I was reading about Aspects from the Miniatures Handbook and the two Fiendish Codex books. I was wondering about a few things:

1. How do you build a new Aspect for a deity that doesn't have one published yet?

2. Are Aspects independant of the original deity and its avatars, and to what degree?

3. Can you add class levels or hit die to an existing Aspect to make it tougher?

4. Why would a deity use an Aspect and not an Avatar?

The idea of aspects is that of lesser beings created by these deities or fiends and sent to the Prime Material Plane as agents of the deity of origin or rewards to their cultists or worshipers.

Technically speaking, an aspect is a separate entity of the greater being from where it comes. I think it's possible for an aspect to be in the same plane as its creator but for two aspects it isn't.

Beyond from that, I don't know much more. It seems that actually, an avatar is more linked to the deity, in fact, in 2nd Edition, when a deity appeared in front of mortals, that was called an avatar. An aspects seems a very lesser and insignificant part of the deity's or fiend's power. I don't think that giving an aspect class levels is a good idea, they don't show so much independence as to being walking around and adventuring, but that's just my thought.

If you want to create new aspects, the best you can do is to compare existing aspects to the ones you want to create, using the original deities or fiends as a guideline, but I don't promise you that should be easy.

it'd be nice to get some nice lore from the writers on the differance between an aspect and an avatar. now realisticly the in game effect is to allow dms the option of having their players slay a deity should they so choose. (note: I'm not a big fan of the idea of slaying gods but some DMs do like to have the option and d&D should be all about providing DMs options, as such differnt CR versions of certin iconic objects isn't nesscarily a BAD thing)
