Myth Drannor, not Evermeet. Less prestige. And, that is in DR 1380, while the current timeline is at DR 1375. And secondly, Araevin, in all likelihood, has no clue about what the Dracorage Mythal was, or where it actually was.

-The DC is in Dragons of Faerūn.

To the Balafre:
Found it. Pool of Radiance - Attack on MD, p. 75+76. Not good to copy to the board, I think.

Edit: 1375 ... ok... but Araevin was the most kompetent mage of the Crusade, so I'm quite sure he's got the position of GM right after the constitution of new MD. Second: Isn't MD/Corm. much older than Evermeet, and therefore much more important in "ranking"? I would think that Ilsevere is more than a match in position to Moonflower. After all, Cormanthyr was the united nation of several really old elven nations, as memory serves me. Of course, in 1375 MD will be dependend of Evermeet in army and magic (and divine), but the nation itself is larger (more large? ;) )and older.

-Yes, and Myth Drannor is "refounded" in DR 1380. During the years between DR 1374 and DR 1380, Myth Drannor has no actual government, as far as we know, since there are still all sorts of nasties living in and around the city that need to be routed.

-No, Evermeet is much older than Cormanthyr, and Myth Drannor. Coronal Ilsevele is merely the Coronal of Myth Drannor, whereas Queen Amlauril is the Queen of All Elves. Amlauril is on a level of her own.

Of course, in 1375 MD will be dependend of Evermeet in army and magic (and divine), but the nation itself is larger (more large? ;) )and older.

-For as long as the new Myth Drannor is in existence, it will be dependent on Evermeet. Evermeet is the center (spiritually) of the Elven world.

How can there be a Cornal when he doesn't wield the Crown sword?

-In DR 1380, Ilsevele does wield the Crown Blade.

I thought these rules only applied to Myth Drannor, not to the whole Elven Court

Actually, if you read the Last Mythal trilogy, Miritar tells Queen Amluiral that he is returning and that he will not take orders from the court.

Myth Drannor does not have the age of Evermeet, but was considered the pinnacle of Elven society until its fall, because the Elven Court or major ruling council of elven society reigned there. This does not mean that the Elven court had command of Earlann or other elven realms though.

With Ilsevele wielding the Ruler's Blade she rules Cormanthor, although she does not have power that extends beyond there. The Elven Court resides in Evermeet and will not return to Faerun anytime in the near future. Each elven nation is independant if it wishes it may have a member that can petition for a position on the Council though.

Actually, if you read the Last Mythal trilogy, Miritar tells Queen Amluiral that he is returning and that he will not take orders from the court.

-Lord Miritar said that, whether or not the Queen's Council agrees or not, he would be leading an army to combat the Fey'ri army, and that after defeating them, he would found his own nation, if need be.

Myth Drannor does not have the age of Evermeet, but was considered the pinnacle of Elven society until its fall, because the Elven Court or major ruling council of elven society reigned there. This does not mean that the Elven court had command of Earlann or other elven realms though.

-The Elven Court is located within Cormanthor, but was seperate from Myth Drannor, which is a city.

With Ilsevele wielding the Ruler's Blade she rules Cormanthor, although she does not have power that extends beyond there.

-Asides for ruling Myth Drannor, she also has all of the political sway that comes with being Coronal.

The Elven Court resides in Evermeet and will not return to Faerun anytime in the near future.

-The Elven Court is in Cormanthor, not Evermeet.

@balafire: You asked for MDs' Mythal, not for EC.
Regarding EC, there are at least two in the Cormanthor (woods). The "old" and the "new".

I think - as not having the vast knowledge of an Sage ;) - that the "old" EC did not change since its description in 2E-Cormanthyr, Empire of Elves TSR 1165, p.107-110, as it is free for dl from WOTC - afaik. Its effects are transferable to 3E without much work, but as stated in LEoF, "man powerful magical defenses are still in effect" - whatever magics are meant. I don't know of any from my sources. Perhaps the threefold Karsus knows st or even old Sage ;)

The "new" EC is stated as being "not a physical place, but a gathering of...", "can convine anywhere in Cormanthyr".
Despite the Retreat, I think that one may still happen in the woods of Cormanthyr until 1374/5, as always many elves still live(d) in the woods. Imho a quite good opportunity to introduce some high-level elves as NPCs, as the new EC consists "of the Coronal, elf nobles, High Mages, druids, and what appear to be treants and dryads in quiet groves surrounding any of the settlements. When an elf refers to a ruling made by Elven Court, he abstractly refers to these assemblies." (TSR 1165, p.110). Again "imho" there should be -aside from the Coronal- at least some of each group in the assembly. So one or two High Mages and perhaps some nobles of the older houses of MD running around ;)

Ah, LK, found that one, too: Evermeet colonized after -9800DC, first Coronal of Cormanthor-woods in -8400DC by Jhyrennstar that migrates later into Cormanthor (TSR 1165, p.31/32). So Evermeet is older by 1400 years. Ok. I was wrong. Low ranks in knowledge (elven history), may be the cause ;)

The Elven Court resides in Evermeet and will not return to Faerun anytime in the near future.
-The Elven Court is in Cormanthor, not Evermeet.
Yes and no, at the time being, imho: The "new" EC may well be placed onto the ground of Evermeet with the Retreat. Or are there some sources I should buy immediately? ;)

Greetings!

With Amluiral she moved the court from Cormanthor to Evermeet, check Lost Empires, she did it 42 years ago according to Lost Empires.

According to the lore of Lost Empires, FRCS and other such accessories. Amluiral is Queen of the Court and the court has been moved to Evermeet.
The previous location still exists but most of the grand structures have been moves to Evermeet.

According to Last Mythal trilogy Islevele takes up the Ruler's Blade(which she wields as a scepter rather than a warblade) and is Coronal of Cormanthor(Myth Drannor) giving her governance over the forest and surrounding areas that are not easily contested.

No. You quite mess up different words and places.
1) In LEoF just stands that the Elven Court of Cormanthyr odered the Retreat in 1344. Nothing more. I personally would have them remained in C as a matter of fact. "the captain leaves last"...
2) The nice queen of Evermeet has of course her own court, named the Court. Every king or queen (or nation) should have at least one ;)
3) The "previous location" you mentioned can only mean the "old" EC, as I said before. Has nothing to do with point 1) or 2).

-That's alright. You will learn, young padawan. ;)

-And, Swift, a few things. Firstly, don't confuse a royal court, such as the advisary board that Queen Amlauril has, with the Elven Court, a physical location. Secondly, the Elven Court is a place, as well as a group of individuals. I was referencing the physical place within Cormanthor.
