| GreenKnight10-20-07, 03:34 PM | I wasn't sure about this, so I thought I'd come here and ask, and see if any of the more knowledgeable loremasters could help me out. Alright, let's say all the gods were to evaporate tomorrow. Pfft, they're gone. And with them went the City of the Dead, the House of the Triad, Dweomerheart, etc. With no final resting place for souls, where would the souls of the dead go? Would they just mill about the astral plane aimlessly? Would they be preyed upon by Devils and Demons? What? And another question, now that I think about it. When one of the faithful dies, their soul goes to the domain of their god. So do they spend eternity there? Do they stay that way, forever, or are some elevated to angels or into other kinds of beings? And what happens when the god dies? Does his realm dissolve? And where do all the souls go, then? I'd appreciate some help with these questions, folks. Thanks. |

In any case, I can see new powers rising in a situation like that. The second question: Some are elevated into "higher" outsiders, some merge into their deity or the plane itself. Maybe some remain petitioners for eternity. If the deity dies, maybe the divine realm just disappears, or maybe it's separated from the plane and drifts off to somewhere else... |

It seems to be part of the infrastructure of the cosmos, so even if Kelemvor and Jergal both died, I don't think it would evaporate. In that case, I think all the souls would go to the Fugue Plane and pile up. I have long thought that they tend to petrify of their own accord without a divine spark to animate them. Without anyone to collect them from the Fugue, they might turn into endless fields of statues. Assuming that all the gods died and the Fugue was destroyed, I think Ao would step in and do a major reboot or intervention. He would probably elevate some new mortals to godhood and maybe reconstruct some of the planes. Ao would sort things out. Hypothetically speaking though, if there were no Ao, no gods, and no Fugue, the souls of the dead would indeed wisp around the Astral perpetually. Some might find their way to the Ethereal plane and become ghosts. Some might wander back somehow to the Material plane and become undead of some type or other. Some might evaporate and dissipate altogether. |

Would they just mill about the astral plane aimlessly? Would they be preyed upon by Devils and Demons? What? Toril's deific control over the final fate of mortal souls is something of a unique situation. Within the multiverse at large, souls not bound to a specific patron migrate to the plane that most resembles their essence / alignment, rather than getting stuck into a wall because they didn't play by the rules of a group of gods who can enforce their will on the souls of their worshippers. If Toril's gods vanished, their deific domains would crumble and slowly be reabsorbed by the planes at large, and likely the souls of Toril's dead would migrate according to the multiversal default rather than Toril's special fugue/wall of the faithless situation. Some may be elevated to become aasimon (angels) if the deity is good aligned, while others may be turned into more unique forms of divine servitor (Lolth has her yochlols, Set has the Minions of Set, etc). Otherwise they dwell in theit patron deity's divine domain in some form defined by that god. Some of them appear as their mortal forms in an idealized way, some like the petitioners of Chronepsis appear as hourglasses littering the landscape, or books in the great library of Thoth, etc. When a god dies, multiple things may happen (and have happened). The souls may be absorbed by the dying god and perish along with it, or they might be stranded in a slowly imploding deific domain. Some of them might be claimed (or destroyed or sold) by their god's killer, or allies, or a deity who takes pity on them and espouses similar beliefs as their now dead patron, etc. It depends on the way their god died, what plane they were on, and the relationship of that god with other gods and the natives of whatever plane it had its deific domain within. |

Hmm, I wonder what will be happening with Mystra/Azuth/Velsharoon's faithfull after dwoemerhart is destroyed when Mystra is killed. |
| Suin Bahhar10-29-07, 05:25 PM | Ack. Save Dweomerharts souls! |
| Gray Richardson10-30-07, 01:22 AM | My guess is that Dweomerheart's petitioners will likely be destroyed (mostly) in the explosion. Their incarnum dissipated into the Astral Sea. Some may survive as ghosts, or spirits of some kind, maybe a caller-in-darkness, or perhaps an astral dreadnought. No doubt some weird forms of undead will result, especially those from Velsharoon's realm (I would think). Psionic creatures may also be created. All kinds of strange and unpredictable phenomena will fall out from that event. But I would bet that the majority of Dweomerheart's populace will be incinerated by the blast. |
